BigJess, thanks. I used a 15" long rear axle from a Harley. It doesn't have to be that long but I wanted to ensure I had enough material to mill down when the new threads were made.
you ve got talent my friend, I think these bars on the bike look better than your apes but thats just me. that 18" wheel really gives that bike nice flowing lines beautiful! #1 fan
I wish someone would weld-up some mild cams for this engine. It's like the aftermarket forgot about the 650 Stars when it came to performance mods. There are single-carb manifolds out there. I might try one on my bike.
hows it goin bud? Beautiful bike. can I ask...did you use a separate axle when you threw on that 21" wheel? Im smack in the middle of the same project and I was told a Harley rear axle to make it fit. what was your method? Thanks -Big Jess
Daki Chap sorry It’s been a long time since I did this project. I found the info on a forum. Most folks used some round pipe I just used square tubing. Basically you remove the shock and put a piece of pipe in place of the shock. Not the best ride but I was going for a certain look. Just post on one of the VSTAR forums and they should help you out.
+shadowrayray all in all you bought the rim and spokes and just used the stock hub and axle on the rear and connected the spokes through the holes? simple as that or ?
Thank you very much. I apologize but I built that bike many years ago. If you look back through some of the comments and replies I think I listed the size but I don’t have part numbers. I remember that I called Buchanan’s and told them what bike I had and they told me what spokes i needed based on the rim I purchased from them. I think the rim was a 18x5.5. Sorry I can’t help more but it’s been awhile.
No problem, I appreciate the reply back. I noticed it was a while ago that you posted this vid, and I imagine you have had a lot of feed back on it. But I figured it was worth a shot. I first saw your bike on Pinterest, and was blown away by it, So I built one very similar to yours. The only thing i done different was the rear rim and tire. I couldn't find a rim to match the hub. And I used narrow apes. Thanks again man
what rear rim did you use did it also originally come from a Harley im looking to do the same conversion and would like all info possible please thanks
hello, Really very nice! I am a transformation of a range f dragstar. I am looking for information on changing the size of the rear wheel. Can you tell me the sizes of the rings? Thank you very much and still very nice work on this bike! kind regards
hey bro love the bike if you are still active can you tell me - did you lower the rear end and how, J slam ? also did you have to adjust the swing arms somehow to fit the wider rear wheel ? thanks
+shadowrayray thank you bro - you think I can find both the rear and front wheel on Buchanan’s or did you only get the rear from them and the front 21” HD seperatley. what is the width of the wheel you went with the rear ?
Daki Chap the front was from an older HD softail I got from a friend. The rear I got from Buchanan’s. I believe it was an 8” width. Check the comments I may have mentioned it before. It’s been too long since I did this mod.
+shadowrayray thanks for all the info bro - just one last thing. if i end up having trouble finding a HD front 21” wheel do you think a Buchanans product could do ?
BigJess, thanks. I used a 15" long rear axle from a Harley. It doesn't have to be that long but I wanted to ensure I had enough material to mill down when the new threads were made.
fantastic transformation.
The bike has a better stance since the conversion. I'll bet it handles and rides well with the 21 up front. Good work, man. Ride safe.
Spin Werkes 18" steel rim by Buchanans Spoke and Rim. Spokes also from Buchanans..check out the CC&D forum for more info.
Nicely done, and appropriate music too:)

Amazing job! Vstars rule!

Rear tire is a 180 55 18, I used a Harley speedo for a 21" wheel it was pretty close to normal.
Lowered with 1” square metal pipe, swingarm was not changed I just bought the widest rim I could to fit between the existing arm.
thanks again- i been thru all the forums never came across this lowering mod - is it DIY and do you have a link to some info tnx

Front is a Harley 21" rim, rear is a larger rim laced to factory hub with custom made spokes..thanks..
That is one bad ass bike very nice build my friend Is that 180 it 200 series rear tire ?
What series tire in the rear? Wider than a 200? And yeah did yoou just relace rims to factory hubs? What all involved in doing so
Do you mind sharing what you had to do to get the 18" rear wheel on it? Also, how wide is the rear rim?
1st off, your bike is awesome bro. Secondly, do have part numbers for the rear rim, and the Buchanan spoke set?

Where did you bye the rim? Cant seem to find any 36 spoke rims..
TTS makes rims you can put on the stock hubs..
what rear rim did you use did it also originally come from a Harley im looking to do the same conversion and would like all info possible please thanks
Rims and spokes were purchased from Buchanan's Spokes.
Thank u very much...
Did u do a 21'' an 18'' wheel conversion on it it looks sick bro
What size is that rear tire and how far off did your speedometer change?
are your front forks stock length or did you shorten them?
hello,
Really very nice!

Thank you very much and still very nice work on this bike!

Didnt use a kit....i just used the blue collar bobber fender not the rest of the kit, and had some struts made..thanks...
Hey Ray that seat looks flush with the frame, was it mounted with springs?
Doc Riley no springs
hey bro love the bike if you are still active can you tell me - did you lower the rear end and how, J slam ?
also did you have to adjust the swing arms somehow to fit the wider rear wheel ?
thanks
Daki Chap the rear was lowered with a piece of square metal tubing and nothing was done to the rear I just bought the widest rim that would fit.

thanks for all the info bro - just one last thing. if i end up having trouble finding a HD front 21” wheel do you think a Buchanans product could do ?
Daki Chap if it was me I would find a 21” harley wheel off EBay. It will be cheaper.
Would these wheels fit stock front forks and if I kept my rear fender?
Yep...21" harley front wheel conversion, custom 18" wheel in rear..
Check out the CC&D forum...lots of good info...lots of good people...
Please pm me. I believe to have bought this bike as of today.
I’m not sure how to pm you.
