The number one gambling addiction fact that you should know is that gambling is NOT just a financial problem. Some problem gamblers do not have financial issues even though they may lose money gambling. Gambling is an emotional issue where a person feels the need to gamble to alleviate stress or because they feel a certain type of euphoria when they gamble. Gambling is an obsession that can take over your life if you let it go too far, this can lead to the loss of relationships, jobs, and, yes, finances, but the issue behind compulsive gambling is not financial, it is emotional.
Best post yet. I have slight problem with gambling my time away. Last vacation I spent about 25 hours of my trip gambling. I won about $50 total, which is peanuts. Not worth my time. I overdid it. Wasted prime hours I could have been enjoying the sites.
Yes. Even if you don´t lose significant amount of money, you lose time. You can never get time back. Compulsive gambling is exactly that, compulsive. You don´t even want to do it, you want to stop but you just can´t.
"Responsible gambling". Tell that to the thousands of addicts who are suicidal because they can't stop, who can't step out of that vicious circle even if they can't pay their bills.
By their calculations there are only 50 problem gamblers out of every 10000 gamblers, I find it hard to believe, they don't even realise what a problem gambler is, I used to deposit large sum of money into online accounts and lost it all and never once did they contact me to ask if I had a problem
She needs help. Gambling ruined my dads life, in the end it contributed to his death as he lost that much he resorted to theft, he drank, he smoked and he did it more and more as he lost that much he could never repair the damage he had caused he ended up with nothing and lived a lie for a long time. The signs were there but we never spotted them. I am so angry about it all really but I cant change the past, I am talking at least 500k lost via his addiction, even when it came out he continued to live his lie. I watched him pass away this year and in a way I was glad that his soul may find some peace. Gambling consumed him. It must be one of the worst addictions to live with but a gambler lives two lives and can hide it.
I’ve lost 3.5k $$$ and I’m 15, I have a problem, I’m Suicidal because of how much that I’ve lost from stealing from my parents and older sister. The worst feeling is when you’re out of money walking to your car realizing that you know you fucked up and think about all the other things you could’ve bought/done and still knowing deep down you’ll be back. Or you’ll have a good amount of money on you in a store and you choose not to spend it on things that you like because you’d rather gamble. I quit gambling but I remember one day having 2k on me in a store and deciding not to spend 500-600$ on new nice stuff for my house because in my head “I didn’t have the money” but when I went to the casino that night I gambled away all of it without a second thought till I saw my wallet was empty and I walked out the doors.
I feel the same.. €5K in gambling feels like dust, yet buying nice clothing or book a nice holiday feels to expensive.. The mind of a gambling addict works in strange ways.. I am working on it right now so I can move away from this everlasting depressive way of living.

Icyboy771z. but can't you see that thats exactly how they want you to think? - its not about you winning or losing, its about you continuously investing your time and money in it. They sell the fake illusion of you being rich and wealthy is somehow going to make you truly happy and satisfied with yourself. but the sad fact is most people that win the lottery end up wasting it all instead, start to take drugs, or in many cases even committing suicide. there is no winning in this. just you paying for false hope or total destruction.

They have to win the money to pay bills, even though they had it. Just missed, just missed, just missed. Bored yet? Gamblers aren’t. Machines hypnotise stupid people, thats what they are designed to do, by very clever mathematicians. Indirect taxing on people who had money they did not earn really. Thats why they give it up. Ponsi scheme though. These fools are a dying breed. Sport betting is the future. They know this. Gaming much? Sucker? Bet on a dog, better chance of winning.
I cured (yes cured) my gambling addiction by replacing it with another and much cheaper addiction, video games. As the daughter of a professional poker player, I can tell you that gambling addictions are so serious and incredibly difficult to work on. Especially in a game like poker where the person can be completely convinced bc of their skill level they are winning more than they lose. My dad has been absent most of my life bc he’s been stuck at a poker table, having more than $3mil in reported tournament wins yet he’s homeless today and he can’t seem to build himself back up bc he’s pouring all of his money into the casino. There was never any sort of stability during my childhood it was one day the power is shut off and the next day he’s buying a brand new Porsche. It’s incredibly dysfunctional

I started gambling at age 21. I'm now 47 and have been gambling since all those years. I have made lots of money with good jobs and worked crappy jobs as well. I came down to a conclusion money ain't everything but the fun of gambling is and don't care how much money I make, just as long I can make money and still gamble. At 47 years old I'm negative in life from gambling. Never have hit a big jackpot neither. For all those that are thinking of starting I totally recommend please DON'T start. @@SK-gp6cm I started because a friend of mine saw an ad for a casino online and bet 10€ which was the minimum and won 230€ on a slot machine but then, logically, lost it all. I wanted to try it out too so I entered to play Blackjack and Roulette and won 160€ profit by making mini bets of 50 cents or 1€ but suddenly I went on a losing streak and lost 200€ (so my balance became -40€) by martingaling. I canceled my account which is an amazing feature that blocks you from ever creating an account again. However I decided to create another account to try and get back those 40€. I was up 20€ and became like -50€ and did 2 stupid bets out of impatience but at least it payed and I got +5€ in that session. I know -35€ balance in total i pretty good but I just think every day about getting it back but I know that if I get it back I'll want to win the original 160€ I won and I'll forever be stuck here. uruguayan bob that's kind of the point though mate, some people can not control that side of things. It's easy to say "just have more self control" but for some it's not that straightforward. I have a pretty bad gambling problem, I'm not looking for sympathy of any kind because I believe in personal responsibility. But I can tell you that in just over a year since my problem got out of control, I do not feel like the same person I was before.
Somehow adverts of tobacco and alcohol are banned for many years now. The same should happen with gambling, and there should be more regulations on opening new casinos and bookies, as these addiction is probably more destructive and it hits vulnerable people...
Gambling ads are for some reason permitted, with personalities participating in them. They think it is OK to do it if they just mention "responsible gambling" or refer to a gambling addiction help website , all written with very small letters at the end of the ad, so they can excuse themselves in case people get addicted.
Only a few countries have banned alcohol advertising to the same extent as tobacco. But a lot more have starting regulating it. I'm personally indifferent to alcohol ads (beer companies have been so prominent in sports, festivals etc. that I've long been desensitized to it) but I can understand why others like recovering alcoholics would take issue. Gambling ads just anger me though, I had so many on TH-cam I had to turn them off on Google. I don't ever remember them being so common until the last couple of years.
There's no such thing as responsible gambling. The moment you start, you're with a very high potential of throwing away money. Casinos are DESIGNED to make sure you don't win as much as possible, how the hell do you think they stay afloat?
I work with a gambling addict at my job who says he won $1,200 after only putting $20 in recently. This same person always tells me how he always loses a ton of money gambling. Does the $1,200 he won outweigh the thousands of dollars he has lost over the years? I don't think so.

I just got back from a 4 night stay in Vegas and I was amazed at how many people in the casinos just pour hundreds and hundreds of dollars into the machines.. The most ive ever gambled was $100 and i completely hated it because I lost my money. That being said I can’t put even $1.00 into those machines and watch it take it away from me, I grab a beer and just walk around and see how people just play and that’s enough for me.. After half a year of gambling, i can say that most of gambling is about not taking responsibility for your financial problems and trying to test your luck (which will lead to further attempts to test your luck until you run out of luck ofcourse). I genuinly made some big wins, but i've lost those wins as well. It messes with your brain, last week i was gambling and the longer i kept playing the more reckless my bets became. I had essentially doubled my starting amount, but i was like "oh highest score hasn't been reached since yesterday" so i kept playing and guess what i lost it all. Afterwards i was obviously like "i should have just cashed out". This is one of many examples why you shouldn't gamble, it isn't worth it unless you plan on losing the money and just having a good time with your mates. Gambling will leave you with regrets, thats the only guarantee from Gambling.
Gambling leads to one path, and one path only. Destruction. Even if you win a jackpot of several millions all is going back. The addiction gets stronger then. People won jackpots and ended up on the streets.
Underrated addiction. I've lost millions with an "s" over a 20+ year span. Don't be me, don't gamble, winning is the worst thing that can happen for some people that's the start to the addiction.
@@YZ450f24 If you're talking about blackjack, then, as a croupier, I can tell you that learning how to count cards is pathetically easy. It's essentially 4th grade maths. The hardest part is memorizing basic strategy and rules of deviation from it.

I’m a gambling addict. Pay day was 5 days ago. Mortgage, council tax, water, gas and electric bills came out. Got mobile and car insurance yet to come out this month. Gives me enough money for food for the month and money for whatever else. However that money for whatever else I’ve already lost to roulette online today.... I don’t even like gambling but I do it almost every month because I tell myself I can win money back. I’m really selfish and stupid and I genuinely don’t like who I am anymore.
That money was stolen from you by fake illusions and sponsored by the government. Don't ne so hard on yourself. Let IT go, but you're not greedy , it's the casinos that are greedy. Making billions and driving people into homelesness. Stop blaming yourself for wanting some of your money back! I gave casinos 150 k through my life, when I needed a 6 k win to get myself out of serious trouble, do you think they put out? Gave me 4% of what I had given them?? Nooo! So stop the blame about greed and never give money to these wretched legalized monsters.
Three years ago, when I was a student, I rent a room and lived alone. I started to play game out of sheer boredom and I promptly addicted to it. I had tried in vain to quit it for almost one year until I found support from my family. Though game, I think, is much easier to quit than gambling, I partialy understand how addicts feel. And I think that to quit something like games, alcohol, gambling, etc we definitely need help from others( family, friends, partners, doctor and psychologist). It's nearly impossible to do it by yourself. We need a supportive community because this is a hard challenge, a very long journey to go. Hope you can find your right support and successfully overcome this.

It took me losing over 250k to realize I had an issue. And being at the bottom now I have no choice but to stop. This addiction has stopped me from being able to build a life, I’ve been unable to maintain relationships, and become reclusive or resulted to lying in instances where I have to explain my financial situation. I'm losing my life to this addiction. I have been hoping for the big win since I was 13 years old. (I played scratch tickets then) I had a chance at 100,000 but I didn't place the side bet. I think I have been chasing that possibility for 8 years now and it hurts because I have wasted so much life in this place. Yet I can't seem to drop it, I always lie to myself and I end up back there doing what I have always been doing. I have asked for support from my family but they don't offer me the support I need. I try to us sheer will power but yet I slip up. I try to use logic but I end up telling myself lies. It has been the single most worse thing I have been doing in this life of mine. I've been gambling since i was 17 and I'm 23 now nearly 24 it's the worst thing ever, last night i lost £680 ....the thing i feel numb about everything now
My first jackpot was whilst I was sat in a pushchair. The game was called Winspin. My brother got me to press gamble from 4p all the way to £1.50p. I spent all my youth in arcades and on piers. When I started getting my own money, it would go in fruit machines. I hit my rock bottom and did the gambler's anonymous thing. After that I learned one thing and it's the only lesson I can give to managing gambling. If you are addicted to it, give someone else the charge of your money. Don't even give yourself the opportunity to handle it yourself. You will always talk yourself into spending some. I gamble responsibly now by being ashamed. I give my money to my wife and once a month I say "Can I have £20 for some slots?" and she gives it to me. If I handled my own money, I wouldn't have a wife.
I’m a casino dealer in AC, there is such a thing as responsible gambling for all you people claiming there isn’t. Gamble for fun not to win, if you win then that’s a nice bonus, stay strict to your losing limit but also stay strict to your winning limit so you don’t give it back. I see plenty of people gamble responsibly and I see plenty of people bet my entire paycheck on a blackjack hand and that scream at ME when they lose. That’s addiction and that’s unhealthy. Alcohol ruins lives, not when you drink it responsibly however.

The only way to stop gambling is to prevent any access to money, it should be controlled by someone else, not by you - once you're blocked from any means of gambling then you can start to slowly regain control ... also depositing money in fixed savings account that cannot be reopened until maturity date is also an option to put money away from you.

I find gambling absolutely boring and wasteful. I've worked in a casino for 6 years and I've never had the urge to gamble. I'm 100% convinced that it's not gambling itself that is addicting, it's a personality trait that makes it a problem. Perspective is a hell of a thing.
I have a problem with gambling, the solution is to reduce how often and to not gamble, with any addiction winding off it in steps can help more then jumping. You never win, its not even the winning that feels good, its the chase.
@@vijaymishra1008 There’s probably some that do cheat people, no way to know for sure. He gets paid $1mil per month, so they are making more than that off of him, or else they wouldn’t pay that much. Also, if you are winning too much, in real casinos, they kick you out. Would not be surprised if that happens in online gambling as well. The house always wins, even if they have to kick some gamblers out to do it. I said to myself that was a one time thing and now I will be smarter, but it didn't work out that way of course. First, I didn't manage to get going at all and spent a few hundred stupidly. Then I got going again, made a few hundred and again had a bad day and wasted it all. I took a year long break after that and now at 21 I promised myself not to do the same, made a few hundred, but did the same again today. In total I have wasted about 1K in deposits and 2K in earnings just because when I'm having a bad day I have no self control.

I think it's impossible for gamblers to get out of it completely. But how about replacing it? You could trade funded accounts for example. Your spendings will be limited, but your upside is unlimited. But only if you follow the rules. You can satisfy the need for gambling but in contrary to gambling it's not just luck. You can actually gain an edge. All you gambling addicts, I am telling you, try trading instead.
My grandma lost 38k last year to gambling. Feeds 20 after 20 into machines or plays round after round of bingo. Some people lose everything to the casinos.
Well, the thing is that the gambling industry blames the person for getting addicted (so they say gamble responsibly and yata yata). But the real truth is that they design these machines according to human psychology to make it as addictive as possibly. They bombard us with commercials and false promises and then blame the addict for getting addicted when they have made something that is addictive.
Ive been gambleing for over 6 years... And i habe never been addicted... I might put £10 doen online once a week or go casino with £50 etc but i cash out my wins and play low stakes.
I won 2 grand at a casino 1 year ago and ive been back about 4 times with £50 and lost but one of the 4 times i left with £150 so im well up and dont feel the need to go back any time soon
you are right on the spot. They created those machines to keep you playing until you have nothing left to play with. they create problem gamblers with the illusion that you can win. that s terrible. they should put more restrictions.
Like any gambling game, odds are on the house. The more rounds you play, the more likely you will lose your money. On computer roulette, each round lasts 20-30 seconds. At live roulette in a casino, each round takes a minute or more, since the cashier has to collect & give out chips and players have to place chips. So in 30 minutes, you can play ~60 rounds on a FOBT, vs. ~20 rounds at the casino table. 3x more times to lose your money, and 3x more likely to get addicted.
I believe that it's mainly a way of coping with childhood trauma, such as physical and sexual abuse, which is the case with EVERY SINGLE PERSON I've known in regard to gambling issues! I've found that alcohol and other drug issues are often factors as well and it's totally understandable that people want to numb their pain and block out memories in whatever way is possible. 🙁
It can be any type of an addiction, not just the heavy ones like alcohol, drugs, sex, pornography, substance abuse. You can also be addicted to binge eating, binge watching tv/series, or be non stop scrolling reels on your phone...

Gambling is just as, if not more addictive than doing drugs. I know of several people having big issues with gambling, and if you get hooked, lives will get destroyed.
Just turned 21 yesterday January 31st and went to the casino for the first time. I always thought I would hate the casino due to the fact that I don't like losing or spending money. The next day I was so hyped I had an adrenaline rush to go back and spend money . I left with a Profit so in my eyes I won. However, when I was leaving I could feel myself getting upset because I wanted to stay and win more. I hope that is not a sign or a symptom of gambling addiction.
I’m currently 22 going into 23 this March and I can I sure you that’s how it’s starts brother . The moment you start feeling that rush is when you know you’re in trouble. I would stay away from it before it becomes a horrible habit for you as well.
Especially the part where MRI shows no difference on brain activity between the reality/ reward/ winning vs anticipation...which actually results in a person getting hooked....
I work at a casino and what I've realized is the pooer people spend all their money there but the wealthier people are usually the ones with the problems
I’ve lost 3.5k $$$ and I’m 15, I have a problem, I’m Suicidal because of how much that I’ve lost from stealing from my parents and older sister. I’m suicidal because I don’t want to have to face my family when they find out, and I don’t know what to do for help, do I be honest or try and hide it, I just wish I didn’t hav this problem and I could just be gone. I know what I’m doing is bad but I can’t stop myself. I NEED HELP BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
Gambling is dangerous. I won one of my first ever football bets a few years ago, £1700 from £2. That got me started betting, and in the past two years I have placed atleast one bet pretty much every single day. In the past year, I have lost around £700, which, while not insane money, could have been spent on many other things. Today alone I have lost £150. Some people have it way way worse than myself. It's hard not to chase money, but the earlier you can calm it down a bit, the better.
I lost £850 on a football bet. Within a few months I'd lost over £2,000. I've become more responsible and have managed to get a few hundred back but I still need to win back another £1,750. I have a note on my phone to keep track of how much I need to get back
Just think that if you continue you will not only lose money but everything good you have in your life. A family member of mine lost every thing he had, his market, his restaurant, his car and every good relationship he had, his family is destroyed especially his parents and his wife, he also has two kids and they always keep asking where’s daddy’s car and other things, that’s the worst thing you could do to your family and yourself, I guess what’s left for him to do is suicide and he has mentioned that a lot. Ok this is a long text but this is what happened to him. I hope this doesn’t happen to you and just remember that YOU ARE MAKING RICH SOME PEOPLE WITHOUT THEM GIVING YOU anything in return, so basically you are burning money you could spend for yourself or your family. Anyway, I hope you quitted

Gambling is just losing confidence, losing mental stability, financial pressure increase and many more. People who are getting addicted to it ...must come out of this by leaving the RECOVERY mentality. Then only one can step towards progress
When you go to a casino don't play anything that has negative expected value, play something like Texas hold em where your expected value can be positive depending on your ability and the casino's rake
Gambling is an obsession that can take over your life if you let it go too far, this can lead to the loss of relationships, jobs, and, yes, finances, but the issue behind compulsive gambling is not financial, it is emotional.
and your own life!!!

In that case those people aren't responsibly gambling. Sorry you can't wrap something that simple around your head, dummy. :)
Oh my this is how my friend is. When she loses a lot she feels suicidal.

Somehow adverts of tobacco and alcohol are banned for many years now. The same should happen with gambling, and there should be more regulations on opening new casinos and bookies, as these addiction is probably more destructive and it hits vulnerable people...
xirilla the first thing that came up on utube here was the poker machine add. Ironic.
Gambling ads are for some reason permitted, with personalities participating in them. They think it is OK to do it if they just mention "responsible gambling" or refer to a gambling addiction help website , all written with very small letters at the end of the ad, so they can excuse themselves in case people get addicted.
alcohol adverts should not be banned because alcohol is culture and fun. But tobacco and gambling absolutely, yes
I don't ever remember them being so common until the last couple of years.
but addicts have not stopped drinking and smoking.
There's no such thing as responsible gambling.
The moment you start, you're with a very high potential of throwing away money. Casinos are DESIGNED to make sure you don't win as much as possible, how the hell do you think they stay afloat?

I'm stupid too, can't stop going to casino " I lost my soul...
Nooo! So stop the blame about greed and never give money to these wretched legalized monsters.

you have 2 options: gamble and lose family, hope, life, everything or don't gamble and be succesfull and enjoy life. Simple.
for real
It really isn't that simple. If life was that simple there would be no such thing as addictions.

I’m not proud of this at all, but it takes accepting that I have an issue to even begin to start rebuilding my life.

I am a hard core addict and if I don't rid myself of this now I will be alone. I will lose everything! I am such a fool for believing the lie that I will some day make it out if I just hit that big jackpot. I feel so sick. If I don't quit now I will be in hell!

Forgive yourself and move on. Do not gamble in the future and you'll be fine. Never look back unless you plan on going there.

Gambling is a horrible addiction.
The only way to stop gambling is to prevent any access to money, it should be controlled by someone else, not by you - once you're blocked from any means of gambling then you can start to slowly regain control ... also depositing money in fixed savings account that cannot be reopened until maturity date is also an option to put money away from you.

There’s probably some that do cheat people, no way to know for sure. Some hire TH-camrs and Twitch streamers without saying they’re hired, then they up their odds tremendously to make winning looking easy and common.
XQc is a Twitch streamer who gets paid $1mil per month to gamble (with a gambling budget in addition to the $1mil per month I believe). He gets paid $1mil per month, so they are making more than that off of him, or else they wouldn’t pay that much.
Also, if you are winning too much, in real casinos, they kick you out. Would not be surprised if that happens in online gambling as well. I think it's impossible for gamblers to get out of it completely. But how about replacing it? You could trade funded accounts for example. Your spendings will be limited, but your upside is unlimited. But only if you follow the rules. You can satisfy the need for gambling but in contrary to gambling it's not just luck. Well, the thing is that the gambling industry blames the person for getting addicted (so they say gamble responsibly and yata yata). But the real truth is that they design these machines according to human psychology to make it as addictive as possibly. They bombard us with commercials and false promises and then blame the addict for getting addicted when they have made something that is addictive.

you are right on the spot. They created those machines to keep you playing until you have nothing left to play with. they create problem gamblers with the illusion that you can win. that s terrible. they should put more restrictions.
People are responsible for their own decisions.

The biggest winner for a gambler is quit and stop gambling
Gambling is dangerous. I won one of my first ever football bets a few years ago, £1700 from £2. That got me started betting, and in the past two years I have placed atleast one bet pretty much every single day. In the past year, I have lost around £700, which, while not insane money, could have been spent on many other things. Today alone I have lost £150.
Some people have it way way worse than myself. It's hard not to chase money, but the earlier you can calm it down a bit, the better.
Thats the stage I dont want to get to, because one loss is a lot of money!
I lost £850 on a football bet. Within a few months I'd lost over £2,000. I've become more responsible and have managed to get a few hundred back but I still need to win back another £1,750. I have a note on my phone to keep track of how much I need to get back
samcdigweed STOP right now... Period. Please.

I am a betting and gambling addict...this industry has RUINED ME completely!!
I would advise everyone to abstain from betting and gambling.
I'm struggling with gambling addiction at the moment I seriously need to get out of it.
No one can help you except yourself. Thats the true nature of it. The day will come if you want it.
