Great footage of some of the greatest bands on earth back in their hayday! I see many comments from people that were at this concert, how cool it would have been to live this moment! I missed this concert, but as a metal-headed teenager in the mid 70's I was lucky enough to live through this era of rock and attend the many concerts of these great bands! I've been to many DOG'S in 70's and early 80's but this show stood out. I blame my hearing loss on AC/DC. First time I saw Frank Marino and Mohogony Rush. Man those were great times.

I was there too! AC/DC absolutely blew everyone away. Little did I know I would one day sit in a room with the Young bros jamming in Australia at a mate’s place.

I was there. Ted was a wild man. Swinging in on a rope. Throwing the fake rocks in the crowd. I think I went to 5 Days on the green total. Like $12 a ticket for 4-5 big time bands.
Frank ripped the place to pieces. So underrated today. But he was respected by his peers. They were jealous. At 22: he gets into Down, Down, Down. He is a little speedy here but still, fantastic. He opened with that 3/3/83 and man he was better. 2 bum notes in two hours. Bon AC/DC great but nobody captured youthful energy like Frank.
Frank ripped EVERY GOD DAMN PLACE HE EVER WENT to pieces. I always "champion" the "underrated" guys, I love Wishbone Ash, Rory Gallagher, Steve Marriott, etc. but as time has gone by I've started to feel like Frank is probably the very MOST UNDERRATED cat in history. I only saw him once (I was maybe 13/14) but I remember it like it was yesterday. It was STUNNING. Totally indelible memory. One of the two most bludgeoning guitar performances I've EVER witnessed (the other being Rory Gallagher).
I was there, July 21, 1979! Even though it may not look like it, the show started early, I want to say sometime around 11am. It had rained so it was a bit overcast. A friend's mom dropped us off near the front gate at about 6am. We were 2nd row just left of the stage in front of Malcolm Young. After AC/DC played we went and found some seats on the lower deck for Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. They show AC/DC 2nd, but I'm positive they were 3rd after Frank Morino. I have pictures of AC/DC that a friend of mine took, I need to post those somewhere. It was awesome, I was 15 years old, it was a great time. I went on the go to some great concerts over the next 5 years. Classic bands.
I was there! Who remembers the third base dugout? That was the first aid station where people tripping too hard on acid were housed. They even had " i survived the the third base dug out" t shirts! Bill graham could really promote a rock and roll show! RIP bon and bill and malcolm!
Yep, I scored 5 hits just outside of the gate, took 2 and the 3rd when the first 2 kicked in....and was in front of the stage for AC/DC. It was great.😊
46 years later, ANGUS and his band sell out stadiums bigger than this all over Europe....WOW!!! AC/DC, the True Titans of Rock and the sole survivors!!
Because I was there during America's most epic and unforgettable era in musicial history...rock and roll style, I can tell you all, I can still feel, smell, see and remember the whole vibe, when I was 19 in '79.
Those were the last days of pre-rehab Aerosmith. A week later in Cleveland, the famous Milk Throwing Incident occurred and Joe left the band for several years.
I thank my brother to bringing me I was we 15 he got ousted but I allowed to stay it changed my perspective on life these are my favorite bands. PS I got safe ride home
I was there, had to walk back home from Oakland to San Jose, managed to hitch a ride on the Oakland Bridge, back in the day when we didn't have to worry about much!
26:44 😊LOVE THIS! Aerosmith doing Think About It live is the best part of this great concert footage. Never thought I’d see a live video of it from back in the day. Cool song, originally written by the Yardbirds.
I was at "Summer Jam" ....August 5, 1978 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Similar line up as "Day on the Green". The bands were: Walter Egan...Frank Marino...AC/DC...Foreigner & Aerosmith. The ticket cost $15.00..an unbelievable Concert !!
Me too. This was my first concert. I was 13. Bon Scott puts Angus Young, with a wireless guitar, on his shoulders and goes into middle of the audience !
How in the world was Angus able to play along with the boys while running around the stadium??? Only possible when you, the band and the songs are one. Amazing!! Absolutely amazing 😮😮
Reminds me of Aerosmith , Jeff Beck and Rick Derringer at Comiskey Park, July 10, 1976. The show was interrupted (cancelled?) when a fire broke out in the the outfield bleachers. The show was billed as “The World Series of Rock.” General admission $12.50. Those were the days.
Oakland, California at the old Raiders/As stadium on Hegenberger in 1979. Can we give some love to the brilliant Derek St. Holmes who did most of Ted's vocals, especially his best song Stranglehold??
Wow. It's easy to see now how AC/DC & Aerosmith reached SuperGroup status. Just watch how Angus looks and acts like his band is the shit! He ran around that stage just like he's done for the past 40+ years---total dedication! They were micro-sized compared to where they ended up! I remember these days and AC/DC was a good group and all, but no big deal really. Aerosmith was well on their way to becoming The Greatest Rock & Roll band to come out of America ever! This was shortly after the release of the ROCKS album (IMO the Best Aerosmith album). I had been going to a few Day On The Green concerts since 1974.. I was fortunate enough to see Zeppelin July 23rd & 24th (both shows) in '77 and it being The GOAT of all concerts to date! Zeppelin's Last concerts ever in the USA. I can't remember why I missed this one.
I was there. Took BART from Daly city there and back. Not yet 16 and flying solo. I traded a little weed for a beer when Ted came on. Best day of my young life. Still have the stub and the advert from the "pink section" of the Chronicle.
Angus ready and willing to set the entire world on fire and let them all know just what the hell he was all about. The bad boy boogie master, always was and always will be.
I was there at that Day on the Green. I was camped out on second base, stone out of my mind with my friends. Last time I saw AC/DC with Bon Scott. It was after this concert, a few years later, that Bill Graham died in a helicopter crash on a dark and stormy night.
Incredible DOTG Monsters of Rock! I was there w my older brother. Frank played Jimi and transported all back ten years to Woodstock, everybody was Feelin' It🤘🏼. First and last time seeing Bon. My cousin seen AC/DC the yr before so he told us be prepared when Bon carries Angus thru the crowd, we were! Cameraman here didn't know where they were until Angus had scaled the outfield wall up to the bleachers. Aerosmith sounded terrible, were completely shitfaced I learned yrs later. The rad mad badass of RocknRoll, Ted 'motormouth' Nugent, was just that, loincloth and all.🦖
@@themightydecibel-heavymeta7130 Day On the Green festivals in the Oakland Coliseum we're awesome. Saw Judas Priest, Rick Derringer and Led Zeppelin two years earlier in the same stadium.
My brother used himself as a battering ram. Got himself arrested. I tiptoed in and remember a little of the event but was 15 also and alone got thourly drunk and got a ride home from nice couple. Those were the days kids.
Remember this well. Me and the weasel won a trip to the show on the KZAP party bus. The ride to was a party. The ride home, everyone slept... great memories
I was there at this show with my friend Brian. The Day On The Green was billed as MONSTERS OF ROCK, hence the Dinosaur backdrop. The reason the stadium is emptish when St. Paradise was playing was the weather. It RARELY rains in California in the summer, but that morning it did rain. Getting into the stadium was REALLY REALLY SLOW...and many stayed in the cars. We got there early in the morning and I remember taking forever to get inside (remember, this was pre-911 so no metal detectors or pat downs and we had simple paper tickets). When got in, we sat around home plate in the lower box. The stage was in Left/Center field for the Oakland A's. We barely saw St. Paradise. Now AC/DC I barely knew them. I had definitely heard Long Way To The Top, but I didn't know anything about them really. Highway To Hell wasn't released yet. During The Rocker, Angus went out into the field through the crowd. Now I had NO IDEA at the time Wireless systems worked that far range. It took us quite a bit to "find" him and we were shocked he was on shoulders going through the infield. My main memory is the people running with Angus after he climbed over the left field wall to return to the stage. An AC/DC fan was born that day. Brian and I went to San Mateo to Banana Records at Hillsdale Mall a few days after the show and we bought EVERY AC/DC album they had. Now I'm "Malcolm" in an AC/DC tribute band, so I really became a big fan (Priest /DC). I knew Frank Marino and Electric Reflections of War. He was great...but I think I only bought his live album. Aerosmith I was RIGHT UP FRONT stage right. Aerosmith was sloppy (my memory) and they appeared hammered...probably were. I didn't care. I can still remember clearly Bill Graham came out to introduce the "Chairman of the board", Ted Nugent and he came swinging out on a vine with loin cloth....we loved it.
That's what Ted was talking about when he came out. He didn't name Aerosmith but started rapping about cocaine and drugs. They sucked bad. I went up to 3rd deck and took a nap when they played. Aerosmith sucked. I always thought Ted was a coke head until I found out he never touched it. Dawned on me he was talking about them.
Sorry to see Bob Segar and Charlie Daniels circuit the fairggounds even ZZ Top. They are and always be legends. Just nice to even see them in a venue. They deserved so much better tho imo. I was privedged to see them play at concert in Oakland
Didnt know St.Paradise opened up. Former vocalist/guitar and bassist (Derek St. Holmes/Rob Grange) from Ted Nugents previous band. On the same bill with Ted and his new band...a coincidence? Great lineup at this festival. 1979 was my first year going to concerts.
Derek St. Holmes band opening, his voice is unmistakable. Derek was responsible for all the great vocals and co-writing on Ted's first album, "Queen of the Forest" being one of my all-time favs. As the story goes, it was said that all band members contributed to writing the songs on the first album, but Ted took sole credit for all but "Hey Baby". I always thought Derek was the talented one.
Frank Marino is just incredible! I first saw him when he was 17, playing Hendrix like no-one else at that time, on a Gibson SG!!! Aerosmith's sound is really sh#%$%?y just like when I saw them the year before...Trouble with their soundman? AC/DC and Ted Nugent really rock!
Only time I got see AC/DC. What I remember most was crashing of alcohol bottles being tossed into the dumpster next to ticket entrance. At one point someone turns around and hands me a bottle of JD, so I drink some and pass it to the guy behind me. No liquor was wasted 😆

I was there too! AC/DC absolutely blew everyone away. Little did I know I would one day sit in a room with the Young bros jamming in Australia at a mate’s place.
I was there too, I was in front of the stage tripping balls when Angus crowd surfed the field.. it was the highlight of the entire concert for me. Glad you liked it too.
I Laugh When People Say Bon Scott Era or Brian Johnson Era ,,Without Malcolm ACDCWould Never Have Happened He's There Very Reason They Existed His Riffs His Knowing How To Run A Band Facts RIP Malcolm
Malcolm said "Bon was special"
Yes. Bon era is the best. Thanks for asking
I saw ACDC 3X in the spring/summer/fall 1979. Seen them many times with Brian, but Bon was magical.
So nice to see my people that were experiencing day on the green with me. It was truly a magical experience not talking mushrooms but true music lovers Ted and acdc killed it. Chap trick, journey too.no other venue ever an replicate this the 70's were the best
My first concert, a 16th birthday present from my late big brother.
Bless your BIG BRO!
SOUNDS LIKE A COOL ONE.
DOING BIG BRO THINGS,WITH LITTLE BRO.🤓
Frank marino...oh little town of Bethlehem..with a floor full of the latest pedals
Had no idea St Paradise were part of this show, nice bonus, released a very good album in 1979.
Would like to see their whole set!
DEREK!!🤘
Whitford/st Holmes should do another album in 2024!!!!!!
No way. Tomorrow I have to go to the record store then.
1979 Aerosmith was in turmoil, but "Night in the Ruts" is still a great album.
RIP Jimmy Ayoub drummer of Mahogany Rush !
Was there for this one as well as many other Day on the Green concerts from 1976 to 1982.
💥💥💥💥💥💥
Summer 1978, Giants Stadium; East Rutherford, New Jersey..... Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Nugent and Aerosmith !
15 y.o. and Rock and Roll in !!!!!!!!!
I was there. Ted was a wild man. Swinging in on a rope. Throwing the fake rocks in the crowd. I think I went to 5 Days on the green total. Like $12 a ticket for 4-5 big time bands.
Insane! day on the green was so cheap! Bill graham the greatest rock promoter and its not even close. Monsters of rock!
Brendan Moylan was there, Jimmy Delosada drove, thanks, My wife, Jessica McDonald could not make it she was only 1. AC/DC killed it !!
Ted Nugent in his prime . Fantastic !
The best concert I ever attended. Just outstanding ..
Frank >
Oh I was there too!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I totally agree with you that it was a superlative concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be well, guys ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I thank my brother to bringing me
I was we 15 he got ousted but I allowed to stay it changed my perspective on life these are my favorite bands. PS I got safe ride home
I was there, had to walk back home from Oakland to San Jose, managed to hitch a ride on the Oakland Bridge, back in the day when we didn't have to worry about much!
My first concert was Triumph and Legs Diamond then shortly after i saw Van Halen
Yeah, Giants stadium that summer(1978) had Mahogany Rush, Nugent and Aerosmith. 👍
@DeanS.F.S.K. Aerosmith and Nugent on the same bill...I bet that was one hell of a concert....
That is St. Paradise, which had Derek St. Holmes, Rob Grange and Denny Carmmasi
I never knew of this line up. Love all these guys
Me too. This was my first concert. I was 13. Bon Scott puts Angus Young, with a wireless guitar, on his shoulders and goes into middle of the audience !
I was there😮
How in the world was Angus able to play along with the boys while running around the stadium??? Only possible when you, the band and the songs are one. Amazing!! Absolutely amazing 😮😮
Did his guitar have a wireless hookup? I can't see any plug in cord. Maybe the resolution is too poor to see it?
That's a nice minty Hamer Standard that Derek St. Holmes is playing there...
20 years old..was there..only time seeing Uncle Ted!...it was loud!..Aerosmith had sound issues!
I was there! I was the dude in the hat next to some other people.
I met all the other people who said they were there too. Had fun
Thanks for sharing.
Was there. Seems so much like a dream now
I know right, seems like a cople of life times ago. & this old world keeps on turning.
Oakland, California at the old Raiders/As stadium on Hegenberger in 1979. Can we give some love to the brilliant Derek St. Holmes who did most of Ted's vocals, especially his best song Stranglehold??
That’s not Derek. It’s Charlie Huhn. Derek had already left.
@@davidhuffman5029 Thanks to YT , I can watch videos of Derek with Ted.
Saw Ted with Charlie, so disappointed.
First concert I ever went to. 12 ears old
This was my first concert, and it was an incredible show.
I was there. 🎸 🎶 I was 17. 😁
Me too! Class of 79!
Angus ready and willing to set the entire world on fire and let them all know just what the hell he was all about. The bad boy boogie master, always was and always will be.
thanks ..
I was there. Went to 10 DOTG's. Those were the days!!!
The rad mad badass of RocknRoll, Ted 'motormouth' Nugent, was just that, loincloth and all.🦖
Damn, you were lucky to have been there!
Frank is just a bad ass!
Ted Nugent hit me in the head with a metal guitar pick I still have that guitar picks😊
In spite of the ridiculous costume or lack thereof, Uncle Ted could rock-and-freaking-roll in 1979.
I was at this show. Frank Marino and Mahagony Rush stole the show from everyone else there.
I'm one jealous metalhead!
@@themightydecibel-heavymeta7130 Day On the Green festivals in the Oakland Coliseum we're awesome. Saw Judas Priest, Rick Derringer and Led Zeppelin two years earlier in the same stadium.
@@bobhope3716 Okay, now you're just showing off!
@@themightydecibel-heavymeta7130 Yes ! Saw Rush 18 times !
@@bobhope3716 Sigh.
Loved day on the greens in Oakland bodabagas and Kessller
Awesome footage 👍
I saw this show in Chicago. It was great. 🤘🃏🎸🥃🍺🤤🇺🇲
I was there it was kind of chilly this day in Oakland
Call me jealous!
San Mateo in the house too!
Was there! Loved it when Ted came swinging out on a vine in a loin cloth!
@@laurapestoni3372 Nice! Yes, as a 17 yr old boy, I was like HELL YEAH.
AC/DC did rip it up but AEROSMITH, for me, was ripping it up just as much!!
Sorry to see Bob Segar and Charlie Daniels circuit the fairggounds even ZZ Top. They are and always be legends. Just nice to even see them in a venue. They deserved so much better tho imo. I was privedged to see them play at concert in Oakland
Frank, ripping everyone's face off!!
Iwas there up front it rained some but being that close was kind of scary I was 16 found out about Mr. MARINO though that was the best thing
That wasn't the sound man. They were just a sloppy live band.
@@cbh440 Sadly, I have to agree...They were so high on cocaine they couldn't play the songs tight together....
I was there too!
I can feel it! Can you ❤️
Only time I got see AC/DC. What I remember most was crashing of alcohol bottles being tossed into the dumpster next to ticket entrance. At one point someone turns around and hands me a bottle of JD, so I drink some and pass it to the guy behind me. No liquor was wasted 😆
Got nothing like that anymore. Real music played by real musicians.
I was there. What an awesome concert.
I was there !!!!
immagine all the 80's music with tube and tube overdrive sound in the guitars
i was there ! 15 years old and an ounce of lumbo , my buddy was so stoned he was drooling all over himself haaa
