    Is this Laowa 10mm f/2 Zero-D the micro four thirds lens you have been waiting for? Or is there any other micro four thirds you really want to see?

    Thanks for that. Found out about it on Camera Conspiracies but figured a few second opinions would be worthwhile. I don't think the vignetting or flare will bother me. I want a bright wide lens for indoor use, mostly. I have the 7.5mm below and Leica 15mm above and may also get the Olympus 12mm f2 at some point for the AF, but this will be on its way in a couple of days once my CC rolls over as I already blew out my budget this month :-D Olympus only if it goes on a heavy special at some point. :-)

    Very interesting lens. 46mm filter thread matches the Laowa 7.5mm, the Pana 20mm and the Pana 14mm, I already own. Since all my GH5 presets are set to 7.5mm it is very important that the camera get the focal length automatically because it would be a pain to change this all the time.

    Great review. Looks like the perfect vlog lens. Any ideas how it would perform on a Nikon Z mount with an adapter, and whether the aperture can be controlled without a smart connection. May be fun to test it on the Z50 or the new Z6ii 4k 60FPS with APSC crop

      Hey Barry haven't try it on a z but seeing this is an electronically controlled lens, and not sure if there is any electronic m43 to z adaptor in the market, it probably isn't the best lens for such kind of cross mount usage

    I wish for manual only focus and f2 lens they had more suitable for manual focus without EVF (a.k.a. scale focusing) focusing scale. Not just infinity and next to it 1 meter. Good manual focus scale usually have 3 meters as well. It allows to focus manually without looking in EVF or at focus scale.

    Thanks, Richard, for the review. Owning the Laowa 7.5mm for my Panasonic G9, I'm checking with you if the sharpness of the two lens is similar. Also, having been inquiring about the Olympus 12mm f2 as a potential buy and just discovering this 10mm, I would like your assessment of the 10mm, if it is a good substitute for low light street photography over the Oly 12mm. Both carry a small form factor, but the Oly is quite a bit more expensive. Thank you.

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's been a while since i last used the Laowa 7.5mm but I believe the 10mm should be quite similar in terms of sharpness. Can't really comment on the Olympus 12 f/2 as I have not got much experience with that lens sorry. but for street photography, I feel the Laowa should be more than good enough as long as you ok with manual focus.

      @@MichaelGerrard I can understand your point. But think about it, if you're going to acquire a lot of fast glass between 10-25mm, you're actually saving up space in your bag and roughly the same price as having different focal lengths of similar opening of the aperture at f1.7. And depending on the user, I personally have no problem carrying around a ~700g lens around with me for hours. I walk around with the PL100-400 for hours no problem.

    @richard, i ran into problems with this Laowa 10mm using BMPCC4k. If i take videos or pictures from >2 ft, i can't focus sharp (it's not just soft in the center, but blurry). I tested it with Lumix GH5 with no issue, using similar settings (ISO 1600, f2), and also using each permutated aperture setting. I reported to Laowa support with test videos (th-cam.com/video/Fhfj4AZYwIM/w-d-xo.html) as proof. They don't think it's their lens issue, but it's with BMPCC4K.
    If I use this lens for close-up, either indoors or outdoors videos / photos, or < 2 ft distance, i can get sharp and focused results.
    Do you encounter a similar sharpness issue? thanks

    • @TrepidJon
      @TrepidJon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also have had issues with lenses not focusing properly on the BMPCC4K, and it has something to do with the sensor thickness being different from most other m43 cameras, which is also why metabones made a different speed booster specifically for the pocket 4K. Something about the distance of the sensor to the lens glass, the flange focal distance being different. Or something along those lines. I have a few lenses that just couldn’t focus on the BMPCC4K but focus fine on my lumix micro four thirds cameras.
