    In the original movie, Norman was complicit in the Goblin's rampage and was highly neglectful of Harry which made it hard to sympathize with Peter 2's decision to honor his promise to not tell Harry how he actually died
    Which is why I'm happy NWH fixes this by showing Norman trying to cut out the Goblin and, after being reduced to homelessness, all he can think about now is seeing his son again

    • @IncredibleFulk1
      @IncredibleFulk1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I feel like Tobey (Peter 2) kept his promise for Harry’s sake rather than Norman’s.
      Plus, I always felt like Norman did love Harry in his own way. Mostly because of his “ Do you know how much I sacrificed!?” line which also implies that time with Harry was one of those Sacrifices. But that’s just me.

      Back then it wasn't popular yet to have villains with more than one side to their personality.
      It was easier to just make him a greedy business man losing it and making a deal with the devil. That doesn't work anymore, the audience demands more facettes from their bad guys now.
      Which is a good thing.

    • @Gadget-Walkmen
      @Gadget-Walkmen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s not true at all as Peter 2 shouldn’t have told Harry that his dad was a super villain and killed a bunch of people and was going to kill even more innocent people like MJ, the girl that both Peter AND Harry liked. This should be obvious TO sympathize with him with here.
      That’s a good enough reason TO sympathize with Peter 2’s decision as no one wants to tell their best friend that they’re father is an evil person.

      Fun fact, original drafts of Spider-Man 3 had Harry knowing the entire time. The butler scene would’ve opened to a wider shot with Harry being completely alone. Bernard had been gone a while more than likely. Harry was the one to clean the wound and realize who his father was that night, and he couldn’t cope, so he suppressed the memory. It would make sense because in reality Norman left a HUGE trail to himself as GG. Being the only one with access to different tech stolen, the board members firing him and immediately getting killed, etc. and although Sandman mentioning everyone knew of GG as Norman was probably a retcon for this movie, in the og scripts that was in fact the original intent.

  • @berniethecat8839

    Norman is a good man, we can see how vulnerable and scared he is in this scene. Despite being a scientist and a strategic person in some cases, he’s lost and has no idea what to do in a universe that’s not his own. Just imagine how he’s feeling, going to a universe almost similar to his own without warning, seeing he doesn’t exist and that his life, his own son, mean nothing there, it probably broke him mentally.

      I mean, it'd be like if you were up and plucked from your universe and ended up being put in a different universe pretty much. Everyone you ever cared about doesn't exist. Everything you've ever known, gone. You are living but you don't exist. It'd destroy anyone mentally.

      Lol what? Norman is NOT a “good man” AT ALL, he’s a corrupted businessman who has problems with son and the people around him. Just because he’s scared and vulnerable in this scene, doesn’t mean he was a good person before hand. Use common sense here as Norman ultimately IS an evil person that caused the Goblin persona to come out and kill a bunch of in on wit people. He’s not a “gOoD mAn” AT ALL, you’re just being overly emotional and sappy.
      He was pure evil but he’s FAR from being a “saint” or a “good man” AT ALL as he’s had multiple showings he’s not much of a good person to the people around him or even his son that much as he neglects him.
      And it just looks like your being sappy and projecting your overly emotional feelings out here.

    The moment Norman says he saw Spiderman is when he was plucked from his presupposed timeline. Also, I'm not suprised with the tattered purple hoodie he (still) wears later on, as that references both his comics-accurate style & the one he wore in the burning building.

    • @gabethebabe3337

      He was likely taken while on his way to May's house. The spell pulled the characters around the time they each learn Peter is Spider-Man while they have their powers and costumes. When Norman found out Peter was Spider-Man his first thought was to go after May...Who's he with in this scene? May...
      The only one who is hard to explain is Electro, but my thought is that because the TASM movies revolved around the conspiracies around Peter and his parents at Oscorp, and Max was absorbing data from Oscorp, Electro found out just before he died in TASM 2.
      Lizard is easy he found out in the sewer with the camera. He does mention his device, which is a continuity error for some, but it's possible he just took context clues from Max saying what his future plan was and believed in his own future idea.
      Otto was pulled as soon as he grabbed Tobey by the neck after he was originally cured (Tobey didn't calm him down yet so he's still out of control and paranoid)
      Sandman is handled poorly in my eyes because he fights Peter even though he's supposed to have been taken after the Venom fight where Harry died. I personally think it would have been better thematically if he was taken the moment Tobey (with the Symbiote) mentioned Ben Parker. This would have been better because it would explain his reluctance to go back because he knows the other villains were killed in fights with Spider-Man and that fight with symbiote Spider-Man was Peter out for blood.
      I just wanted to further elaborate on the idea of when these guys were pulled. Venom fucks with all this unfortunately, but I do have a theory behind that mess even if I think it's kinda dumb.

    • @gabbpolicarpio1236
      @gabbpolicarpio1236 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Gabe_The_Babe, have u not heard the evidence before u?!
      1. He said he saw Spiderman, then was pulled out of his timeline & into the MCU.
      2a. The Goblin was in control at the time, as he deduced it there. Norman, however, finds out ONLY when he takes back control (of his body) and unmasks himself.
      2b. This means that around the time Norman was transported to the MCU, Goblin says "Please don't let him take me again!"
      3. Norman mentions things that happen ONLY after he died, implying that the Goblin has told him of these things. Remember the Goblin cameos in Spiderman 2 & 3? Yep, kinda weird but it makes sense in the movie!

      You're forgetting one major scene from this movie.
      Strange straight up says that only people who knew Peter was Spiderman would be pulled into the timeline.
      So Norman couldn't have been pulled during the building fight as by that time he didn't know Spiderman identity.
      It had to have been sometime after the Thanksgiving scene.

      @@gabethebabe3337 I believe in the case of people who’re still alive it just plucks them from the current point of the timeline. So with Tobey and Andrew it’s just whatever day it was currently in their universe when the spell hit (end of the branch so to speak) same for Sandman as he’s still alive
      Only weird exception for that rule is Lizard because he seemed to come in most likely when he found Peter’s camera but seeing how Conners is alive in the TASM universe it should have just pulled him in at the same time as Andrew

    Goblin kinda had a point, Peter was all set to round everyone up to send them back like Strange told him too, but May guilts him into curing them instead/wants him to solve the problem her way(which Goblin calls them out on later), which I find a little unfair cos Peter would never wanna go against his aunt and she knows that. To be fair it's true the villains did need help getting better and Strange shouldn't have treated their welfare like a minor inconvenience, considering he's an actual medical doctor(a former neurosurgeon and not a psychiatrist but still a doctor who at least had dealt with physical mental disorders) and if he hadn't been so impatient to get rid of them maybe he could've done his part too.

    Sometimes you have to put yourself first. Ultimately, Peter was right about bringing them back to their universes. There was nothing they could do about them all being killed by Peter Parker. Also, it's bad in general to mess with someone elses fate in their universe. Sure might've not died when brought back to their universes but it would've affected the timeline and something even worse could happen.

      Yeah unfortunately, that's something May has always been synonymous for doing being a proverbial weight on Peter's conscience resulting in him making some utterly disastrous decisions. What's odd is this movie, plays off of one of Spider-Man's most infamous stories Brand New Day where Peter gave up his marriage to MJ just to save May's life by making the world forget that he was Spider-Man... needless to say, this didn't go down very well. Yet here he gives up his life to protect those he still loves and loses May anyway.
      I think they likely took cues from the Spider-Man PS4 game which was the first continuity to kill May outright but actually had that death make an impact on who Peter is as a character.

      The last time he saw him he had just blown up a bridge, and Otto told him that if it was in fact Norman that he was a greedy, misguided scientist. Peter thought if the Goblin was at FEAST, he'd be there to kill everyone in the building. I swear y'all pay no attention.

  • @tornadochaser2457

    When Aunt May talks to Norman, she should make him believe in himself, that he can take back control of his life with a vigorous, go-getter attitude, so that he can feel when the Goblin is starting to take over his mind. Norman will state he's never put in the effort to consciously feel the Goblin's presence before, always simply feeling at the mercy of his conversely, assured, confident existence. Peter can be alerted that Norman is feeling off, so that he then web-swings him away to a far away, deserted place e.g. a smaller, empty road. Norman will be onboard with the plan despite the web-swinging turbulence, as he's desperate to be normal again.
    Peter will still not send Norman back to his universe so that he doesn't die, unless the Goblin begins to harm others - An innocent until proven guilty approach will verbally take place.
    It is ultimately revealed in the film that Norman possesses no control for when the Goblin takes over.

    This is how I imagine a Harry Potter version of the part where Norman destroys his mask:
    Quirrell from the real movies (or Wizarding Earth 1 for the characters in my imagination) is in Knockturn Alley in an alternate universe called the Wizarding Cinematic Universe (or Wizarding Earth 3 for the characters, an imaginary franchise where I set a 2nd Harry Potter reboot series I imagine) putting his turban with only 1 hand, since he lost his other hand by burning it by touching Harry in The Philosopher's Stone, and trying to escape from Voldemort, who got his body and mortality back as a secondary effect from that universe's Dumbledore's spell that caused them to get there
    Voldemort: coward! We have a new world to conquer. You make me sick
    Quirrell: leave me alone. Please
    Voldemort: hiding in the shadows. Hiding from who you truly are!
    Quirrell: No!
    Voldemort: You can't escape yourself! Although now that I have my body back I don't need you anymore!
    Quirrell throws depulso at Voldemort, Voldemort turns into a shadow and flies around the city and Quirrell runs away
    Voldemort: hahahahaha!
