    Perfect solution for older consoles.
    Especially the original NES, SNES,

I have seven retro consoles hooked up already and will have number 8 when i get my sega saturn. It's fantastic being able to just push a button on this guy instead of getting down on the floor and switching out sets of av cords. It also looks cool with its black metal case and purple buttons. Few questions... can I hook up my Atari to this? And I read below that you switched your NES to an old tube tv to use the gun - does that mean you can't use the gun feature with the this splitter? I'm not concerned over picture quality - same as you. I have Atari, NES, Sega, and SNES - will they all work with this splitter? How do you connect from the splitter to the tv? Does that cord come included?! Sorry for all the questions...very new at this!

    • @animateorange
      @animateorange  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Atari uses an older coaxial cable and will not work with this splitter. You will have to hook it directly to the tv, or make use of an old VCR, run it into the VCR and the VCR through the composite video. I talked of switching the NES to a old tube tv because light guns do not work on HDTV. The switch is not the issue. I could run it through this switch into a tube TV and the light gun will work. There are videos out there that explain why light guns do not work on HDTV. The splitter does not come with any cables. You will need a set of composite cables the go from the output on the switch to the TV video in.

    Silly question, but what's the name of the A/V cord that plugs into the TV > RCA Splitter? I know some are called "Male to Female" or something along those lines, but I want to make sure before I commit to the purchase. I have the Pelican 5-Way System Selector, and apart from 5 AV/S Video ports, it has a AV/S Video Out port that I'm assuming goes into the TV. • @animateorange
      @animateorange  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could be wrong but I'm thinking a splitter would take one input and send it to 8 outputs. So you could play one console on multiple TV's. It's probably what electric stores use to play one DVD on multiple TV'S. So sadly no.

  • @WhiteJarrah
    @WhiteJarrah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why are you using composite videos for all of those consoles? I know it's what came with most of them. But of the consoles you showed, the only one that optimizes through composite is the NES. The N64 video quality peaks through S-video. The SNES, original PlayStation and virtually all the Sega consoles peak in quality through RGB SCART. The Dreamcast's best quality is VGA, and the PS2 and Xbox optimize through YPbPr component.

    • @animateorange
      @animateorange  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not concerned enough about the picture quality to seek out a way to hook up S-Video (which I have never owned a tv with S-Video hookup) SCART (which is a connection I have never actually seen in person) or YPbPr Component. I do have my Wii hooked up through YPbPr component as well as my dvd player. My tv only has two connections of that type so it is full. Plus, do they even make switches for S-video or SCART? That is more trouble that it is worth in my opinion. If I had to switch out plugs every time I wanted to switch systems I would never play, which is what was happening before I purchased this switch. I am ok with the video quality I get as it is. The games play fine, I can see them, and I have fun.

    • @WhiteJarrah
      @WhiteJarrah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a Philips 4 input switcher that accepts composite, component and S-video. You can find it on ebay by searching "Philips HD switcher". I have my PS2, PS3 and original Xbox plugged into it via component. The Philips switcher outputs to the component input on my Elgato Game Capture HD. My Wii and PSP have their own HDMI adapters, and my Xbox 360 uses HDMI, they are all plugged into a HDMI switcher that goes into my Elgato.
      For anything that uses RGB or composite video, I have those plugged into a Bandridge manual SCART switcher which outputs to a SCART/HDMI to HDMI upscaler. The only console that I couldn't get to cooperate with any switcher I plugged it into was the PC Engine Duo, so it has its own SCART to HDMI upscaler that it plugs into. The HDMI inputs on these scalers also strips the copy protection, which makes it ideal for my PS4 and PSTV consoles. Finally, for my Nintendo 64 I use a S-video to HDMI scaler. All three of these scalers output to the HDMI switcher. As I said before, the HDMI switcher outputs to the HDMI in on my Elgtao card, which outputs to the TV via HDMI. So all my video game consoles end up at one HDMI on my TV.
      Trust me, after seeing all these consoles in their optimum video quality, it's hard to go back to what they came packaged with.

      That seems rather elaborate and it seems you are happy with it. Perhaps you should make a video. I do not share your desire to have the best possible video. As a matter of fact, I have since this video moved my tv and consoles to the basement making a little game room. I just added an old tube tv and plan to move the NES to it (so I can use the gun again) as well as hook up my Atari 2600, 7800, and 400. I do not have anything newer than a Xbox 360, another recent addition hooked up through said switch, and a Wii U that is hooked up via HDMI. It severs my needs, makes me happy. Thanks for watching!

    I liked the video. but I got a couple questions if you could please Spare a second to answer for me I'd appreciate it. What is connected to the tv and port? Does sega genesis connect to these?

    • @animateorange
      @animateorange  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The switch is connected to the TV via RCA audio/video cable. The Yellow, white and red connection like the systems. As for a Sega Genesis, yes you can hook it though this switch but you will have the have the correct cable. There is a RCA cable for the Genesis and a Coax switch like the old Atari or original Nintendo. The coax will not work with this switch.

      animateorange I just purchased this on amazon " 6FT RCA M/Mx3 Audio/Video Cable Gold Plated - Audio Video RCA Cable 6ft " for the adapter (same 8 port you have)
      and I purchased this " Sega Genesis 1 Standard AV Cable "
      I appreciate your help and insight. Your video is very informative. Unfortunately this stuff is very foreign to me.

    If you only had 1 A/V port in the back of your tv and more then 8 consoles. I have a 4 splitter now and want this too, is it possible to buy a 1 in 2 splitter or whatever for the splitters???

      Red and white are for left and right audio. Yellow is for video. Do you see the word in or out near them? I am guessing you will find the word out (if any word at all). It is probably an audio out for hooking up external stereo system and speaker.

      AxeCrazyAutobot That would depend on your television. This switch does not work with HDMI but if your tv has an HDMI input as well as the RCA ports, (the red, white, yellow plugs) then it should work. My TV has two HDMI inputs as well as two RCA, two Composite, coaxial, and VGA input.

      I personally can not see the need for amplification. While I see your point, it's the same price so why not, well what if it needs to be plugged in to work. I have enough stuff hogging the outlets. Your situation may be different. I would also take the time to read the reviews of both of them to see if they are good or not.

    Three questions. 1. Which TV are you using? 2. How many plug outlets do you have connected? 3. What if you have two of these?

    • @animateorange
      @animateorange  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex Chaudhari I am using slightly older HDTV. It has a lot of plugs on the back, two HDMI, two Componet video, 2 composite, 1 VGA and coaxial. I keep it because of all those options. I currently have the splitter hooked up to one comosite connection. The other is taken up by a vcr that has a top loader NES and Atari Jr on it. If I had two, which I would like to do in the near future, I would would either hook the second up through the second Composite and plug the vcr into it, or chain the two splitters.
