I dont intend on starting my own clothing line any time soon, however I appreciate how much information you give us and how much effort you put into your videos. LOVED the books you showed. Thank you!
Thank you so much for all of the information you teach on TH-cam. Your channel is a rare find, and you fashions you designed are so amazing, and speak for itself. With gratitude, I very much appreciate your time and effort to share the knowledge you have with us. I'm flabbergasted by the quality of your instructions, your teaching style, and your fashions!
My favorite TH-cam Professor of all time!! I love you Zoe! You are a joy to watch and learn from each moment I view your channel!!! Keep it up and be blessed!
Hi Zoe! I just want to say thank you for taking the time out to consistently offer vital information on how to be successful as a fashion designer. You continue to inspire and teach in an unimaginable way through your wisdom, personality, & charm and I truly appreciate it. Furthermore, if you or anyone are wondering about a newer edition of the pattern making book you suggested... it is out there in a fifth edition. Lastly, I'm a huge stickler of wanting to learn more on creating my own textiles by using modern multifunctional techniques while still being fashion forward. Any thoughts on a how to video or any book suggestions?
I'm always interested in more fashion books so if you come across anything cool, let me know! I'm also always looking for more books so I'll do an updated Visual Playlist when I have some new stuff. Thanks for your really lovely previous comment.
That book about Japan's uniforms looks really interesting! I remember how once when I was in Sicily I went to see an exhibition of Italian uniforms and I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants...omg. My friend that was with me was laughing just as much and we really couldn't hold it in. I couldn't believe those were actual uniforms, I had to go on and watch a bunch of documentaries to make myself believe it. You know I love Italians, I really do...and I adore Italian designers...but their uniforms, it's just too much!!!!:) so funny!!!! so crazy....the feathers, the colours...I mean, it's priceless. Speaking about Italians, I love how men there do fashion. They wear suits all the time and the accessorize them so well, to me that looks so elegant and polished. The ladies are very stylish too, always dressed up and feminine....The uniforms, though.
Of course I had to google Italian military uniforms. WHAT IS UP WITH THOSE FEATHERS??? hahahahahahahahaha!!!! I've never been to Italy, but I'm dying to go and do some people-watching.
Zoe Hong I know exactly what I have been thinking when I first saw them, what's up with all the feathers? Perhaps to confuse the opponent?.:) ...I'm sure you would love Italy. I always enjoy people-watching when I'm there:).
Your channel is an incredible resource, I am impressed by all the information your are putting out. I can't stop watching your videos, really charming, smart and generous
That mug is awesome!😍 You mentioned some of these books before and I loved reading all of them, great resources of valuable information so I'm definitely looking forward to read all other books from this video. Thank you for taking time to share this list! I'm a total book nerd and probably spend more on books than fabric for my projects:D
I seriously get the best mugs as gifts. (Most of my friends know I'm a coffee fiend and like to buy me coffee related things.) And yay for fellow book nerds!
In south of Italy we all talk and get really loud over things we really are passionate about! So I totally understand how you feel about it! Loud people has nothing to hide about themselves so I rather continuing being loud than learn how to be quiet! 😬
Kathleens book is a must! I bought after I saw your interview w her. The Vendor Compliance Book too, thks again! & you should get paid these books are sooo helpful!
I loooooooved the Manus exhibit at the Met. I had put off going for a while and then I happened to stumble across something for the exhibit that said it was closing and I ran there the next day. So glad I did.
So glad I discovered your channel Zoe! I've been binge watching ever since. For someone who's unsure about if fashion was the right fit or not, it's very inspiring to see your interviews as well as hearing your encouraging words. Do you have any tips for someone trying to figure out their niche/specialization? There are so many things like surface design, print design, knitwear, couture etc that I want to do everything. Please do a video about finding your own handwriting/identity as a designer if you get a chance! Also, super jealous that you got to go to the Manus x Machina exhibition. I got the book online and it just arrived yesterday. The works and book are just stunning!
>>Do you have any tips for someone trying to figure out their niche/specialization? My advice is not to try to figure this out until you're in the thick of it. Keep an open mind to all the possibilities when you first get started learning the basics. Most programs I know of start with the basics anyway. Zoe, I appreciate the information and the way you share! Thank you sister!! Looking forward to the Fashion Illustration book review. There's so many things about fashion that I am attracted too. :) I have 'a few' fashion illustration books and interested to see if I have the one you are reviewing, as well as what you like or don't about what the books offers. Take Care and Stay Positive!
Thanks bunches Zoe! A lot of people avoid answering this question. So I should be watching the ads through on your videos? If that brings you revenue, I will most happily do so. 😀
I have skippable ads in the beginning of each video. I get a little ad revenue from those. I mainly wanted to make it clear that my opinions on the books weren't sponsored by any outside parties.
Yes, sure! Sorry, I didn't make myself really clear, my comment was rather general on ads and ad blocking. Your video was really helpful, I don't want to persue fashion aside from drawing but it made me want to get a lot of the books. :) Good tip about the museum catalouges.
Thank you for taking the time to do this! Also, they probably were following you in the museum because they thought you were part of the Guided Tours because you knew so much information. I would probably follow you as well! :)
hi mam☺ i m from india nd m a fashion student. u don't knw mam how glad i m to find ur channel nd the way u teach with so passion it motivates me to learn more n more Thank you😊
Yeeeaah zooee about patternmaking i wish u throw something to us even if it is about basic exampl how to make a tshirt or shirt or skirt u know its fine but taanks again we cant describe ur kindness much love from africa
I love this so much :D You're so my kinda people. I have the fabric book with pics as the sample one is so damn expensive. So good and lots of information with examples. Does the pattern making book explain pattern grading and reasoning behind each line? The pattern magic books are stark, for example. I want to draft a two part sleeve. does it explain construction or are there other books for that? Thanks
No grading or construction. Straight up patternmaking. If it were to tackle all 3 for each of the styles it features, it would resemble the Encyclopedia Britannica. For grading, I've found Jack Handford's book pretty helpful, however, I've only used it to create a grade rule. I farm out the actual grading 99% of the time. I have the pattern magic books but haven't made anything in them yet. I know, so sad.
Zoe, I feel like I should support you somehow. You give so much amazing information, so much time, wisdom, lesssons, inspiration, etc... How can I support you back?!?
Thanks! You can support me for free by sharing my channel, specific videos, my website with people. You can shop my Amazon recommendations www.amazon.com/shop/zoehong which is free for the shopper but I get a tiny cut of the price. If you have some cash to spare, you can find me on Patreon, where I will start a podcast soon! www.patreon.com/zoehong
Hey Zoe, could you talk about fashion communication and marketing and give reference of books and websites of the same that guides in accord. with industry and business development?
I have several Pattern Magic books, but I haven't gotten around to making anything from the books. It's perennially in my list of "things I wish I could do if I had the time". The pictures are so awesome I'm itching to play though. Have you tried them out?
Zoe Hong No, not yet. I got pattern magic 1 in new york last year. The book store also had pattern magic three, but it was way above my sewing skill level tbh. I really want to do the woven bodice technique from book 1 but on a circle skirt, and it seems relatively simple to pull off.
Hello! Can you please suggest a similar swatch book but cheaper price? I m not sure I m gonna to be a professional in this area but I want to learn different kinds of fabric! Thank you! ;)
Hello mam I want to build a fast fashion brand or company but I don't have any knowledge about fashion industry or design so mam what should I do? which knowledge of fashion should I take? please suggest me I assure you will suggest me..

That is how it works. Disabling the adblock on your youtube is important if you want to support the artist and youtubers you watch.
