    Thanks for the review. I use the EM1 mark ii and love it, my problem is I purchased the 14-40 pro when I got it and it's such a good lens that I have a really hard time purchasing any lens in that focal range. But the 10mm here is tempting but then there is the Zuiko 17mm what a dilemma..

    @peter, i ran into problems with this Laowa 10mm using BMPCC4k. If i take videos or pictures from >2 ft, i can't focus sharp (it's not just soft in the center, but blurry). I tested it with Lumix GH5 with no issue, using similar settings (ISO 1600, f2), and also using each permutated aperture setting. I reported to Laowa support with test videos (@ as proof. They don't think it's their lens issue, but it's with BMPCC4K.
    If I use this lens for close-up, either indoors or outdoors videos / photos, or < 2 ft distance, i can get sharp and focused results.
    Do you encounter a similar sharpness issue? thanks

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not have any problems with the sharpness. I have heard that some has had a problem with the focusing. Unfortunately I cannot say anything about BMPCC4K.

  • @loft4me
    @loft4me 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Peter, from your assessment, how would you compare the sharpness wide open to the Olympus 12mm f2? I have a need for a low light street photography lens, which would mostly be used wide open. Having to stop down on the less expensive Laowa would be contrary to my specific need, and I would be better off with the more expensive Olympus 12mm (if it is sharper wide open). Thank you.

    • @ForsgardPeter

    Apart from the two steps difference in aperture, do you think the Laowa outperforms the Zuiko 9-18 in image quality?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is hard to say for sure. It is a long time since I tested the 9-18mm. Laowa is a good value for money, but you need to stop it down to get the best results. Then it is also MF and a prime. Quite different lens.

    Interesting lens indeed. Love your sample shots, nice reflections! Did not catch - is it weather sealed lens? I checked Laowa's web site and they do not specify. If not - it's Ok, I understand but still consider it as very important feature to match quality of Olympus cameras.

  • @claudius8002
    @claudius8002 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really hope they've improved the quality standards. I have the Laowa 7.5mm f2 and you can't trust the markings on the lens. So I prefer the focus magnification, you can't rely on the focus peaking and it's not true that you set the focus once and the ring will stay in the same place from there on. I kept reading this advice when researching the Laowa, but now I can speak from personal experience. It's quite fiddly and slow having a MF lens, but it's fun and the UWA makes the perspective unique

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Distance markings on the lens are always a bit inaccurate. I did bot find any troubles with focus peaking.
