    With all the complications that come with an entry level camera such as noise in lower ISO levels I bought this lense on your advice. I can say that it totally upgraded the level of quality of my photos with my m50 mark ii. I use it for everything. Landscape, street photography, portraits and even macro (when you get the focus plain right). I take pictures of flowers and I can say it is really sharp and very worth it. Even if you have to crop the picture in post-prod you will still get amazing results. Its totally worth the price even tho some might get scared of paying almost the same price as the m50 mark ii with the kit lens. This lense is very versatile and I love it. Thank you for your amazing advices and videos.

    Great video as always!
    Would you consider making a video comparing the Canon 22mm f2.0 to the Viltrox 23mm f1.4? Besides the obvious aperture difference, how does the quality compare between the 2 lenses? How much more of a pain is the size of the Viltrox vs. the tiny 22mm? Video vs photo?
    Thanks again!

    Definitely getting this lens. I've got the 22mm Canon f2, its great. Video wise, the 32mm would be perfect for music video shoots- close ups of artist, beautifully filmed. With a gimbal, a M50 + 32mm and the 22mm would be incredibly light and a joy to film with. I also got the Crane v2 gimbal. I'm going to film my own music video with the combo. Can't wait.

    Another insightful video. Thanks for your continuing support and advice on the Canon ef-m mount. I like how you find some of these details that are not so commonly known or advertised about a lens. Including this 32. I have the Sigma 30 but have always had an eye out for this Canon made lens that has had such great reviews in the past but where it is more pricy than the Sigma. I don’t think I will trade my Sigma in just yet but if I see a deal. Maybe. I am hoping to stick with my M6Mii for as long as possible. For the price, this camera still competes so well in the market IMO. Your other lens recommendations like for the Samyang 12mm f2 were spot on. I look forward to anymore videos on this topic of efm and relevant camera accessories! I don’t feel like I have been left behind when I watch your content. I have my eye on the Viltrox 23mm.

    Agree with everything you said. This IS the perfect lens for anything in the standard range, though the feeling from 22mm focal length is super appropriate for casual, family outing kind of shots in my opinion. The images from the 32mm just feel a bit more formal than the 22mm.
    Lens hood is an absolute must... the one weakness of this lens is loss of contrast from flaring. Not the worst, but not the best.
    It does give some super dreamy video quality imo, but for some reason the 22mm focal length just feels right for video, and the canon 22mm is just fantastic for this.

    I just picked this lense up. And the manual focusing seems off to me. It feels laggy or delayed which causes me to focus past the subject and then over correct. Did you find this to be an issue on yours? I'm wondering if I have a faulty unit. I thought it might be a down side of the STM but my kit lense is also STM and the the manually focusing on that is perfectly fine.

    I really like the 32mm f/1.4 on the M6 II however, I don't find myself using it much. I was watching a video of a different lens once and the photographer said "This is a great lens but not a focal length I shoot" and at the time I didn't understand what he meant. Now I do. When I'm doing street photography I need something in the 15--18mm range because I want buildings. In some cases I can get the 22mm to work if I'm in more wide open spaces. If I'm taking photos of people I like the 56mm f/1.4. If I'm needing a longer focal length I go with the 18-150.
    So what do I do with the 32mm? I don't know. It's the most expensive lens I own on EF-M, it's fantastically built, the results are awesome and yet I rarely ever use it. I guess "this is not a focal length I shoot". I need to take the 32mm out and force myself to take photos it's good at and then make a decision.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I would do just that, force yourself to use it. If it tuns out to just not be your focal length, then sell it and get something you will use.

      The other day I was shooting at a local race track and this lens came to life when I was wondering between the garages shooting all the competitors cars. The images were so vivid and phenomenal.
      I've got quite a few EF-M and EF lenses but hardly use the 32mm but I will start using it more.

    Played with this lens for a week, and it's just great.
    On my old DSLR my fav lens was also a 30mm f/1.4, this 32mm completely blows that lens out of the water in terms of image quality.
    And on the little M50? Real easy tucking in my bag, going out of the house, taking some photos in all kinds of natural lighting, and I can really play around and get creative with it.
    I'm also able to shoot fairly stable with it hand held with digital stabilization turned on, and since I get highlights, the focus ring for doing manual focus pulls is actually quite nice too.
    It's precise, very small movements required. With a little bit of practise I could place focus pretty much exactly where I wanted, and it has a pleasing look/transition speed.
    Awesome for photography and shooting b-roll.
    It's very audible on camera microphones though, but I only use those for sync anyway.
    I'd love to have weather sealing, but I don't want that enough to sacrifice the compact size/weight of this package.

    • @markwiemels

      It's a very noisy lens. I thought mine was broken and was getting ready to send it back when I decided to find other people with copies I could play with. Come to find out it's normal. I had to turn off servo because the zzz zzz zzz drove me crazy. It doesn't bother me as much as it originally did but my other Canon lenses are silent as are my Sigma lenses. Maybe they chose focusing speed over silence?

    • @AnalogMonoxide
      @AnalogMonoxide ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrantMcWilliams My guess is that the plastic body makes it light, and cheaper to produce, but will be very resonant, no matter how silent you make the actual motor.
      If they wanted to make it actually silent, they'd probably increase both price and weight/bulk to the point where they put themselves in a different segment, and/or start cannibalize their other products.
      I'm not particularly bothered by it, I just switch it to manual a lot. But it's something to be aware of, especially in regards to video.

      I think when you look at price and size to performance, the EF-M cameras are still hard to beat. The new R10 and R7 just have tweaked sensors out of the M50 and M6 II and they are more than double the price. Someone buying an EF-M camera and lenses now, could happily use them for the next 10 years and capture some great images. Now if price and size did not matter, I would go RF or Sony Full frame.

      please try the Laowa 9mmf2.8, this lens is super good for sstro photography. because based on NPF, 32f14 should less than 4.5s, while 9f28 can reach 22s

      Fujifilm makes much more sense for APS-C IMO. If I had started with Fuji I would probably still be using APS-C. However I started with an M50. I had the kit lens, the 22mm f/2, the 28mm Macro and the 55-200mm. I ended up switching to Sony full frame because I felt the EF-M mount was holding me back from my full potential as a photographer.
      Now I regret selling it a little though, because I want a pocket camera and the M50 with the 22mm f/2 was a nice little portable setup.

    Such an amazing lens. Clinically sharp throughout the image and beautiful bokeh. Reminds me of the Olympus 45mm prime lens being so sharp and small for what it is. On the M200 it's so unbalanced though! And sharpness isn't everything to me, so I sold it :(
