sounds really healthy... Even on the video I can Hear the crisp sound of the engine sipping fuel. Nice job Man
Thank you! Lots left to do yet lol
People love to hate on these detroits. I always loved them in humvees over the years. Seem some clapped out shitbox humvees start instantly and purr after sitting for months assuming the battery had a charge.
I had one for about a year. Wouldn’t pull the hat off your head it was so weak. Only thing that kinda saved it was 456 gears but then it would only run 65 downhill. The one upside is you can’t kill em but o think I’ll stick with a 350
Like putting lip stick on a pig man ! Love it . These trucks are bad to the bone , I don’t know why people hate em so much
Nice, running great!
I love how healthy this engine is
You and me both.
She gets nothing but the best and loves it! I always say, "Preventative Maintenance is the best Maintenance".
Very beautiful and clean and reliable ❤️
Thank you!
I like the gold touches to the engine, reminds me of the Oldsmobile rocket, with added turbo.
👍
Ya I felt it would look good on the old Square and give the engine bay a vintage classic truck feel.
I can hear the block cracking from here lol
Lol not this engine. Lowered Compression Ratio and it's a 81' Red Block. She be solid.
Fucking sweet man just got my first 6.2 Detroit diesel and I love it .
Welcome to the 6.2 crew!
That is fucking SWEET!!!!
Thx man!
Very clean running idi
dual pull cdrs are a must when pushing that much air. My 6.5 wouldn't let the turbo drain unless i ran two with my setup.
That’s SICK!
She sounds dialed in you can hear it better at idle, buttery smooth. Very well done and unique, I love it.
Thank you!
Beautiful to see and to hear ❤
Thank you!
@@TheAscendedMaster you're welcome!
Greetings from Croatia! 🙋♂️
Sounds great! Almost like a VGT the way it whistles so early in the RPM range
Thx! Ya I have done some work to the Turbo to improve flow but it is a Super 60 so it's naturally loud.
Right on.
What in the holy 6.2 turbo diesel we got here 😂
Would love to know what youve done to it. Man what a damn beautiful truck!
Getting one myself today.
Thank you and congratulations! They are great rigs to own. Check out the upgrades compilation videos I have on my channel to see the different updates and upgrades I've done.
@@TheAscendedMaster oh sweet! I'm absolutely gonna check them out! Thank you man!
@@josephhill7072 You got it!
Nice job bruh🎉
Thank you!
That’s fucking insane
Stumbled on your stuff today T-shooting my CUCV J code dying 5-10sec after cold starts out of nowhere on my '84 M1008...BAD A$$
Awesome. Check your lift pump, fuel filters, fuel hose & lines for any leaks.
how many blades you running that turbine wheel?.... maybe 9 blade, maybe 5 blade, either way it sounds really good 👍
Thx. It's a 7 Blade 60mm.
No issue with exhaust getting in the cab with the exhaust being so short?
Oh yes lol I can't drive with the windows down as it washes back up into the cab and is really loud. I do need to bring it further back to the rear tire to eliminate both issues.
noice
Looks very professional, but how did you compensate for the extra air?
Turning pump up increases the fuel by lengthening the time fuel is injected ( degrees of rotation) and anything beyond around 32 degrees is wasted.
Is it a 6.5 pump?
Bigger elements would be ideal, the pump has 2 I believe, they pump at same time, as the assembly rotates, you probably know all this though.🥸😁
I always wanted a 6.2.
I live in UK, a friend had one in a land rover, to us they were offered as conversion kits but they had a bed reputation for reliability......
I want to put one in a small British market car?
More air needs more fuel so yes I turned the pump up some. It takes a while to get everything adjusted and tuned together properly for it to work in sync efficiently and effectively but eventually its perfect. I have a 4153HD db2 pump which has worked wonderfully for the past 8 years. I have thought of getting a db2 4911 pump but honestly I don't need it. The pump I have gives me plenty of power and great fuel economy without having the fuel maxed out which I've never actually done yet cause I just don't need it. Im not drag racing but daily driving it so I need longevity and efficiency over power.
Does the turbo sound different or is it just the video?
Should sound different. I completely ported and polished it as well as the Downpipe Adapter.
The 6.2 was a good dependable engine, which I believe turned into the 6.5 which diminished its reliability. Also, the 6.2 was not a detroit diesel although it is a GM product.
The 1982 6.2 was designed by Detroit Diesel for GM.
@@TheAscendedMasterI drive one every day, 1982 Chevrolet C10, had it since it was new, 937,000 Mi on it right now, body of truck is in excellent shape no rust .all that has been done on it is oil pan gaskets, rear main seal, several water pumps, valve job, 1 injector pump, in about 50 or 60 starters, starters are junk thank God their lifetime, I've had just about enough on starters think I'm going to find me a gear reduction starter.
Three junk 700 R4 Transmissions.
I use it on the ranch nowadays very little road driving, if I Road drive it and keep it under 70 I get around 24 Mi to gallon.
Would you be willing to build another one and how much would you charge for the engine build
Sounds fun but honestly I'm disabled and can barely care for myself anymore and keeping my old girl running takes what little energy I have left.
Looks like I'll be rebuilding mine in the next few weeks, any upgrades I should do while she's taken apart? It's already got the banks kit on it with a j code intake.
There are always upgrades and updates that can be done just depends on how much you want to spend. Turbocharged using a j code intake can't be done unless you plugged off the ports on the side. Has to be a 6.5 Turbo Intake or off a Military engine.
@@TheAscendedMaster it has the ports plugged, i bought her with it like that. what do you think had the best bang for the buck? I'm thinking I might polish and possibly port some things like you did.
@@RatsnRods Oh ok good then. Porting is useful same with Polishing when done right.
@@TheAscendedMaster what would you recommend be done? I don't want to spend too much but willing to put a lil bit into her
@@RatsnRods I would honestly suggest that you focus on trouble prone areas first. I.e. Harmonic Balancer, Fuel System, Head Bolts, Glow Plugs, pre cups, cooling ect before attempting any other mods. But it all comes down to you and how much you want to do and spend.
wooooooooooooooow !
That's what I said lol
Is the red filter for coolant?
It is a Coolant Filter kit yes.
Beautiful. Injector timing seems to be dialed right the F in. I don't see any leaks, you got any oil in that damn Detroit? 😅
Thank you. She's a solid girl and doesn't leak a thing.
@TheAscendedMaster Impressive. I've got a pretty clean 6.5td Silverado, but it marks its territory! This thing is china cabinet clean, and sounds like a P400. Nice work. Gonna check out your other vids.
@@mcalvert1000 I appreciate that! Ya I have lots of content on my work and upgrades others can learn from and is definitely worth checking out.
I have a 6.2 in my humvee but no where near that kinda power lol
Ya she's a bit of a Frankenstein build lol
Engine bay clean as fuck, interior, trashed, lol Sweet rig dude.
I always focus on what is most important first which for an old truck like this which is everything mechanical then I'll work on the cosmetics.
4" exhaust? Sounds nasty
Ya buddy!
Is that one of those Olds diesel engines
Definitely not. It is a 6.2/6.5 Turbo Detroit Diesel.
Where do you come up with your crap?
Why doyou want it to be so loud?
I've always liked to hear the exhaust on my vehicles as it helps me know just how the engine is running by the sound. I suppose I also like to be a menace to society and wake everyone up in the neighborhood with my 42 year Detroit Diesel and dragstrip type exhaust lol
Engine clean af and rest of the car looks trash lmao😂👌🏻
Lol Just the way I want it too.
@@TheAscendedMaster Its ok man if you like it like that its fine👍🏻
@@Jean_1999that's how it is done around here
It's not a car.
The pickup looks great.
now it needs air conditioning.
I thought about it but honestly I live in Oregon and it isn't hot enough long enough for me to want to. I was thinking if I needed too of just getting an RV air conditioner/ heater unit and mounting it through the roof of my camper shell and call it good.
What turbo is that? Is all that sound from porting? Im curious cause im porting heads in next few days.
Quadstar Super 60. I think between the Heads, Intake and Turbo being Ported, the 4" side dump exhaust and fuel increased is what gives it its unique sound.
