My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this TH-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

I think I eat at Terminal 21 at least 3-4 times a week. Most of the dishes in the food court are quite tasty and very affordable. Good one Gary!

Just arrived in Sukhumvit today and was starving, found this video and absolutely loved the food here. So good.
As a local, I can confirm that food court at Terminal 21 is among the cheapest in shopping malls. With decent foods and variety. The vegetarian store was pretty nice. The fruit blend juice bar was unique. The food court had been the cheapest since the beginning and still is to this day.

I’ve just been today and had a selection of goodies: boiled pork and beef with spicy dip; rice with roasted duck, bbq red pork, crispy pork, boiled egg; spicy papaya salad with salted crab; rice with stir-fried pork and basil; washed down with a large est cola

The girls in the coffee bar in Pier 21 are super sweet and work really hard. I always give them a nice tip. Good coffee as well.

Brilliant mate! The beef massaman is tasty over there! I’ve to say I ate a few time in that food court. The value is so good for what you spent plus if you don’t know yet what to eat, you’ll surely find out strolling around the little shops 😃 thanks again champ! 🏆

Pier 21 is great, the only bad thing is that the food usually get a bit cold by the time you find a seat. :-) The mango sticky rice for dessert is AMAZING there.

I love the food court upstairs at terminal 21 everything is so very clean organized and the food tastes so freaking amazing!

Big fan of Terminal 21, the last two times I was in Bangkok I stayed near there and ate probably too much food there. So easy to just order several dishes and eat your favorite. Not the best food, but as you say in the video, can't beat the price and convenience, esp. on a hot/rainy day!

Thanks Gary, If you’re on Sukhumvit and it’s 35 degrees with the brown haze or raining, Terminal 21 is nice and comfortable. The food may not be the greatest but has never disappointed. My favorite is the ice fruit smoothies. Hawker Chan is good but gets mixed reviews and is much $$$$$

I think its important to show the food in all different locations and levels. Malls / Street Food / Restaurants all offer something different and you can find good and bad food in all of them.
Regularly hit Pier 21 when in Bangkok, and always finish off with the Durian and sticky rice :)

Amazing value. Not hard to see why it’s so popular, everyone likes a bit of air con now and again. The food hall inside Central Plazas is also good and cheap.

I took the chicken massaman and it was easily the second best dish I had in my 8 day trip there!!
I also want to recommend to your viewers 2 other dishes:
- Pork pad krapow with fried egg and silken tofu for 70 baht at the nearby Ruam Saab market (Chris gave this recommendation and it's a massive hit)
- Pad see ew just about anywhere

Nice review. I've been to the Terminal 21 food court a lot when I've been in Bangkok. I usually go for lunch if it's raining, or if it's too hot to be wandering around in the sun, which is quite often.
The rest of the food floors have a number of international chains as well as local restaurants. For instance, Korean Bonchon Chicken, Japanese Coco Curry and Yoshinoya, etc. Another great value is in the sub basement where there's a Japanese teppanyaki place where you can get a nice chicken teppanyaki set for around US$5.

I would have never thought the food to be priced this cheap at terminal 21. I love Sukhumvit and have to try the food here. Not sure, if I’ll find vegetarian options though. Thank you for sharing Gary :)

There's one stall that sells purely vegetarian food. It's the opposite of the first stall that he buys (pork& eggs shop). But the last time I visited was many years ago, not sure if it's still there. However, seeing that most of the stalls are pretty much the same, I'm certain it's still open; as it is actually quite popular.

The best Massaman curry is from Sawi Chumphon. My own wedding and many others serve this amazing curry.

i went to a restaurant in central world once i cannot remeber the name but it was a thai place, best massuman i have ever had!!! im a harsh critic too!
My favorite place to be in Bangkok, every time I go to Bangkok I drop my bags at the hotel and I head there. Granted there are more delicious places out there than this, but it’s spread everywhere, it takes time and money to get the best of everything. But terminal 21, man! Almost all the stalls are wonderful, with great fruit smoothies and mango sticky rice. Plus there is more food safety guarantees and the AC! The AC itself worth 50 bahts and I can stay there for hours.
It’s definitely great value for the price!
Great vlog. Brought back happy memories of eating there about five years ago with my Thai 'girlfriend' for the day. It was such great value and so clean I kept going back. Plus it has a great view of Sukhumvit Road. 🙏🙏🙏

Been going there for years, great for cheap food. I like the fruit shakes there as well but usually long que. When it's busy I always fear I will nudge someone and drop my tray.

It’s great that you can find street food in the Mall and economical price. Definitely I will make a note because not every day we want to be out on street. Taking into account the food itself, price, atmosphere, hygiene, etc., T21's 5th floor food court is easily the best in Thailand. Even the utensils are of a high quality (for a food court!).

It's definately the best food court that I have ever eaten at and the khao kha moo, I reckon, is the star of the show. An absolute bargain and great respite from either the heat or the rain!
It’s very good for the price and yeah khao kha moo as you say. I prefer Icon Siam but I live nearby so I’m biased!

You said the chicken biryani is your personal favorite. You should try one in the food court market next to Yanhee Hospital (Bang-O MRT station). I'm sure you'll love this one like I do. (especially fried chicken biryani) XD

Ate there a few years ago when were stayed nearby. Can recommend it if you want somewhere comfortable to sit whilst eating street food. Great info for people staying nearby, who aren't yet brave enough to eat from the street vendors x

Whilst I shall not teach an old dog new tricks, I can see the oil soaked prata is not complementary to an oily curry. If it was possible , I would ladle or pour out the excessive curry oil. Singapore produces the best frozen PRATA - which we can also buy in Holland. Just pop one frozen prata in a non stick pan for a few minutes on each side till it puff up. 😀 I watch many of your well produced videos. Many thanks !

The price is really cheap but the quantity is small and the quality is average. There is no ambience in this Food Court.
Icon Siam food court is much better... albeit more expensive. More choices, better quality, larger servings and prettier ambiance.
That said, a busy street eat is much better.

As a local bkk,i can say the price is not cheapest considered to the quantity per serving and not most delicious in some menu but overall is just ok for eating indoor canteen with Ac .
There are more better food court in other malls.

Hi Gary! At 04:22...it sounded like you asked for fried chicken (gai tod) instead of moo tod. Regardless, khao kha moo for 39 baht is ridiculously cheap! Here in Southern California where there are tons of Thai food, we pay nearly $10 (300 baht) for that same dish! For 39 baht or $1.16 UDS, I could eat about five plates!
He did ask for fried chicken instead of pork. I had to rewind to double check. He did make an on screen correction of asking for Hainanese chicken rice when ordering biriyani.
It normally around 50 baht in common quality street food too
only cheapest one do a 30-40 baht so the one in terminal21 is extra cheap with above average quality

Lalla Coffee is the best jewel of Pier 21. Coffee is cheaper than 7-11 but higher quality than Amazon.

Hi Gary, one advice on this clip. 😀 When you say Mhoo tod, be sure to pronounce tod as Todd, like a name. If you say tod as you did, it means to remove as in Tod Seua (take off the shirt), instead of Todd, as in deep fried. Ok? The difference is just the flex of your tone. 😉

I always enjoy the food there. The only thing is it's typical Thai portions so 3 of these isn't enough for many/most for a day. I'd say 4 plus some snacks and a few drinks if you're trying to figure out a budget.
