Thank you so much for this video. It also helped me with my chipper machine from yard machines. The carb float was a little too low. Fixed it up and my chipper is working like a horse and I don’t have to wait for someone to take long repairing it. You saved my butt for the fall leaf season.
Because of Your Video…..I believe my gas leak is now gone; the Float Pin needed tweaking! The float on my carb is brass; so I cleaned up with steel wool-also and Thanks to You The Problem is Solved !!!!
Dude you totally saved me. Mine was not the tab but the float is old and metal and was full of gas. I wouldn't have even thought to check this. Thank you much. Thankfully I had another snow blower for spare parts and was able to switch out the float and now it works great.
FiY only: If you take a bread twist tie and burn away the plastic coating, it works just fine in cleaning the carb. Hold a match or lighter beneath the twist tie and it will pretty much instantly burn right down and leave a small wire there to use in cleaning out that vent hole in the carb.
I have been using a welder tip cleaning tool for small engine carbs. They work great and have several diameter cleaning wires. The wires are knurled and do a terrific job on clearing out the hardened crud from the emulsion tubes and jets.
Commenting to say you saved my ass. New to carburetors and I took mine off my generator, cleaned it, put it back together. Ran great with a super bad leak where carb mounts to manifold. Watched you explain how your float is supposed to work, great explanation. I installed mine backwards so the pin wasn’t plugging the hole. All great now, no leak.
FYI only: Some companies that sell gas-powered edgers will say that if you unscrew your gas tank lid, it often helps release the back pressure that may be causing a gas leak at the carb. Not really sure that this is totally correct for all these issues, but it is claimed by them in their troubleshooting instructions..
My Snapper self-propelled always has an empty tank after a week of non-use, even though I park it full. So there was no obvious leak, but it must be a very slow leak. I'll have to do some more checks.
So, is it normal for fuel to leak out of the intake side if you over-prime the engine? My fuel leaks when I prime, but it does not seem to leak when I don't prime and/or the engine is running.
I bought a new carb for my generator and the fuel filler tube was positioned wrong so I tweaked with my pliers so leaks at fuel tube and carb....is there a sealant I can use to reseal? thanks!

Not sure if any sealant for plastic or rubber will hold with gas.
Seat made of rubber? They swell and hold float needle up draining tank.
I've got one with an 8 hp Briggs and Stratton. The carburetor bowl is pinned on and I can't figure out a way to get it apart to try and fix it.
I stopped cleaning the carbs because they are dirt cheap to buy new, @ $15. You can find on Amazon.
