    Hi Zoe! I just want to say thank you for taking the time out to consistently offer vital information on how to be successful as a fashion designer. You continue to inspire and teach in an unimaginable way through your wisdom, personality, & charm and I truly appreciate it. Furthermore, if you or anyone are wondering about a newer edition of the pattern making book you suggested... it is out there in a fifth edition. Lastly, I'm a huge stickler of wanting to learn more on creating my own textiles by using modern multifunctional techniques while still being fashion forward. Any thoughts on a how to video or any book suggestions?

    That book about Japan's uniforms looks really interesting! I remember how once when I was in Sicily I went to see an exhibition of Italian uniforms and I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants...omg. My friend that was with me was laughing just as much and we really couldn't hold it in. I couldn't believe those were actual uniforms, I had to go on and watch a bunch of documentaries to make myself believe it. You know I love Italians, I really do...and I adore Italian designers...but their uniforms, it's just too much!!!!:) so funny!!!! so crazy....the feathers, the colours...I mean, it's priceless. Speaking about Italians, I love how men there do fashion. They wear suits all the time and the accessorize them so well, to me that looks so elegant and polished. The ladies are very stylish too, always dressed up and feminine....The uniforms, though.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course I had to google Italian military uniforms. WHAT IS UP WITH THOSE FEATHERS??? hahahahahahahahaha!!!! I've never been to Italy, but I'm dying to go and do some people-watching.

    • @ivanadzidic4012
      @ivanadzidic4012 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zoe Hong I know exactly what I have been thinking when I first saw them, what's up with all the feathers? Perhaps to confuse the opponent?.:) ...I'm sure you would love Italy. I always enjoy people-watching when I'm there:).

    So glad I discovered your channel Zoe! I've been binge watching ever since. For someone who's unsure about if fashion was the right fit or not, it's very inspiring to see your interviews as well as hearing your encouraging words. Do you have any tips for someone trying to figure out their niche/specialization? There are so many things like surface design, print design, knitwear, couture etc that I want to do everything. Please do a video about finding your own handwriting/identity as a designer if you get a chance!
    Also, super jealous that you got to go to the Manus x Machina exhibition. I got the book online and it just arrived yesterday. The works and book are just stunning!

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      >>Do you have any tips for someone trying to figure out their niche/specialization?
      My advice is not to try to figure this out until you're in the thick of it. Keep an open mind to all the possibilities when you first get started learning the basics. Most programs I know of start with the basics anyway. Take that time to explore, try a little of everything, and learn about yourself and what you gravitate towards.
      >>Please do a video about finding your own handwriting/identity as a designer if you get a chance!
      Afraid not. That's not a tutorial, that's a personal journey.
      >>Also, super jealous that you got to go to the Manus x Machina exhibition.
      It was AMAZEBALLS.

    Thanks bunches Zoe! A lot of people avoid answering this question. So I should be watching the ads through on your videos? If that brings you revenue, I will most happily do so. 😀

    • @maggir8220
      @maggir8220 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is how it works. Disabling the adblock on your youtube is important if you want to support the artist and youtubers you watch.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have skippable ads in the beginning of each video. I get a little ad revenue from those. I mainly wanted to make it clear that my opinions on the books weren't sponsored by any outside parties.

    • @maggir8220
      @maggir8220 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sure! Sorry, I didn't make myself really clear, my comment was rather general on ads and ad blocking.
      Your video was really helpful, I don't want to persue fashion aside from drawing but it made me want to get a lot of the books. :) Good tip about the museum catalouges.

    I love this so much :D You're so my kinda people.
    I have the fabric book with pics as the sample one is so damn expensive. So good and lots of information with examples.
    Does the pattern making book explain pattern grading and reasoning behind each line?
    The pattern magic books are stark, for example. I want to draft a two part sleeve.
    does it explain construction or are there other books for that? Thanks

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No grading or construction. Straight up patternmaking. If it were to tackle all 3 for each of the styles it features, it would resemble the Encyclopedia Britannica. For grading, I've found Jack Handford's book pretty helpful, however, I've only used it to create a grade rule. I farm out the actual grading 99% of the time.
      I have the pattern magic books but haven't made anything in them yet. I know, so sad.

    • @ashereaton7443
      @ashereaton7443 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zoe Hong No, not yet. I got pattern magic 1 in new york last year. The book store also had pattern magic three, but it was way above my sewing skill level tbh. I really want to do the woven bodice technique from book 1 but on a circle skirt, and it seems relatively simple to pull off.

    I have the fith edition of Patternmaking for Fashion Design, it brings a DVD with E-simulation among others things... 95% of what I know about patternmaking I learned from this book.
    About fashion design, I have "Fashion Design Drawing Course" from Caroline Tatham and Julian Seaman, it has been helpful AFTER I followed online The Beta testing course "How to design a fashion collection" of lekha@sewingnpatterns.com and watch your playlist "Fashion Design Process".
    Thanks very much for your generosity, the time, effort and dedication that you put in this channel, I'm very, very grateful of how much I learned from it.
