I think Anne's problems are so insignificant compared to Diana's when it comes to love, Diana has to face her family and class prejudices when it comes to the boy she likes, in anne's case, gilbert is just being a jerk .
YES, first time watching through the episode i didnt notice that Diana's mum said "we must extricate ourselves from that family" and shes talking about jerry's family.
How is gilbert being a jerk? She doesn't always treat him very well (well, not ALWAYS) and all he's doing is liking someone else? Not like he's intentionally trying to hurt her feelings? Just because he has fondness for someone else makes him a jerk?
@@aromamall2663 you’re right but Gilbert was in fact being a jerk in this episode towards Anne. He was being super dismissive about her feelings and completely ignoring her all together as well, Anne is with no doubts insufferable to Gilbert at times but she always makes it a point to apologize for her behaviour and make up for it. Gilbert isn’t shown doing that, but he’s forgivable either way because we see how devoted and in love he is with Anne, plus his letter to her kind of made us all phlegmatic and happy with him again.
@@LunafroyoAnne did apologise for how she snapped at Gilbert on that trip to Charlottetown, but by then the damage was done. It drew Gilbert towards Winifred when they met. Gilbert believed Anne didn't like him.
@@bl8892 why? He didn't love her. It wasn't fair to her to stay with him. She would've always been the second choice. They all would've in later years felt their lives wasted and regretted not pursuing what they really wanted in their lives.

Because he thought Anne didn't love him. He was only trying to move on. But his heart eventually came back to Anne, his childhood love and friend.
