I've been a game for about 40 years, I think the biggest thing is that non-gamers only see us sitting in front of the TV for hours and not "accomplishing" the normal stuff that normal people do. But my wife doesn't have a problem with it, so there!

Thanks you for sharing a wonderful vlog, it had a bit of everything, really entertaining to watch. I think gaming is looked down upon everywhere as a lot of people associate it as something you only do as a child. Once you get to a certain age people are like wha?! Slowly but surely people close themselves off to things they once found entertaining or possible, and gaming is 1 example. That's what I think anyway lol.

We have stigma around "gaming" here in Canada too. When I was growing up you get bullied for admitting you were a gamer. Older folks also look down on gaming as a lesser pasttime than TV. There were a few glory years in the early 2010 where gaming became mainstream and accepted, but before any controversies started appearing in the news. By 2017 "gamer" was a label with negative connotation again. The negative connotation mostly comes from American media and social media drama. It sucks, but we're kind of powerless to American culture bleeding across the border. We're a much less confrontational and divisive culture, but the negative attitudes in American media easily influence perception up here. I just keep my gaming hobby to myself nowadays. I post under this handle online, but even then I am careful about what and where I post.
Vok250 I’ve honestly never met anyone that had any hostility towards gamers. Maybe they just don’t say it to my face but pretty much everyone I know is a gamer and I was a jock in high school. Gaming is not looked at as a nerdy thing where I live, it’s as socially acceptable as going bike riding or mountain climbing. Just another hobby people have.
Billy Jack Might be an age thing. I know gaming is a lot more accepted by people 5-10 younger than me. My age group still has many who look down on gaming as something only losers do. I encounter it often.
Gaming is good for the brain!, helps with focus and dexterity to name a few. It helps me with my p.t.s.d. im 54 and have been a gamer since pong. Its good to see that more women play these days. Norway is definatley beautiful country and ur beautiful as well. I enjoy your insightful videos.

Excellent Video Irene! my friend actually went on a two week tour to Sweden and Norway! he said it was awesome! He was asked where from and said Vancouver Island B.C Canada! where we are from! and its unreal how many people in Norway know where it is! mainly for Victoria and then Tofino! but still lots of people he talked to in Norway knew where we are! blew my mind lol! and Steffen is awesome! also love Resident Evil 2 Remake!

I could be king and they would still look strange to me if I said that I like to play videogame... If I said that I love Nintendo so I would be deposed, because "Nintendo is only for the kids", there is bullshit.
Finally, here in Brazil there is a lot of prejudice about "playing video games"... There is prejudice and discrimination about everything, by the way, why would not there be about gamers?

I wonderful video with two amazing people sharing their day in Harstad. The view at the top of the mountain was extraordinary in its beauty. Thank you Steffen for the house tour. It was very cool and kind of you to do it. The whole time I felt relaxed and happy as if I were with two friends on a day out. Loved it. Ircha looked amazing . Emo ? No, I think those girls were just being catty.
On the topic of Gamers. I think it is as Steffen said .. its generational. In time as games become more technologically advanced they will become more mainstream. At some point in time instead of watching a movie we will all be playing in one.

Gotta be honest, I don't think gaming will ever become socially accepted by our society, I think it will always be looked down upon as something for nerdy losers :-(
By the way, we can all agree that Danish is better than Norwegian :P but hot daym your English sounds way better and more natural than when we Danes try to speak it. English with Danish accent sounds horrible, but with Norwegian accent it gets more charming. Know what I mean?
Gaming is more socially acceptable now than ever. Even pretty/ popular girls like Ircha play games now. It’s not just the land of the nerd anymore. It’s not a niche hobby- nearly everyone I know plays games in some form. I think our generation is the first where gaming is truly becoming accepted and it will become more so in the future.

Interesting topic considering average age of gamers is fully in the "too old to be irresponsible" category. Unfortunate that games, unlike other hobbies, are treated like an irresponsible waste of time. Attitudes are changing though.
Why do people judge people that are gamers? It’s the same as anything, for example why do people judge people that are cyclists and wear cycling attire? It’s because they are kind of jealous they can’t or don’t understand gaming or in my case cycling.
Everyone can game or exercise, it’s just having the motivation to start and the open mind to explore new things.

Gamers congregating secretly off-grid to plot the next world dominating task. I bet for most of those looking down their noses at gamers I could find:
a) people addicted to binge watching shows on their smartphone's tiny screen
b) people playing games (gasp) on their smartphones
c) people spending money on things they enjoy that gamers are distasteful about (we don't all like the same things)
d) people who don't understand that it's entertainment (easy to make them understand - if they watch TV or listen to music; they say that's different. Find the genre of TV or music they'd NEVER watch/listen and say, "but that's TV/music - you should like that!"
e) morons who believe video games make people violent (based on a media misreporting an event - do a little research).
