    Here in Australia Zebra finches budgies ( parakeets) and cockatiels are native and they often follow each other in the wild in response to rain so the three are the ultimate trio they have evolved to be in each other’s company are indeed all very much flock birds.

    I agree with everything you said about finches and parkeets. I own both and finches are messes bird I have ever owned. I one have one negative I think mirror are cruel and you can have just one parakeet, but you need to interact with it often. I had one parakeet for 3 years and just now bought a second, they get along great but my first parkeet ignores me more now.

    • @BLeesPets
      @BLeesPets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I agree you need to interact with your bird if you have just one. They will bond with you. But having 2 does lessen that bond. Just keep interacting with them🤓The mirror, both of my birds love it. But I daily interact with both birds. They are my pets, I love them🤓Thnx so much for stopping by.🤓🐦🐦

    Ok. I commented in the last video of yours I saw. I'll say this: You need to have different branches for your birds or they''ll get bumblefoot. And put some more amusements in there. Imagine yourself living in the boring cage.

    • @BLeesPets
      @BLeesPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thnx for you comment. But there was 5 different toys in there. I also change out there toys so they don't get bored. I believe it's also good to leave a little room for the birds to fly to exercise as they would naturally do. To many toys are not good either. Imagine yourself living in clutter and not being able to fly. Branches I agree. They are in a different cage now with smaller branches.

    I suck as a Zebra mom. No matter what, I give them huge flight cages, pair females together, they still try to mate with each other and rip their own and each other's feathers out half the time.

    • @BLeesPets
      @BLeesPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aww I'm sure you are a good Finch mom. Well either try a female and male together and if you don't want baby chicks then just take the eggs out when you see them. You may find them happier. Or get a parakeet/bungie : )

    Very good video ❤️. I 100% agree...I don’t have any budgies anymore but I had them for years growing up....now I own 3 owl finches and they are my first finches....(I also have a ring neck dove too 😝). My finches are beautiful but yah I call them my chickens lol because they do not really care for people 😝. But they are sweet, and I love their noises they make...they don’t play but they do love mirrors and toys that have things they can rip off for nesting...but I don’t see any of them stepping up on my finger anytime soon....my dove though...she’s great...she loves me and loves being around humans! Just like a budgie ☺️. But a tad bigger 🤓

    Watching this & other videos of yours for 2nd time. We can all laugh as I'm going back & forth on which to get still. Debating for weeks. I don't expect to be traveling by RV though you guys seem to be having fun. I ordered a large flight cage online which could house 2 of either. I love the song of the finches, do enjoy the wild ones outside. Am learning towards 2 male parakeets. Now making sure they're males will be interesting. I've watched Love of Pets & she's shown a couple of babies. The male seems to have pink cere and female light blue with tiny white spots near nares. Well, so long as they're both the same sex. Hope I'm not disappointed in cage I ordered online. Now making a list of supplies, type toys & food. Thank you for sharing your videos. 💕

      Oh nice. Yeah, I had 2 parakeets. I didn't know the that the females are dominating and my poor Louie was being squawked at constantly. So I had to rehome Holly. I'm now thinking on getting another male Parakeet. The males do have a blue ridge beak. Females have no color or a slight pink. But now on the other hand. Female Finches are quieter. Am rewatching your videos & pretty much decided on parakeet then add another. I love watching & listening to finches so maybe a few years down the road. I'll have to see what the cage I ordered online is really like. It says 46×35.5×18. If it works I'll set it up, get supplies, feed, and off to find a male parakeet .
      Am sure Holly is happy & more peace in your bird haven. I only have 1 dog now ( my little girl died after surgery almost a yr ago) he's a tall boy so we'll see the interaction. He's a retired racing greyhound and perfect for me. I adopted him about 3 1/2 yrs ago & gets along with cats outside & animals at the vet, doesn't chase the birds or rabbits outside. He's a total couch potato but will be curious. Seems fine walking around the pet store . You seem to have ot down with your feathered friends & fur babies.

    I definitely agree with everything you said about finches vs parakeets. I had zebra finches and a parakeet years ago. The zebra finches were a lot more work because they are 10 times messier. The seeds and hulls would be everywhere! So were their droppings- On the floor, on the wall, in the cage. Every morning when I got up, my day began with cleaning up the finch mess- Vaccuming and washing the wall. The parakeet, on the other hand, the mess would not be even half of what the finches made and stayed in the cage. Zebras also sound like a cross between a kazoo and a game show buzzer. Society finches and Gouldian finches have a much better "voice". Canaries of course are finches but I haven't had any and honestly they seem like a species onto itself with different voices in the singers and even the type and color varieties, so I won't mention them.
    I love the parakeets and probably would have chosen the Society finch or Gouldian if they had been available at the time where I had been living, just for comparison.

      Parakeets are really easier. They be a little loud at times but they seem to be a little more cleaner then finches. Finches throw their food out more and they poop more. They also seem to eat more. Parakeets like to play more with their toys. So if you get a parakeet make sure they have at least 2 or 3 toys in the cage. Make sure that you make room for them to exercise their wings. Leave space between toys. As I put their toys on both ends of the cage. Hope this helps : )

      If you get two males they’re good companions for eachother without all of the insane hormones, or without having to worry about removing eggs. This goes for both finches and budgies. I have a male and a female budgie and I regret it. The male chased the female around all day trying to mate with her, and he acts crazy aggressive as a result

    I love both but budgies are way more messy . My fist bird was a society finch he was tame and he lived ten years . Best bird I've ever had, both are equally great and both cheap in my opinion. Finches sell for 20/24 dollars and budgies 20/24 also where I live sometimes I can get them for 19 dollars depending where u go. My finch was very easy to tame he was basically tame and not scared of me from the day I got him..I was 12 when I got him and I bought him from Walmart years ago when they sold birds he died when I was 22 . Aww so nice it lived for 10 years. I wonder if the Society finch are easier to tame then Zebra Finches. Cause all the zebra finches I've own I could never tame. I did all the right things to tame them. They weren't afraid of me but just could never get them on my finger. I've been thinking about getting a couple of Society Finches. I no longer have the others. Anyway, thnx for stopping by : )

    How can you tell if the birds are male or female?

    • @BLeesPets
      @BLeesPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Finch male has orange cheeks. Male Parakeets usually have blue color on top of their beaks. But when parakeets are young its hard to tell because their color will get darker as they get older. Hope that helps :)

    You need naturally wood perches and shredding toys no Cotten rope toys and no mirrors also birds need to eat pellets not seeds so they don’t get fatty liver disease also you don’t use a mirror because they will get hormonal. You also need more perches and possibly get another cage because birds need there own space. The perches need to be natural wood perches so your birds dont get bumble foot. Also if you can’t afford the cage and it’s set up then you most definitely can not own the bird. Also I don’t prefer the birds from pets mart because they can have a disses and they will not be tame. I am not trying to afend you in any way but I am 10 and have a budgie that is in the best care possible.

    Ugh.. I'm so torn on what to get. I love little birds. I've had budgies but never finches. Though im considering getting a finch. I just have no idea what species. I really would like a little bird who sings pretty songs. I've thought of a canary but im just drawn to the finches more. Any ideas or thoughts for me to consider? I would like to interact with my bird. Have it be comfortable sitting on my hand eating some treats and such. I know finches are more of a hands off type but i don't believe in blanket statements like that. I've seen them become quite friendly with ppl and even fly to them. I just have no idea what type of finch to get or even where to look. It's confusing online. Would be nice to find a breeder who hand raises them...

      Finches are lovely birds as long as you only have 2. 2 Females are best. And you can tame them but it takes a lot of training. Set the cage near you every day and stick hand in cage so they get used to it. Then try and feed them by hand. Females sing or should I saw squeak very nice. On the other hand Budgies are much easier to tame. I tamed my within the first 3 days. Louie gets on my hand as soon as I put my hand in. I do have 2 male budgies and there is less squawking. And male budgies sing very pretty. A Canary is one of my favorites for a singing bird. Which is one that is on my list to get next as a bird :) Don't know much about them yet. Go with your heart :)

    • @BLeesPets
      @BLeesPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes agree I do think it depends on the cage. I've had both types of birds in the big cage I have and the Finches out beat the Budgies in messiness in that cage lol.
