The beet chips are easy to make. Peal them first. Then use a medallion slicer to make thin slices about an eighth inch or thinner sliced. Lay them out on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little olive oil and bake at 375-400 degrees. After about 10 minutes turn them over and continue baking until crisp. Be careful as they can burn easily. I like eating them pretty much right out of the oven. You might want to let them cool a little. Let me know if you get a chance to try it. Have a great day!

@@PlantSmartLivingNOW I'm from PA, and helped with my parents garden growing up. I live in Los Angeles now and this is my first year with a garden. I have 7, 5 gallon buckets; all organic. I make my own compost and fertilizer; (2 separate 5 gallon buckets.) I'm about to harvest my beets. It's relaxing and encouraging to see everything grow over night. I'm glad I found your channel. What a beautiful harvest of beets! One of my favorite vegetables I attempted growing them in my veggie pod this year. I don’t know whether I ruined them or not but they were definitely overcrowded so today, after having sowed them a month ago, I cut back the leaves and replanted them further apart. My daughter told me that I just ruined my whole crop but I hope not! I’ve got more seeds so I’m going to market on the calendar today and plant another crop. Since it’s the end of July and I’m here in Virginia, we don’t get a frost until November so I think it should be fine. I just have to not cut the leaves off. 🙄🤭 first time gardener still learning!

I don't eat things directly in our yard even though we don't use any bad chemicals. There could still be soil, dust and air pollution on the plants so we wash them first before eating

I just don’t get it. I purchased burpee Detroit seeds and planted them in July and checked them today thinking they’d be a good size. All I got are tiny little nubs. What am I doing wrong?? I love beets and was really looking forward to getting some of my favorite vegetable.

I cut 1 from each plant when I want a sammich. It's taste is in between lettuce and spinach. Very delicious!!! The best time to cut the leaves off is in the morning or very late afternoon but even in the middle of the day they still taste amazing. I just started my own Detroit dark red beets this year from seeds and they are flourishing! Once I know they are ready for harvest I'll be sure to get as many leaves as possible for sammiches and shakes.
