* 3:07 - that brings back memories. I loved reading Sega Megazone as a kid. Hell, I think I've still got some copies somewhere. * I eagerly look forward to your video about the infamous North American Saturn launch.
Well, at least the Sega Neptune's legacy as a gaming console immortalized into a "Purple Hearted" anime girl who likes to play games, eat pudding, avoid eggplants and destroy the 4th wall (such as telling players and viewers that she's the protagonist of her franchise).
I think sega should've created the neptune project as a backward compatible saturn only being release in NA/EU, while JP can have the Saturn. Where everyone in sega will be happy. Or release it as a duo console in 92 or 93 canceling the sega cd or inside a standalone sega cd or duo console. Postpone the sega saturn to a year or two. With a better and cleaner designed hardware.
IIRC, SEGA of America didn't even want the 32X, which was forced on them by Japan. Instead, they wanted to enter 1995 and even continue into 1996 by making better use of the features in the very powerful SEGA CD, which had only a few minor problems running its display back through the Genesis. A combined Neptune CD unit would've allowed SEGA of America to dominate in library, accessories, and probably game sales all the way through NBA Jam and NFL and NHL 98, when the Dreamcast would finally be ready with its own slate of games. And the Neptune was ready to go to store shelves for just $149--half the price of the ailing PlayStation. Had SEGA just sold a $199 Neptune CD, they'd have a much larger, growing library of 32-bit CD games and perfect arcade ports while PlayStation struggled to show off anything but Resident Evil and Crash Bandicoot, both of which would probably have been ported to the Neptune 32X CD.
Those old commercials... I think it's funny that they just yelled at us all the time. I'd like to see the story of that Ultravision Video Arcade System. Probably a short story. Great video. Thanks.
Everything Sega is said to have failed for is exactly what current gen consoles are praised for doing: huge clone game libraries i.e backwards compatibility, multiple skus of the same console with differing specs and swappable add-on hardware, VR headsets, and ever increasing graphics. Sega was right. The competition at ms and sony knew it. They worked together to run Sega out of the business to make greater room for themselves.
Back then I had the mega drive, when the mega CD came out I couldn't afford it. When the Satarin came out I was in the same boat same as the Dream cast! I'm now using a Xbox series X , if it wasn't for the price of the original Xbox coming down to £99 in Woolworths when the PS2 was £129 I wouldn't have still buying Xbox 's . I have had a PS3 that I got for £99 at Tesco but I like Xbox better!
Sega always seemed ahead of Nintendo on tech but behind on actual game design. To this day, what sets Nintendo apart from other systems is rarely that their hardware is top of the line tech, but rather their games are just flat out more fun to play
Depends what kind of games you like really, Sega's output always appealed to me far more than any of Nintendo's, because I was a big arcade gamer probably.
It would have been nice if the Sega Neptune was never canceled. If you owned a Sega Neptune (aka Sega Genesis/Sega 32X 2-in-1), then you wouldn't need to get a Sega Genesis and a Sega 32X add-on for your Genesis. I can say the same thing about the Sega CDX. If you own a Sega CDX and a Sega CD memory cartridge for it, then you don't need a Sega CD add-on for your Genesis.
Neptunia fans will be going wild on the 32X console, because the main character "Neptune" is named after the console.

I think they should have delayed the release of the Saturn to revise it and make it a PSX beater and concentrated on the Neptune as a stop gap.

It felt like a beta Sega Saturn
