  • What lens should you buy? I asked the same questions when I wasn't quite sure on where to invest my money. There are so many lens choices and variations that it can be pretty overwhelming!

    I shoot Canon, so I am using Canon lenses as an example for this video because I know them the best. By no means do YOU have to buy canon and I'm not telling you that THESE ARE THE ONES TO HAVE! I am, however, talking about the focal lengths, F stop, and overall use of lenses and what I think 3 questions are you can ask yourself to narrow down your options. So, What lens should you buy? Watch now! Links below from lenses mentioned in video.

      Quick question!
      What would you prefer between a 70-200 f2.8 with a x1.4 extender and a 70-300 f4. Both intended to use for wildlife photography. Do you think the extender compromises the sharpness, focus and quality of the image? I have never used an extender so I’m not sure how good this might work.

    The first lens I put money on is the 50mm 1.8f Prime Lens by Canon for my T6.
    I love this lens because not only does it shot beautiful shots for portraits and close ups, it’s limitations really stood out to me as my preferred style of shooting. I wanted wider shots.
    So the next lens I got was the 24mm Prime Lens, I get nice wider shots and now I get to shoot my subject in their environment with an 2.8f. So I lose a whole level of f-stop but it opened up a whole different genre of photography for me.
    I also recommend to look for used lenses so that you save yourself a couple of bucks, with hopefully little wear to them. Just my experience which hopefully helps another beginner photographer.

    This video actually taught me a lot and I want to thank you for that! I love photography but I've basically taught myself and some of the things you say in your videos sounds like another language but slowly but surely I will understand more and more about the technology and language of photography. I shoot with a Nikon D3200 and I feel as though I've captured some awesome photos with it but I got that camera not knowing shit about photography but at this point in my life I am looking into buying a Sony a7s ii or a Canon of some sort

      Nikon body. For budget photographers Nikon gives more features in cheap crop sensor DSLRs, better build quality and much better sensors. I have over 55,000 shots on my D3300 including sports, portraits, northern lights, the milky way, scenery, etc... It also takes great video (1080p 60FPS). Many 3rd party lens manufactures such as Tamron, Tokina, Sigma, Rokinon etc... make good lenses (sometimes better than Canon and Nikon) at much lower prices.

    All my professional photo and video needs have been met for the last few years using just the Sigma 35mm f1.4 art lens, the Canon 85mm f1.8 USM lens, and occasionally renting the 14mm, the 16-35mm f2.8 L ii and 70-200mm 2.8 L ii if the job requires it. That being said, with the shift towards Sony for video work, I do find myself looking at the plethora of lenses on the market once again, wishing I was 10 grand richer. Damn you, 4K!

      I had the Sigma 35 f/1.4 Art but since I'm on APS-C I replaced it with the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 Art to save me switching lenses, and haven't missed it since. As incredible as the 35 Art was, the 18-35 is just as sharp and the bokeh is a lot better.

    Great video man. I certainly learned a lot and now have a lot more to think about and learn. Why is it that when you're looking to learn about something, that it just raises more questions and things to consider? I am just starting off in photography and film making and your videos are helping tremendously. Thanks again!!

    BAZOOKA LENS FOR THE WIN!
    This was beyond useful information. So to be clear, 24-70 mm is like a sweet spot? Someone correct me if I am wrong...

      @kskave7925 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Levette yea, always depends tho. I use a 12-40 mm f2.8 for most of my stuff but 24-70 is also a very good range

    Love this video man! Really helped me learn about different kinds of lenses for different types of situations. I do have one comment. I think you should have made a 2 separate videos. One about pictures and one about video taking. It was a little hard keeping up with your explanation.

    heya Peter, first of all i love your content. it's awesome. I have a question though. I'm an amateur Photographer, it' s the best hobby there is butt sometimes i just don't have any inspiration. Could you make a video about how, where and when you get inspiration for your photos what do you do when you don't know what to make or do! I would love to see that. thanks very much and keep up the good work !!!

    • @LouisKellner
      @LouisKellner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you want inspiration for pictures, go on google and type in movie poster. If youre searching for inspiration for some videos, go on youtube and search for people like casey neistat, sam kolder, or me ;D (just kidding). There are so many ways to get more inspiration, i mean you have the internet Bas.. let me know if it helped you :)

    My favorite lens has to be the 24-70 becuase it just never leaves my camera. I do second the 70-200 because I shoot a lot of sports and wildlife when I am not shooting portraits. These two lenses are just a great way to cover pretty much everything.

      @rob ---lens whacking is when you put your favourite lens in a sock and swing it at people hoping to score a direct hit.It is a little known international sport.I wonder if Henrys cameras could give us some insight on which is the best sock to use as there are so many colours amd materials available,the choice for beginners to this sport is bewildering.Thank you.
