I decided to make a video for Earthbound references in this. Like I say near the end, there are more minor ones (like returning enemies and such), but I just put out the ones I found stood out more.
That's another possibility, but then they most likely did it to make it a bit more like an actual localization (so that when giving it to Nintendo for official localization work they'd give them less work).

In Little Miss Marshmellow's room, you forgot another reference: Theres a little toy robot laying on the ground which looks just similar like the playable robots in the Cave of the Past.
The scene where you fly through the sky in a refrigerator and crash at the Tazmily cemetery is another obvious reference to the Sky Runner from EB. Even the same music plays
Back in Earthbound, there was this funny magazine you could read in the rinky dink house way West in Onett if you buy it, and that same story that Lucas reads is in the drawer. Best story of all time. cx

Because he can’t time travel any more. He says it himself. Porky has messed with the timeline so much, that he’s permanently stuck in the Nowhere Islands. He probably used the phase distorter to time travel initially, but it’s pretty much useless to him after he lost his time traveling powers.

Porky having all this stuff makes me think he is just depressed he can't let go what he did and made this whole thing to relive the world he wished he had but making himself the popular one. Just really sad

I'm making a fangame myself, (though not Mother) but I'm not considering it canon and shoving it down people's throats as a real installment of the series, unlike what most people are doing with Mother 4. Fangames are more like a 'for-fun' kinda thing. Otherwise, I'm fine with the Mother 4 fangame, I think it looks cool and if I have time I might play it, but I hate how it's glorified by everybody and treated as canon.

EB's Localization made them pencils instead, for some reason. My best guess is that they based Mother 3 out of EarthBound and not Mother 2.
