Yo MD, I've recently set up a new tank and opted for the LED floodlight you use on the majority of your tanks. My only concern is, they do get a bit warm. I have a lid on my tank and I've not attached the light to the underneath as I'm a bit worried it'll get to hot and maybe damage the glass. I'm just looking for your opinion, have you used any of the LED lights under any covers?

You should try out keeping wild type bettas, theyre so beautiful. There are also other species of bettas, i personally keep betta imbellis, and plan to keep alien bettas soon.

I was looking for those bio media mesh bags and they costs quite a lot when u buy lots, after searching alternatives, i found that you just use “laundry nets” and they costs way cheaper, just a tip. I live in indonesia tho idk about other countries.

sorry to say that but 16 Liters are definitly not enough for a Betta. In Austria (where i live) it is forbidden to keep fish in Tanks less than 40L to 54L. I love what you do with the aquariums and how you build them. But that´s just something that i had to say.

It’s such a beautiful tank! I was just wondering if those twigs are sharp at all? I couldn’t tell from the video and those can really hurt a betta’s fins. Even the short-finned ones. Again I loved the tank I was just a little concerned

There's nothing like watching a happy betta fish exploring his new home. So rewarding!!
I dunno... I don't see the point in having such a great variety of botanicals and not actually use all of the tannins. I don't think you would even get a decent yellow tint after boiling all of the tannins away... I think just using leaves would be a lot less wasteful than using the seed pods if you don't want an actual blackwater scape.

This is lovely, quite similar to my set up for my female koi betta. Re male bettas and other fish - any crowntail or similar is safe to house with other species. They can't swim fast enough to threaten anything! I'm more careful with Plakat, those guys can move!

MD I have a quick question. How do you remove the glued down plants from the logs/pebbles when you have decided to change a tank. Love your videos, keep up the great content.
Superglue usually "snaps" off. Usually with a bit of gentle pulling and prying with my fingernails I can clean everything up. Anything that stays stuck I scrape off with a spoon

I have a 300 liter blackwater tank with 10 molliea, 15 neon tetras, a couple of loaches, and two corys. I still want some large wigglers.

This might be a stupid question but here goes: this is precisely the type of hybrid blackwater betta tank I want to build, but I need to heat it. Without a filter, how would I create enough flow to move the heated water around sufficiently? Especially for the swirly slow-moving betta, I’d love to have no filter flow at all. Could it be heated with a heating pad/mat on most of the back surface of the tank (with a temp probe and controller setup to regulate)? I want to limo black film the back of the tank anyway so it would be totally hidden.

The wild betta hobby poorly manages their wild species, a lot of wild species are hybrids.
They should be a lot like the corydora and the pleco hobby, they respect the localities and species and they are careful to manage it.
Edit: I realize that this is a wild betta biotope, and that you don’t have a wild betta. You need a lid for wild bettas unless the water line is very far away from the rim.

Question #2. When boiling botanicals, will that work on leaves that I can find on the ground locally?
I’ve seen a good few of your videos now, what I like most is your consistency. Every set-up has the same good foundation and then you modify from there. I’ve never kept fish before but this makes me think I can have a go as long as I make sure the basics are all in place and I keep on top of water testing.
If I have a tank 30l like this with a filter and say 5 anubias, and use liquid fert, do you think they'll grow fine? I don't want to use aquasoil or root tabs unless I have to!
i made a smaller black water tank to keep a beta in but i cant get the water to not be clowdy
everything else seems great, plants growing, soil substrate and sand, sand was rinsed, lots of plants and a piece of wood, everything looks great and seems to be thriving but the water is just a little cloudy all the time,
it looks barely haze from the front but when you look through the side you can see how cloudy it is
any tips ? i even did a water change to no avail, im just worried about using any type of pet store product would harm the plants

Do you not have an issue with the api tabs in your shrimp tanks? I've avoided them since they have iron in them which I worry will kill my shrimp.

I used used builders sand (you need to wash it multiple times) an old dead tree branch (you need to weigh it down) and then Google house plants that can grow submurged. My tank looks so natural, like an Amazon jungle and it was almost nothing. My beta loves it. I wish u guys could see
