    There are so many alternatives to pine nuts to make a good pesto. What other seeds/nuts have you used?

      I have never tried making pesto myself :) i guess cashews would work? it seem like they often work for different sauces :)

    I also use sunflower seeds for my pesto :) I think they are brilliant alternates! I have also used walnuts sometimes and it's pretty good!

      Ohhh walnuts would be awesome too, that would give the pesto such a nice nutty flavour, thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

    What a cool recipe! I like that you used sunflower seeds! I think I’d add more lemon ☺️ I love lemon. Yours looks so good! That’s smart to make a big batch of it!

    • @LivingFreeAshley
      @LivingFreeAshley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Shawna! I'm a huge lemon lover too but husband is just a lemon-liker, so I had to tone down the acidity just a bit for him haha. You might like the amount I used in this recipe though, it seemed just perfect. If you give it a try, please let me know!

    Hmmm I just trimmed my basil plant and made tea and curry with it so I'll have to let it recover a bit before I try this but I definitely will! I'm so excited to have an alternative to pine nuts. They really are expensive as delicious as they are... I've always made mine with a mortar and pestle, so I'll probably do that since my blender isn't always the most reliable. Thanks for sharing!

    • @LivingFreeAshley
      @LivingFreeAshley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that feeling, my basil plant is still recovering from this video, haha! I'm so glad you like the pine nut alternative and you found this video helpful. Please let me know once you have enough basil and you try this recipe out :)

    I LOVE pesto! And what a great idea using sunflower seeds.. I never thought about making it with those. Will definitely have to try it with the sunflower seeds. Especially since they are so high in nutritional value. Your chunky pesto looked good to me.. Smooth or chunky, its delicious either way! 😉 You also mentioned another pesto recipe you made a while back with cashews. I'll have to check that one out! That brown rice pasta dish you made with this recipe looked amazing by the way!! Yumm!! 😋

      Thanks so much Sandra! I like my pesto a but on the chunky side too, so it didn't bother me. The cashew pesto is linked in the video if you want to give that a watch. Thanks so much for watching :)

    I love this idea! My son's allergic to nuts, so it's very rare I cook with them...so we usually avoid pesto cuz of the pine nuts, but he could absolutely have this! Thanks for the recipe, looks so easy and yummy!

      So glad to hear your son might be able to indulge in this pesto! I actually didn't even think about the allergy-friendliness of this recipe but it makes sense, thanks for pointing that out. You can make this pesto when your basil starts coming in strong in your garden. Enjoy :)

      Oh interesting! Maybe it's the pine nuts that were throwing you off? You can also customize pesto by adding garlic, or more citrus, or more nutritional yeast. Maybe that'll help with you liking pesto :)
