    I have seen SRV, Trower, Steve Morris, Eric Johnson, Yngvie Malmsteen, but to this very day, 10/21/20, Frank Marino was the best I have seen (overall). And so under rated. Sad

    A friend of mine while in college from Chicago turned me on to him in 77while at Grambling State.. I was 20 yrs old then. Have always loved rock blues soul funk country....what ever from far back as I can remember . Im a black guy not supposed to be listening to "rock" music>>> LOL Around 79 he came to Lake Charles La and i'm sure I was the only black guy in there but he burned the place DOWN !!!!!!!!!! I guess this area is more country/western rock town but I thought it would be packed and it wasn't AT ALL But he put on one hellava show......Would love to see him again now !!!!!!

    • @MrJohnnyDistortion
      @MrJohnnyDistortion 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @paulhabat6338
      Frank uses extremely light gauge strings.
      8-9-12-15-26-38
      Unwound 4th-D string. The neck has a steel truss rod inside. It's the neck joint that can suffer. Hence, the use of a custom light gauge string set.

    In the beginning God made the earth and then he created Frank Marino! Then he saw that the earth was quiet and without sound so God removed one of Franks ribs and formed the Guitar! God said unto Frank - Frank! Frank! Thou shalt practice thine instrument until thy skin rotts to the bone! Thou shalt master thine instrument and bringeth fourth the sound of HOLY RIGHTEOUSNESS! God was pleased at what he had created and saw that it was good! Amen!!!!!!!

    I was visiting Florida as a teenager and got invited to go to a Nazareth concert. I guess it's 1976..1977... Hollywood Sportatorium.
    This genius opened . Frank Marino is with limited company regarding skills on a guitar.
    Next day I found a small record shop in Hollywood as well. I asked the guy if he had Mahogany Rush ....he handed me the 1st live album. I pay him and he said thanks for buying my son's album. Serious.
    I told him I saw Frank for the 1st time the night before. He says to me ....he can't sing for shit , but he can play the guitar.

    I think I saw the second show ever of Frank with this band in Repentigny Quebec.
    It was in a small highschool cafeteria in 1972.We were both 17 years old.The sg howled thru a main fender amp with two tube fender bandmasters in unisson to boost the e.q.he also had two cabinets with two 15 inchers in each and two cabinets with four 12inchers in each.When he hit a high note my throat tensed up and my ears were buzzed for two days loll
    They blew everybody away.He played so cosmic Hendrix that at the end of the show everybody came out with their jaws locked open wondering what musical time tunnel they just went into.He was second to none even at that age.

    Man this dude was a beast! Had the biggest pedalboard known to man back then. And what's most amazing is that he got sounds out of that Gibson SG that I would've never imagined came from that guitar(with the help of all those effects of course. And that Vibriola System is one of the worst tremolo systems Gibson ever made, but somehow he figured out a way to keep the guitar in tune, even with bending the bar back and doing crazy divebombs with it! I must say I was floored when I saw him on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert about 40 years ago. It's great to know he's still kicking now!

      I had the honour of meeting Frank a few times. The first time was when my band opened for him at a massive nightclub called called "Entex" (west of Toronto). This would have been about the mid/late 1980s. I would have been 24 or so - and he was my hero.
      I built up the nerve to say hello, and he spent the hour or so before the show telling stories and showing me riffs. Also, on the stage, he had a modified model train set - so the fucking pedals could follow him around instead of being stuck in a massive pile behind him.
      In spite of his reputation for being a quiet loner, the man was (Is? Of course he is still alive... shit...) outgoing and full of smiles and laughter. And when he took the stage, 3,000 people forgot how to breathe and blink for two hours.
      Its been close to thirty years since I have seen him, but he left an indelible impression on me.

He still smoked the stage 30 yrs later. You can hear the Jimi Hendrix influence. Yet Frank had such a unique style and sound. Mahogany Rush are unsung heroes of their genre.
