MBK is the first shopping Mall in Thailand most of the store in the Food court are been opening more than 60 years. And is my go to food court in Siam district area I been eating here since I was a kid that was like 35 years ago.
As a farang that speaks virtually no Thai I like the shopping mall tours because I will likely try some new food there first before venturing out on the street to get a bit more comfortable with the food first.
Hi Gary ...Another great food tour. I have been to all 3 Food Courts ... Terminal 21 / Icon Siam / MBK and a few others each has something compelling to want to go back to..... Hard to pick a winner ....Like picking a favourite child. Dale (Woodvale - Western Australia)
You are Thai!! absolutely Thai!! I can that the way you understand Thai food and language as well. Thump up. btw, even I am Thai I am still watching and following you to find some good local food around bangkok :)
Cannot wait to go back here and get stuck in to the food. I was scared to try the gloopy noodles last visit but I'm definitely trying it in Feb! Great video. Thank you
10:27 "When I eat chicken, I eat leg. When I eat duck, I eat breast." This is the way. Man after my own heart. Gary, there's a road with great street food about 500m west of MBK, called Banthat Thong Road. There's a branch of Bang Kho Laem's Khao Tom Pla Kimpo there, a great stewed duck place named Tang Sui Heng, and many more. Would love to see you to do a video of this area!
@@theroamingcook I believe that's possible, Gary. MBK is like 37 years old or so. And its food court was opened in one of the first years. But MBK isn't the oldest mall in BKK still opening today tho. There are still a handful of older malls. The first Central (Wang Burapha branch) was opened in 1968, not sure if they had a food court. Central Chidlom is ~50 years old, I have no idea when was their food court first opened (you may check this out). The oldest mall still opening in BKK is Nightingale, opened in 1930, but it doesn't have a food court AFAIK.
20-30 years ago, the old MBK centre food court was really good and dirt cheap, very close to the street food taste. But now, it's just like any other shopping arcade. Before, on the fifth floor pork knuckle with rice was the prize then.
Thank you for the new introduction and extra options for comparison, I have seen this MBK in different TH-camrs but not the food court. The foods you ordered are one of my favorites. I don’t recall to see you try noodles ,call Drunken noodles. They use bell peppers here with white flat noodles and hot basils. Don’t they have this dish in Bangkok?
Thanks for that lovely trip down memory lane for me Gary. The first time I went to Thailand was in 1987, on the Far East tour as a performer with Holiday on Ice. The first stop was performing at Mah Boon Krong, Only known to most nowadays as MBK, on the top floor , which was now a cinema last time I visited. I don't think they even had a food hall in there back then, so the first Thai food I ever ate was on a street stall nearby. It was Pad Thai, and after the first mouthful, I was in love, to this day with Thailand! I'm with you on all this digital nonsense. What a palaver it is just to get some food nowadays! Soon, I fear, there will be barely any human interaction outside out front doors. Great video, as always... Don't forget the Flying Chicken! xxx
Wow, that sounds like such an amazing experience. I never knew the full name! I love hearing peoples stories of their first Thai food that got them hooked! I know, it’s sad isn’t it? We’ll be served and greeted by robots soon 😭
Another good food tour from Gary. My favourite for years at MBK food court was the old China guy and his huge pot of herbal medicinal beef soup/stew. Maybe going back 15 years or more and probably there for more than 10 years at least! It was was exactly where the new cashier stall is now at 2 minutes into this video. It had a few variants of the stew, just beef, beef/cartilage, beef balls and some others choices. It was served in a clay pot and the beef was soo tender and soup flavour was to die for, I've never found anything similar. I liked it so much that I never really tried anything else there. Anyone else remember him and his soup and/or know where I can get similar? Update: Ah I just saw another commentator posting about the same place.
Thanks for this. Didn't realise they had automated the card service. Probably better to have QR codes rather than plastic cards. I've eaten there many times but there are many others just as good. I think Terminal 21 might be better.
Good memories from MBK Mall! The highest floor looked like a Brazilian camelódromo back then, goods placed on cloths on the floor. Next time I'll make sure to look for da duck!
My Dad use to work in the building on top of MBK and he often took me to MBK for court and we always had Beef noodle (Rod dee ded) when you start to walk around i was wonder if you will walk pass the shop then boom its there can't believe after 35 years they still there. I always like their noodle it's very good brouth and good juicy beef. You should try next time if you visit MBK food court again.

I totally agree! It definitely depends what you order at Terminal 21 and at what time of day you go. Here, there’s loads of good stuff! I’m with you on the Icon decor
You miss a famous beef stall named “โป่วเทียมเฮง (Pow Tiam Heng)”. It’s the MBK Legend where the beef soup is in Clay pot originally and it was there since the food court opened 20-40 years ago . It’s actually first stall right next to the exchange kiosk. Please try next time. Love your good content!!! Thank you!
I remember it. I just commented about it also before I saw your post. It was the only meal I had there for maybe 10-15 years! I miss it. Do you or anyone know where I can get similar?
Pow Thiem Heng, the beef noodle shop in the very first stall right next to the coupon booth is still there. That the only shop I'll eat on MBK food court. I'm a picky guy when it comes to eating. I'm a Rad-na lover too. Lol I'm a kind of guy who hate to spend more expensive dishes for a common dish like Rad-na while there are tons of street food around but I have to say since I ate Rad-na in Thailand the most interesting and unique and very delicious for me is at "Kai-tong" restaurant, I really hate myself to say that because this place is really really expensive(450 just for Rad-na) but it's worth to try, stir fried chicken liver with garlic here is very good too.
@@theroamingcook ha ha ha, I'm not eating here often because of the price and feels a little shame to recommend the expensive restaurant to the food guy like you but the chef here is really on another level, hope you like their dishes. Where are all the people? I ate at MBK many times during my last visit (2016). It was hard to find a seat. All local people. Now its seems almost deserted. I understand that visitors have not come back, but where have the locals gone?
Youve made me hungry again mate!! Youll be running out of decent malls soon Gary. Have you been to that posh evening 'Jodd Fair' market next door to Rama 9? Could be a fun family expedition if Finn can stay up late lol
Haha, yeah I don’t plan on doing the malls for much longer! I did go but it was a bit early and not everything was open. Not really for me I have to be honest! My wife would love it though!
OMG! I was there 2 weeks ago and I didn't even know they had a food court on the 6th floor... I thought there was only one by the supermarket which was not impressive at all! I gotta go back again.
crispy pork is tasty huh Garry .. but they have a lot of good food in that place, I always like that food in those shopping malls. I also like that duck in that dark sauce.haha,i also like the boll of snot 😂
Only tried Rad Na once and wasn't a fan, but I shall endeavour to try it again in the future. Nice to see you back in the malls where you belong, duchess!
Do you have recommendations on where to eat a mean phad kee mao? Excluding Kay Fai (with all due respect). Thanks for the video, I assumed MBK would’ve died out by now due to the competition but happy to see it’s still going strong!
I never seen a lad na that gelatinous. I do notice some Thai and Laos restaurant in my neck of the woods (fort worth texas) do have thicker gravy in their lad na than the Vietnamese restaurants here. I been going to the same Vietnamese restaurant for lad na for the past 30 years cause they just do it better in the area and their gravy resembles more of traditional gravy westerners are familiar with. You are definitely right that some people cannot get past that consistency similar to the 1 you had.
Mr Gary Butler deserves a honournary degree in Thai cuisine, amazing 😊🙏
Thank you Oy khap 🙏🙏
Wow! I love your description and review of the roast duck rice! Made my mouth water! This is indeed a must try when at MBK Bangkok!

Definitely Mark. Any particular Big C or Lotus mate or just random ones?
@@theroamingcook the ones I went to were in On Nut which is not near you so maybe stores more local for yourself
Where are all the people? I ate at MBK many times during my last visit (2016). It was hard to find a seat. All local people. Now its seems almost deserted. I understand that visitors have not come back, but where have the locals gone?
Got there at 10 before the lunch rush ✌️
Youve made me hungry again mate!!
Youll be running out of decent malls soon Gary. Have you been to that posh evening 'Jodd Fair' market next door to Rama 9? Could be a fun family expedition if Finn can stay up late lol
Haha, yeah I don’t plan on doing the malls for much longer! I did go but it was a bit early and not everything was open. Not really for me I have to be honest! My wife would love it though!
I got the 3 meat combo from the same stall with Duck, Red pork and Crispy pork for 130 Baht. So tasty with that sauce
Glad you enjoyed it!
They offer the same combo all be it a little different at Terminal 21 for 40 baht. 🙂
With your recommendation I might try the Rad Na (spelling) cause that “snotty” sauce is definitely a turn off.
If you get past the texture you’ll be hooked. Maybe I didn’t use a great adjective to describe it!
Don't knock it until you try it. Delish~
Love the MBK !! Its been a while !
It’s a trip down memory lane every time
Best dish from MBK food court in my opinion is "Koa Ka Moo" Also "Uan Mak Mak Ka". 5555
mmmmmmm, I love khao kha moo!
All the food courts are good. Emporium and Central Pinklao are also ones i like. Views at Terminal 21 are great.
I'll go try Pinklao
@@theroamingcook I will be eating at Pinklao next week! Lol
wow your Thai accent is really good! Keep up the good content :)
thanks so much. It's not the best but I'm trying 555
The flour using in ราดหน้า is tapioca flour not corn flour, but you can use corn flour as a substitute.
Yes, I don't know why I though Yod Pak used rice flour but you are correct. I like cornflour for frying meat
เมื่อก่อนไปบ่อยมาก MBK คือที่สุดแล้ว ก่อนที่ ห้างใหม่ๆจะสร้างเพิ่มขึ้น
โอเคตกลงตามนั้น
I think terminal 21 is the best for what I’m looking for. But I’m going to look for a new food court at the newest malls on my next trip
There is something for everyone here 😀
Fab , thanks for sharing ..
My pleasure
OMG! I was there 2 weeks ago and I didn't even know they had a food court on the 6th floor... I thought there was only one by the supermarket which was not impressive at all! I gotta go back again.
Yeah that one at the bottom it’s great is it! For a food court, the 6th floor is decent
crispy pork is tasty huh Garry .. but they have a lot of good food in that place, I always like that food in those shopping malls. I also like that duck in that dark sauce.haha,i also like the boll of snot 😂
haha, it's toooooo tasty!
Only tried Rad Na once and wasn't a fan, but I shall endeavour to try it again in the future. Nice to see you back in the malls where you belong, duchess!
hahahaha, Roaming Malls...new channel name. You need to give it another shot fella
Great sharing Mr !!!
Thank you!

Mouth watering 🤤🤤
🤤🤤🤤🤤
What time does it open? I love breakfast and seems it’s not open early for breakfast. 😢
Do you have recommendations on where to eat a mean phad kee mao? Excluding Kay Fai (with all due respect).
Thanks for the video, I assumed MBK would’ve died out by now due to the competition but happy to see it’s still going strong!

555555
Home Pro Village Bang Na also has a good price food court if out that way
Going that way on Saturday thanks!
Interesting, I didn’t know Vietnamese had lad na. I thought it was just Thailand and Singapore! You learn something new every day!
love rad na!! all that gravy!!
Me too!
