Ted Nugent, then Aerosmith were the High Priests. Van Halen was the 2nd best show I've ever seen, but before 1982. Van Halen 2 Tour. Then they changed their sound system in 1982 and were never the same after that. Judas Priest has actually improved every time you see them, they get better and better.

I went to the ‘79 Day on the Green in Oakland CA. Exact same line up. AC/DC blew every one away. Angus Young went into the outfield audience while jamming on “Whole Lotta Rosie”. This was my favorite stadium concert.
I was there too! AC/DC absolutely blew everyone away. Little did I know I would one day sit in a room with the Young bros jamming in Australia at a mate’s place.
I was there too, I was in front of the stage tripping balls when Angus crowd surfed the field.. it was the highlight of the entire concert for me. Glad you liked it too.
Wow! Yeah man! They're was about 8 of us that went for this show, AC/DC just tore it up! Gawd i miss those days, Days on the Green, Winterland, The Keystones, Old Waldorf...so many venues and the Best!! Music of all time!!
Yep lots of great concert venues in the Bay Area. Saw KISS and Cheap Trick at the Cow Palace in 1977, saw Iron Maiden and Scorpions and Loverboy at the Day on the green at the baseball stadium in I think 83. Saw Scorpions and Ted Nugent at the Cow Palace in maybe 79. Also saw Y&T at the Old Waldorf in 83 or 84. Great shows in the Bay Area!!!!!!!! 👍🎸🌉
I saw Blue Oyster Cult…aka Soft White Underbelly at the Old Waldorf. It was freakin awesome, they blew the roof off that place! Those were the best times, I grew up in San Francisco and I saw all of the great concerts and I went to the closing of Winterland.
I saw Van Halen at the Henry J Kaiser Center as well as seeing them when they opened for Black Sabbath at the Oakland Arena. Led Zeppelin at the Oakland Coliseum, Rod Stewart and the Faces with Peter Frampton and War at Spartan Stadium in San Jose. Boston’s debut at Winterland. I saw the original Lynyrd Skynyrd 7 times. And I saw the Rossington Collin’s Band at the Warfield Theater. I could go on , but it’ll take hours. Those were the best times for music and shows.
@@kpalexander especially The Old Waldorf! A small venue to boot!! .....over all for me Budgie was a showstopper!!! Zebra was mind-blowing as well, but I ll say this Rory Gallagher was and still is my all-time number 1 artist.... nobody could Match his energy and burn the stage up like the Irish gunslinger could.... RIP RORY!!!
The late, great Bon Scott. What a line up of kick ass bands. We could use concerts like that today. In ‘77 I saw Nugent, REO, Journey, Skynyrd, and .38 Special at Soldier Field in Chicago. What a day!! Hot, loud and awesome. Those were the days back then. Rock on!🎸🥁👍🇺🇸❤️

I was in the Navy stationed at the Naval Air Station Alameda and went to this concert. I was ripped. I don't remember much of it but am pretty sure I had a good time.
Was there with two buddies. AC/DC was volcanic. Peerless. Felt sorry for Aerosmith and Nugent. Oh, and Frank Marino was untethered from reality. Insanely gifted guitarist.
Great footage of some of the greatest bands on earth back in their hayday! I see many comments from people that were at this concert, how cool it would have been to live this moment! I missed this concert, but as a metal-headed teenager in the mid 70's I was lucky enough to live through this era of rock and attend the many concerts of these great bands! It was a time like no other, I can't imagine growing up in any other era. Those were the days!
So nice to see my people that were experiencing day on the green with me. It was truly a magical experience not talking mushrooms but true music lovers Ted and acdc killed it. Chap trick, journey too.no other venue ever an replicate this the 70's were the best
I was 20 yo in '74, a guitarist since age 8, so while i was not at this show i went to dozens like it. Thankful to have lived through this era, 60s-90s. It will never come again. Sad part is, quality video is so sparce.
April 1979 and within next 15 months HWTH would be released, Bon Scott would pass and one of the greatest hard rock albums of all times would be released on July 25th 1980. Tragedy & Triumph in such a short span of time. RIP Bon & Malcolm
I was there, July 21, 1979! Even though it may not look like it, the show started early, I want to say sometime around 11am. It had rained so it was a bit overcast. A friend's mom dropped us off near the front gate at about 6am. We were 2nd row just left of the stage in front of Malcolm Young. After AC/DC played we went and found some seats on the lower deck for Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. They show AC/DC 2nd, but I'm positive they were 3rd after Frank Morino. I have pictures of AC/DC that a friend of mine took, I need to post those somewhere. It was awesome, I was 15 years old, it was a great time. I went on the go to some great concerts over the next 5 years. Classic bands.
Frank ripped the place to pieces. So underrated today. But he was respected by his peers. They were jealous. At 22: he gets into Down, Down, Down. He is a little speedy here but still, fantastic. He opened with that 3/3/83 and man he was better. 2 bum notes in two hours. Bon AC/DC great but nobody captured youthful energy like Frank.
Frank ripped EVERY GOD DAMN PLACE HE EVER WENT to pieces. I always "champion" the "underrated" guys, I love Wishbone Ash, Rory Gallagher, Steve Marriott, etc. but as time has gone by I've started to feel like Frank is probably the very MOST UNDERRATED cat in history. I only saw him once (I was maybe 13/14) but I remember it like it was yesterday. It was STUNNING. Totally indelible memory. One of the two most bludgeoning guitar performances I've EVER witnessed (the other being Rory Gallagher).
46 years later, ANGUS and his band sell out stadiums bigger than this all over Europe....WOW!!! AC/DC, the True Titans of Rock and the sole survivors!!
I was there! Who remembers the third base dugout? That was the first aid station where people tripping too hard on acid were housed. They even had " i survived the the third base dug out" t shirts! Bill graham could really promote a rock and roll show! RIP bon and bill and malcolm!
Yep, I scored 5 hits just outside of the gate, took 2 and the 3rd when the first 2 kicked in....and was in front of the stage for AC/DC. It was great.😊
I thank my brother to bringing me I was we 15 he got ousted but I allowed to stay it changed my perspective on life these are my favorite bands. PS I got safe ride home
I was there. Ted was a wild man. Swinging in on a rope. Throwing the fake rocks in the crowd. I think I went to 5 Days on the green total. Like $12 a ticket for 4-5 big time bands.
My buddy’s and I from Fremont went to this EPIC concert that I have never forgotten after all these years. Ted Nugent throwing those large fake stones after swinging in on a rope like Tarzan was mind blowing . Day on the Green concerts were a blast! You could see a handful of great bands all in one day for $12.50!
I'm from Sacramento about a 2 hr drive to Oakland. I was there! Started out about 10 ft from the stage but eventually got pushed back. I've been to many DOG'S in 70's and early 80's but this show stood out. I blame my hearing loss on AC/DC. First time I saw Frank Marino and Mohogony Rush. Man those were great times.
Because I was there during America's most epic and unforgettable era in musicial history...rock and roll style, I can tell you all, I can still feel, smell, see and remember the whole vibe, when I was 19 in '79.
Me too. This was my first concert. I was 13. Bon Scott puts Angus Young, with a wireless guitar, on his shoulders and goes into middle of the audience !
@@themightydecibel-heavymeta7130 Day On the Green festivals in the Oakland Coliseum we're awesome. Saw Judas Priest, Rick Derringer and Led Zeppelin two years earlier in the same stadium.
Those were the last days of pre-rehab Aerosmith. A week later in Cleveland, the famous Milk Throwing Incident occurred and Joe left the band for several years.
How in the world was Angus able to play along with the boys while running around the stadium??? Only possible when you, the band and the songs are one. Amazing!! Absolutely amazing 😮😮
I was at "Summer Jam" ....August 5, 1978 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Similar line up as "Day on the Green". The bands were: Walter Egan...Frank Marino...AC/DC...Foreigner & Aerosmith. The ticket cost $15.00..an unbelievable Concert !!
I was 15 in 1979 also a massive AC/DC fan with the great Bon Scott, Highway to Hell came out the same year, still one of my favourite records. I was still at school in England when Bon died the following year, to this day at nearly 61 I still love the Bon Scott era, sadly I never got to see them live with Bon, I first saw them in 1981 at the 2nd monsters of rock festival which they headlined with Whitesnake, I was also able to take one of my sons to see them headline at the same venue, now the Download festival 30 years later great times and memories.
I was there, had to walk back home from Oakland to San Jose, managed to hitch a ride on the Oakland Bridge, back in the day when we didn't have to worry about much!
Great show! Had to go when Nugent opened..Over exhausted and other things!🤪 AC/DC & Marino stole the show! Could have done without Aeroschmights! Thanks Mighty Decibel for the share..
I was here in Oak-town,CA I grew up in Bay Area, seen hundreds of shows, bands, concerts.. I was going to be 13yrs in Oct of this year. My 3nd big rock concert. oh the memories... and all those hot chicks. Dittos and tube tops.
Incredible DOTG Monsters of Rock! I was there w my older brother. Frank played Jimi and transported all back ten years to Woodstock, everybody was Feelin' It🤘🏼. First and last time seeing Bon. My cousin seen AC/DC the yr before so he told us be prepared when Bon carries Angus thru the crowd, we were! Cameraman here didn't know where they were until Angus had scaled the outfield wall up to the bleachers. Aerosmith sounded terrible, were completely shitfaced I learned yrs later. The rad mad badass of RocknRoll, Ted 'motormouth' Nugent, was just that, loincloth and all.🦖
I was there at this show with my friend Brian. The Day On The Green was billed as MONSTERS OF ROCK, hence the Dinosaur backdrop. The reason the stadium is emptish when St. Paradise was playing was the weather. It RARELY rains in California in the summer, but that morning it did rain. Getting into the stadium was REALLY REALLY SLOW...and many stayed in the cars. We got there early in the morning and I remember taking forever to get inside (remember, this was pre-911 so no metal detectors or pat downs and we had simple paper tickets). When got in, we sat around home plate in the lower box. The stage was in Left/Center field for the Oakland A's. We barely saw St. Paradise. Now AC/DC I barely knew them. I had definitely heard Long Way To The Top, but I didn't know anything about them really. Highway To Hell wasn't released yet. During The Rocker, Angus went out into the field through the crowd. Now I had NO IDEA at the time Wireless systems worked that far range. It took us quite a bit to "find" him and we were shocked he was on shoulders going through the infield. My main memory is the people running with Angus after he climbed over the left field wall to return to the stage. An AC/DC fan was born that day. Brian and I went to San Mateo to Banana Records at Hillsdale Mall a few days after the show and we bought EVERY AC/DC album they had. Now I'm "Malcolm" in an AC/DC tribute band, so I really became a big fan (Priest /DC). I knew Frank Marino and Electric Reflections of War. He was great...but I think I only bought his live album. Aerosmith I was RIGHT UP FRONT stage right. Aerosmith was sloppy (my memory) and they appeared hammered...probably were. I didn't care. I can still remember clearly Bill Graham came out to introduce the "Chairman of the board", Ted Nugent and he came swinging out on a vine with loin cloth....we loved it.
That's what Ted was talking about when he came out. He didn't name Aerosmith but started rapping about cocaine and drugs. They sucked bad. I went up to 3rd deck and took a nap when they played. Aerosmith sucked. I always thought Ted was a coke head until I found out he never touched it. Dawned on me he was talking about them.
I was there. Took BART from Daly city there and back. Not yet 16 and flying solo. I traded a little weed for a beer when Ted came on. Best day of my young life. Still have the stub and the advert from the "pink section" of the Chronicle.
I was there at that Day on the Green. I was camped out on second base, stone out of my mind with my friends. Last time I saw AC/DC with Bon Scott. It was after this concert, a few years later, that Bill Graham died in a helicopter crash on a dark and stormy night.
I Laugh When People Say Bon Scott Era or Brian Johnson Era ,,Without Malcolm ACDCWould Never Have Happened He's There Very Reason They Existed His Riffs His Knowing How To Run A Band Facts RIP Malcolm

Frank Marino Is An Amazing Everything and NEVER Gets Enough Credit. I Love Him and His Brother Vincent.
Frank would open for Ted and steal the show. Seen him down it twice.
Amen to that...............a guitar wizard
Brendan Moylan was there, Jimmy Delosada drove, thanks, My wife, Jessica McDonald could not make it she was only 1. AC/DC killed it !!
Frank marino...oh little town of Bethlehem..with a floor full of the latest pedals
This was my first concert at 15 years old, and I'm still a Bon Scott fan.
Had no idea St Paradise were part of this show, nice bonus, released a very good album in 1979.
Would like to see their whole set!
DEREK!!🤘
Wow!
I have to add this, I saw Journey at the Old Waldorf when they introduced Steve Perry to their band. Can you imagine having cell phones back then?
@@kpalexander especially The Old Waldorf! A small venue to boot!! .....over all for me Budgie was a showstopper!!! Zebra was mind-blowing as well, but I ll say this Rory Gallagher was and still is my all-time number 1 artist.... nobody could
Match his energy and burn the stage up like the Irish gunslinger could.... RIP RORY!!!
That is St. Paradise, which had Derek St. Holmes, Rob Grange and Denny Carmmasi
I never knew of this line up. Love all these guys
Rock on!🎸🥁👍🇺🇸❤️
I was there too! Remember when everyone started throwing empty milk jugs used for water around? It looked like popcorn popping off.
@@AlanSanders-ij2pk I do remember that! We sat straight out from the stage at the far end and up high. Looking down it did look like popcorn. Hotter than hell and full sun that day! But a damn good show! Rock on.👍🥁🎸🇺🇸❤️
@@AlanSanders-ij2pk Ha! And one more thing- Nugent was running back and forth across the stage and yelling “you m-f ers can’t hit me!” He didn’t miss a beat playing his axe while he’s dodging milk jugs! Good memories! Thanx.👍🎸🥁🇺🇸❤️
"Super Bowl of Rock"
I was in the Navy stationed at the Naval Air Station Alameda and went to this concert. I was ripped. I don't remember much of it but am pretty sure I had a good time.
Was there with two buddies. AC/DC was volcanic. Peerless. Felt sorry for Aerosmith and Nugent. Oh, and Frank Marino was untethered from reality. Insanely gifted guitarist.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
Chap trick, journey too.no other venue ever an replicate this the 70's were the best
came across this today,, yes i was there 15 yrs old then, lol. we really did have some of the best didn't we , cheers. peace
I was 20 yo in '74, a guitarist since age 8, so while i was not at this show i went to dozens like it. Thankful to have lived through this era, 60s-90s. It will never come again. Sad part is, quality video is so sparce.
I saw ACDC 3X in the spring/summer/fall 1979. Seen them many times with Brian, but Bon was magical.
April 1979 and within next 15 months HWTH would be released, Bon Scott would pass and one of the greatest hard rock albums of all times would be released on July 25th 1980. Tragedy & Triumph in such a short span of time. RIP Bon & Malcolm
HTH was released in July ‘79. Bon died in February 1980.
HTH came out in summer 1979
Was there for this one as well as many other Day on the Green concerts from 1976 to 1982.
My first concert, a 16th birthday present from my late big brother.
Bless your BIG BRO!
SOUNDS LIKE A COOL ONE.
DOING BIG BRO THINGS,WITH LITTLE BRO.🤓
Oh I was there too!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I totally agree with you that it was a superlative concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be well, guys ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Born and raised in the Bay and these concerts were our life
Yes! Perfect time to be a teenager then! I went to this one. It’s so awesome to see it now. Love it!❤❤❤
46 years later, ANGUS and his band sell out stadiums bigger than this all over Europe....WOW!!! AC/DC, the True Titans of Rock and the sole survivors!!
The best concert I ever attended. Just outstanding ..
How fortunate are we to grow up listening to this music. Cmon
1979 Aerosmith was in turmoil, but "Night in the Ruts" is still a great album.
It was great.😊
I thank my brother to bringing me
I was we 15 he got ousted but I allowed to stay it changed my perspective on life these are my favorite bands. PS I got safe ride home
Thanks for this, raw power on stage with no bs tricks.
😎
That was my time ,albeit I was on the UK side of things.
Rock is Rock.
Unbelievable footage. I can't beckon a time machine any more.
GIANTS!!!
FRANK AND TED, ARE MY GUITAR HEROES!!!
I was there. Ted was a wild man. Swinging in on a rope. Throwing the fake rocks in the crowd. I think I went to 5 Days on the green total. Like $12 a ticket for 4-5 big time bands.
Insane! day on the green was so cheap! Bill graham the greatest rock promoter and its not even close. Monsters of rock!
Yes! Ted Nugent in his Tarzan suit! Swinging in on the rope!😂
Zeppelin and Priest, July 1977!
and Rick Derringer. Watching Priest that day opened my eyes to a much heavier sound
I was there in 76, 77, and 78. Then I went back home to Texas.
Because I was there during America's most epic and unforgettable era in musicial history...rock and roll style, I can tell you all, I can still feel, smell, see and remember the whole vibe, when I was 19 in '79.
Yup! Me too- those were the days and it’s amazing I can still hear!😂
Me too. This was my first concert. I was 13. Bon Scott puts Angus Young, with a wireless guitar, on his shoulders and goes into middle of the audience !
If this was SF, I was there! I was 14 and wearing a tube top and French jeans! So fun!! My first Day on the Green!
I was at this show. Frank Marino and Mahagony Rush stole the show from everyone else there.
I'm one jealous metalhead!
@@themightydecibel-heavymeta7130 Day On the Green festivals in the Oakland Coliseum we're awesome. Saw Judas Priest, Rick Derringer and Led Zeppelin two years earlier in the same stadium.
@@bobhope3716 Okay, now you're just showing off!
@@themightydecibel-heavymeta7130 Yes ! Saw Rush 18 times !
@@bobhope3716 Sigh.
Those were the last days of pre-rehab Aerosmith. A week later in Cleveland, the famous Milk Throwing Incident occurred and Joe left the band for several years.
I was there. Bon w/ Angus on his shoulders walked about 5 feet from where we were on the grass. Incredible show. Thanks for sharing this.
I was there too!!! I was a senior in High School Del Valle in Walnut Creek, 15 miles away from the Coliseum.
How in the world was Angus able to play along with the boys while running around the stadium??? Only possible when you, the band and the songs are one. Amazing!! Absolutely amazing 😮😮
Did his guitar have a wireless hookup? I can't see any plug in cord. Maybe the resolution is too poor to see it?
@@HankColter Yes, he played wireless. The plug was used as antenna.
I was at this show. Day on the green baby ! I was 18. If I remember correctly, it rained during Mahogany Rush
I was there and it was amazing as usual. Day On The Green’s were the best.
Yeah, Giants stadium that summer(1978) had Mahogany Rush, Nugent and Aerosmith. 👍
@DeanS.F.S.K. Aerosmith and Nugent on the same bill...I bet that was one hell of a concert....
Wow, that energy!
Four superbands. A legend all of them today. Incredible concert.
RIP Jimmy Ayoub drummer of Mahogany Rush !
Bass player I think. Saw them at Cal Jam 2. Great show.
The rad mad badass of RocknRoll, Ted 'motormouth' Nugent, was just that, loincloth and all.🦖
Damn, you were lucky to have been there!
That's a nice minty Hamer Standard that Derek St. Holmes is playing there...
20 years old..was there..only time seeing Uncle Ted!...it was loud!..Aerosmith had sound issues!
I was there😮
Amazed my mom let my 13 year old self go with a friend! Had no idea it be my first and last time seeing Bon!
Was there. Seems so much like a dream now
I know right, seems like a cople of life times ago. & this old world keeps on turning.
In spite of the ridiculous costume or lack thereof, Uncle Ted could rock-and-freaking-roll in 1979.
Call me jealous!
San Mateo in the house too!
Was there! Loved it when Ted came swinging out on a vine in a loin cloth!
@@laurapestoni3372 Nice! Yes, as a 17 yr old boy, I was like HELL YEAH.
I think I remember this gig... 4th of July, I believe.
This was my first concert, and it was an incredible show.
Ale cudny filmik!!!👏👍
I was there along with about 60 thousand others. Never seen a line of people waiting to get in so long.
I wasn't there. But I was in Cleveland a week later. First american live appearance of Scorpions. Long live rock!
I Laugh When People Say Bon Scott Era or Brian Johnson Era ,,Without Malcolm ACDCWould Never Have Happened He's There Very Reason They Existed His Riffs His Knowing How To Run A Band Facts RIP Malcolm

Yes. Bon era is the best. Thanks for asking
I was there it was kind of chilly this day in Oakland
Oakland, California at the old Raiders/As stadium on Hegenberger in 1979. Can we give some love to the brilliant Derek St. Holmes who did most of Ted's vocals, especially his best song Stranglehold??
That’s not Derek. It’s Charlie Huhn. Derek had already left.

I was at that show right up front still got the ticket stub $12
@michaelzukowski5541
I had glued all of my ticket stubs from concerts from the 70s and 80s, including this one, and glued them to poster board then placed it under glass on a coffee table !
It was so f'ing cool, great compliments on turning my stubs into something useful ! It was totally destroyed in a flood back in 2011. 😡
@@DeanS.F.S.K. I had similar to that but on a black folder no glass no idea what happened to it but I still have most of the ticket stub including lynyrd skynyrd from 1976 at capital theater in Passaic nj
My first concert was Triumph and Legs Diamond then shortly after i saw Van Halen
Loved Triumpth!👍👍👍
Ted Nugent in his prime . Fantastic !
When musicians were still musicians. ❤
Investing in wireless guitar pickup for Angus was a wise move. Awesome show!
I saw them (AC/DC) in Columbus, Oh about 6 months after this (or was it before?) this show. Saw Boston, Sabbath, then these guys. 6 dollar tickets.
