  • After a windy night sheltered at Niarbyl Cafe we drive along one of the most scenic routes on the island down to Port Erin.
    After a walk around the town and enjoying brunch at Cafe Red we drive up to Bradda Glen for a coastal walk and climb up to Milner Tower.
    Time to relax and we find a spot at the end of the breakwater with a lovely view.

    Another beautiful video. It's 5 AM here on the East Coast of the states and your food choices have made me think about a heartier breakfast than just coffee and toast! I always enjoy your music choices but I have to tell you I was surprised when you ended with "Ave Maria!" My mother used to sing that version in church on many occasions so it brought back some fond memories.

    Fun Fact! Milner's Tower was built in recognition of William Milner who was a local engineer and designer. He was a bit of a cool dude and a hero. The tower itself is in the shape of the barrel of a lock standing on end. (He designed and manufactured safes.)

    Your coverage of the island is so lovely to witness, my mum would have loved to watch your travels around a place she held so dear to her heart.
    Your vlogs continue to get better and better. I do hope you come back to Ireland one day and can experience the midlands of the country in more detail, it really is so beautiful.

    Great video guys. We Scottish people get frustrated when the English don’t accept our bank notes, it’s probably because England has a significant higher population they are not that common, so rather than question it they just refuse them because they think they’re a hassle. Where banknotes with the monarchs head on are accepted anywhere.

    The building you passed on the left with the round tower is the former Collinson's Cafe. It is now a private residence. During the war this was apparently a favourite meeting place for internees and was also used as an arts and crafts centre.

    It's so lovely to see these video's of the Isle of man. I was born there and grew up mainly in Peel, though I've lived pretty much all over the Island. I left the Island when I was 37 and moved to the Netherlands though I go back as often as I can, my kids and grand-kids are there. Sadly due to covid I haven't been able to get there since 2019. I'm hoping to get back over there shortly but have to go to Orkney first to see my elderly parents. I spent many hours on the beach in Peel, swimming, climbing on the rocks and where you spent the night was once a wonderful outdoor swimming pool where I learned to swim. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos from your trip, they are so well presented and you are showing so much of the Island in such a positive way.

    Hi, Rene from the Netherlands. I am a fan of the Nissan NV 200 and that is how I ended up on your wonderful channel. Unfortunately, the NV 200 can no longer be registered as a motorhome in the Netherlands because it is too small (customs). I've seen a lot of your videos and in this video you come into Erin, I stopped the video and started looking on google maps where I thought you would spend the night. It was exactly the place I had chosen on maps. Keep up the wonderful videos and greetings from the Netherlands. "Yummy" Rene. PS. what I don't understand as a Dutchman are the English breakfasts. Hi Rene thanks for watching. Here in the UK our licensing authority no longer recognises our van as a campervan but that is no bar to actually using it as one. Our vehicle insurers still insure us as a campervan 😁👍. Well done for predicting the park up spot. Our breakfasts are delicious but we will come to the Netherlands at some point and try yours 😁👍

    The Castletown, Port St. Mary and Port Erin area is my favourite part of the island. There used to be a cafe on the beach in Port Erin - had lunch there in the past. Have also walked up to Milner's Tower (although it was never open when I was there). Hopefully you took a ride on the steam railway as it is a brilliant way to travel from Port Erin to Douglas, and you can stop off in Castletown along the way.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We enjoyed the whole island to be honest. We never got to ride the train as when the weather was nice we did the outdoors and when it was wet the train was not running. 👍

    • @craigavonvideo
      @craigavonvideo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LifeistooshortCK That's a shame as the steam railway is a definate highlight of the IOM. Also, are the horse trams still running in Douglas? It was a great way to have a leisurely journey along the prom (and you would have gotten a lot of good tracking shots in the process).

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@craigavonvideo we will have to do the train the next time. We didn’t see any horse trams whilst we were there. The island was pretty quiet with much fewer tourists than normal which was probably why attractions were not operating every day. The busiest thing we encountered was the tram from Douglas to Laxey and especially the ride up to Snaefell.

    There is no restriction under UK law on the number of notes and coins they may issue, but equally Manx notes are not legal currency in the UK as they have not been approved by the UK Parliament.

    Another really good vlog, but then it’s like home after living in Port Erin for 13 years. The building you parked by is the Marine Biological Station, previously run by Liverpool University. Plans have been put forward for the re use of the station but seem to have come to nothing. On a good day the Royal Manx Show is a good visit, the place that is the show ground was an internment camp during ww2 and is the sight of the Islands experimental farm. The run from Dalby, your overnight stop to Port Erin is known to us as the Sloc, the round table being at the junction of your right turn to Port Erin. The road straight ahead leads to electric hill, ask any Manxy they will explain.

    The money thing is probably because the island politically is classed as a separate entity (they can govern themselves to an extent) they can have Thier own currency but it's probably never been recognised by our finance system because it likely had no effect on the markets because it's so small. That's my understanding. 👍

    Yes, it;s such a shame the old Victorian salt water pool was left to go to ruin. At Groudle Glen (on the way to Laxey) they used to have seals and polar bears in their pools.

      @@LifeistooshortCK The ruined cottages, called tholtans on the Island, are a result of hard times for farmers in the 1800s when many Manx and Irish families emigrated to America. Lovely locations but would be expensive to bring back to life with no mains water, electricity, gas or sewerage!
