    Ocean Rodeo Aluula kites. They drift back like foil kites when you hit a lull, not fall out of the sky. They react/turn like kites much smaller. The Flight flies closer to the wind window for upwind, doesn't drag you downwind during gusts. Basically it has almost all the advantages of a foil kite but flies like kites several meters smaller with light bar feel.

    It's incredible how the material has developed. With my 65kg, the North Reach 13m2 2024 (not a special super light wind kite) and the North Trace 145/45, I'm easily cruising and jump at 11-12 knots.

    Had a CORE GTS 17m. Was great kite and got out in 11-12kts and had fun. My board and session saver is the Mako King 165cm by Ocean Rodeo. Fun, fast and incredibly smooth. Everyone who tries it wants one or buys one. Now switching to Soul 12m kite. Same winds as my 17 but much better for foiling. Another thing to mention is air temperature. As air increases in temperature its density decreases giving less lift. It is truly noticeable here in NW Australia where the average day can be plus 35C. Cheers

    My light wind kite in the past was the Blade Fat Lady, used the V1 and V3. Super fun kites, had some of my best sessions on the V3. I recently traded it for 12m ozone hyperlink v1, which is now what I use for "light" wind with a big TT.

    My best lite wind kite thus far was a flysurfer boost2 15m, I kited in 7 knots with a cf raptor 136 TT on flat water, I imagine I could have dropped a couple of knots on a big lite wind board. I verified the wind speed with a recording meter at the site thru ikitesurf.
    I'm only 140# which maybe makes it happen, plus I have almost 100 hours of practice in lite wind.
    Looking at a liquid force solo solo 17.5 with a litewave wing for sub 7 knot kiting, I know it will work

    My favorite light wind kite is my 19m Ozone Edge. I has amazing smooth pull, handles gusts like no other kite and boosts to the moon when you send it!

    Great video brotha and great tips for those folks who are either new to kiting or dont fly in light winds very often. My lightwind kite is a Switch Helium H3 16m. i do have to disagree with one thing you said though, adding line length doesnt slow the kite down...it still turns at the same speed it just sets farther away therefor has a larger wind window. it will turn at the same speed with longer lines as shorter lines however with shorter lines the kite will cross through the wind window faster. i use 24m lines on both my 9m and 12m and 27m lines on my 16.

    Naish Fly 17m... Keeps me going from 12 to 18 knots. Sadly no longer created. The Naish boxer 16m is lighter, keeps me riding from 9 to 18 knots but it turns slower.

  • @kitingholger9826
    @kitingholger9826 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Last 3 years I used a Core XR3 17m, now switched to the newer model XR5 17m. With my 97kg, I’m able to ride (without a big walk back on the beach) from ca 11knts up with this kite, and a 160x46 light wind board.
    The Core is very powerful.
    However, I do not go out anymore when the wind is not stably above 9 knts, since the kite flyes stably from ca 8-9 knts up.
    For lighter persons, that are able to ride at 8-10 knts, it may be worth choosing a lighter kite with 1strut, or even a no-strut kite. Softkites are a different game - would not recommend them for beginners. Although water-restart improved in the most recent models, I would recommend to stick with a tube kite until you really are experienced.

    Loving my Ocean Rodeo Flite 17m. Very fast turning kite for a 17. But if there is enough wind to get going on my Airush Ultra 15m, I prefer that over the Flite.
    And by the way, thanks for these videos. You are adding something unique to the world of kite vlogs. The Shinn boards are beautiful. I have a Nobile Flying Carpet for LW, which I love, but the King Gee was a definite close second for me.

      @@TheOKKiteboarder I am a new kiteboarder so I am not particularly gentle with my kites, but it has held up very well so far - actually all my kites have held up well. We have mostly clean beach launch sites here in Florida though so that helps. All in all, I think its a pretty durable kite. A friend of mine who has flown probably hundreds of kites has 4 of them and likes them more than any other kite he has flown. And he rides them on a twin tip.

    Oh man. Sure wish kiting was a thing when I lived in Tulsa. Was there for 12 years starting in 94. Windsurfer a bit. I’m home in Jamaica now and it’s been awesome kiting here and rediscovering the coast, etc. for launch spots. 13m Dice is my go to here with the 15m Mono (going to the Juice tho) when it’s light.
    Wind average here is 10-15kts and stronger about 45 minutes down the road where you can use 7-10m.
    Visit Jamaica some time.

  • @theleviathan0

    You missed one big point. Riding slow will help you tack harder upwind given the apparent wind direction. I find many people try and get too much speed making it hard to get upwind angle. I use Cabrinha Contra 15m and a shinn 150

    Airrush Ultra, Naish Fly, Ocean Rodeo Flight, Ozone Zepher and North Juice in that order. Also I have a Maui Cloud 17m for sale which is really really lite. NSW Australia. Great informative video mate. look forward to your next one.

    • @TheOKKiteboarder

    • @proTheologist
      @proTheologist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Maui Cloud 17m needs to be extremely/excessively inflated in an attempt to prevent unwanten fluttering at transition.
      Also water restarts are unfairly difficult even not possible, particulartly in deep water. I believe it is for the intermediate and above enthusiast that understands the nature of a struttless kite.
      I fully recomend the Brand, but the 17m has to be kept in the air.
      I did not mention it because it would not be fair to encourage or inspire a beginner etc to buy one that is all.
      Also can I just say my mind often recollects your tips n tricks whilst kiting. Look forward your next video. Keep well.

    Hi bro , I took my first lessons back in Florida the wind was around 10 knots , the water was super flat the location key Biscayne FL , I was about 195 pounds , and 6.1 tall , I had my first session on a 12 m kite slingshot , and right after that the instructor brought a 17 m slingshot I 🤔 think it was call turbine , well the good thing I want to say Its that I was riding on my first session with a 17 m kite and the board I remember was big but didn’t pay to much attention 2 it , the kite I remember well how to fly it , launch it , and it was super easy 🤣 ok I’m done excuse my English it’s not the greatest! So 17 m 10 knots to 11 knots for a 195 pound guy 6.1 works good ! I’m a new Sub 👍

      @andrejjursa4729 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is also 2015. The red one. Actually I did not have a chance to try other LW kite. I tried 2015 Velocity 18m. It felt havier than Contra and was terribly slow turning. I understand that as a bow race kite it is a different animal. It works perfetly on apparent wind. Much better than Contra, but I still prefer Contra for it´s playfulness. I noticed Appolo in your vid, which I think was only renamed Velocity, so you know the differences. Keep up the great work!

    Mine is Airush ultra V2 17m
    Feels really smooth for free ride foiling and being so light It stays in the air very easily under 10 knots.
    It is true is quite thin so we will see after time how durable it is.
    For me it does not perform under 7 knots, thats a league for foil kites I think. But If you want a versatile inflatable kite to use it for foil, surf and twin-tip for very light wind conditions I really recommend it

    Boardriding Maui 17m would be ultimate LEI kite in the 15-18m range. I doubt there are any lighter LEI kites on the market.
    As for the board, my weapon of choice in light wind was BRM Paipo in pre foil days.
