Your pipe bending and soldering on the combi boiler was super. I know you said there were things you didn't like about your work, but I thought it was fantastic. If you don't already, you should consider teaching because you clearly have the knowledge and you explain things very clearly. You even draw things in a way that is very easy to understand. Good on you.
" I Fu**ed Up" classic mate..!!! Fair play for going back and sorting it when you remembered......just before your holiday!!! People dont see how things we do on the job can linger around in the back of your mind sometimes, ive been back to houses late at night and said to the owner "Ive left my grips in the roof" to double check ive turn tanks back on before.......
This guy is awesome. Love how he speaks about his mistakes and not just about the stuff that goes right. I’ve also made lots of silly mistakes and also wrong calls. Plumbing will catch the best of plumbers out. Just when you think you know it all somthing gets you. Shows your human. Love this channel
Best advice you've given so far! Holding your hands up to your mistakes, being honest when you've messed up and being prepared to sort things out and man enough to accept any consequences there may be is a big deal and a true show of character. Nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes and it's how you deal with them and learn from them that really matters. P.S. love the pipe bending tutorials, you should charge for that knowledge! 😂
A brave thing PB admitting a mistake .. and you’re right the first chance to put things right is always inevitable your best chance it can only get worse when left for later !! Apprentices take heed !!!
Nothing worse than remembering somthing when you just about to nod off for the night! Been there a few times too😔and when you said about making an excuse to go back. Been there too🤩
Great vid. I'm a diy plumber. I installed a pressure relief valve, as set out in the Worcester Bosch instruction manual about 8 years ago between combi and water meter but never understood, why I should be doing it until your vid turned up.
Excellent video per usual Pete, thought the boiler install was a repeat of a recent previous one you did for a minute lol & thanks for the knowledge on non return valve on water meters wouldn't have even guessed
Another great video I am not a plumber and dont want to be, i am a retired engineer and i have made some really expensive mistakes as you say just own up best policy i am not proud of things i have done wrong but they still play on my mind even to this day Again great video keep them coming
Ace video mate! I think your being tough on yourself regards the combi swap.. I personally loved it! Great engineers always do the same though that’s what separates them for the bad.
Good video, regarding min expansion vessels/shock arrestors on the cold main to the boiler. It is best practice to fit one on everyone, as even if the property does not have a water meter fitted it could have one fitted over the life of the boiler and may not be picked up on annual service, or risks the boiler having a problem that will not be covered by the warranty. We learnt this the hard way when a housing estate we had fitted a lot of boilers on had a new water main. Every property had a water meter connection fitted that houses the no-return valve. Fitting the boiler to all MIs is so important to protect the customer/their boiler warranty and also the reputation that all professionals build to get 'word of mouth' work.
Been appreciating all your videos Pete. Clear and Concise. Curious about the shock arrestors, as I fitted 2 recently, and they could only be upright/vertical in orientation, not horizontal, as in your install. Looked identical to yours fitted, but perhaps different M.I.'s for different brands. What brands yours as horizontal install flexibility would be good! Keep up the great work and good luck with your ACS.
You would have thought the manufacturer would have used a twin brown flex instead of the brown and blue . Probably used the brown and blue for cheapness.
@Duf Jax yes you should get out more . Yes it is line or phase or live . Same thing just what people call it . Same as everyone says twin and earth cable but its twin and cpc
Boss vid as usual, just a quick one from a job I got called out to where the gas meter and pipe work was not 150mm away from the consumer unit as the regs state! 25mm for cables, also hope it helps you out with your acs and good luck!
Loved this video mate, can honestly say I've never read that bit in the 830 instructions but from now on shall be installing shock arrestors. I was under the impression brass hydraulics didn't need them but I stand corrected. Also on the f**k up I've done similar on site lately and have no shame in admitting when I've made a mistake. I normally fix any accidents there and then otherwise as you say, you forget.
hi PB, notice you swage your pipes pretty often, would be good to see a video on what tool/kit you use to make them as neat as that. Cheers for the content as usual!
Wouldn't you think if the manufacturer is basically insisting on / admitting boiler can't cope without, an expansion vessel, then one would come with it? Do you need to match the mains static pressure and the pre-charge pressures for the vessel to work properly? Cheers.
Nice vid as always P.B. I too usually swage pipes but I was told it's not legal on gas as the swaging thins the pipe wall thus rendering the connection not suitable....
Another great vid PB 👍the pipe bending stuff is great. Could do with some more electrics stuff/ fault finding please. im trying to learn it but still in that non confidence stage with it. Any update on the service bag?
I had a boiler installed in a property I am doing upfrrental. The fitter asked me if there was a water meter - to which I replied there wasnt and off he went. An hour later my curiosity got the better of me and I went to ask him the relevance of the water meter and he explained that if there was a water meter he would have to fit an expansion vessel. I said that as it was going to be rented out the tennent may get a water meter fitted and it would be prudent to fit the expansion vessel anyway. He never explained why it would need to be fitted. Its a good job I pushed him to fit the expansion vessel. If he had asked the correct question of "is there a water meter or non-return valve fitted?" my answer would have been yes as I had followed Building Controls instruction to fit a non-return valve immediately after the stopcock.
Hey Pete when are we having the I Fucked Up vid of you cutting the wrong side of the stop tap haha, I think about it every time I go near one now thanks to you. You had my sympathy but still a great video of what really happens to a jobbing plumber. Keep up the excellent work
"I found this on this on the Web.... Check it out"🙄 What the fuck Siri🤬🤣🤣 Great video. One of the best /The best yet. I watched you stressing and sweating pulling bends live. Very nicely done. Remember pressure is for combies. Keep up the great work.
I can understand why you solder at a part of the fitting that you can't see but i'm completely the opposite. When i solder i like to be able to see the solder on the pipe a bit as well. Only reason is is if i woke up in a sweat at 2am and wondered if i had forgotten to solder a fitting i would like to see that fitting has been soldered a few weeks later even when it has oxidised a bit. Even though i check the fittings afterwards, it's easy for things to play on your mind
Veissman have this weird little thing shaped like a test tube at the back that I think is to accommodate expansion, I'm not 100 percent sure, you'll know Pete, not even the engineer at work was 100 percent clear. All I know is it pissed out mains pressure water when I knocked it once 😭
Worst thing in the world when all of a sudden you think......shit did i do this or that and it plays on your mind. I too have been back to many jobs and made ridiculous excuses to customers just to double check something. Mini vessels.... i fit ideal boilers as a rule and they are now quite hot on them so probably for the last couple of years they all get a mini vessel, a pressure reducing valve and a filter even before the Max range. They offer good warranties (which inflates the price) so you have to protect the customer by not giving the manufacturer the opportunity to say not installed correctly and walking off.
If anyone wants to know I fitted a mini shock arrestor the other day on a combi swap I did in a downstairs wc, the main in and metre were coming in right basin the wash hand basin and the next day the customer got hold of me saying the shock arrestor is banging so I replaced it thinking maybe it was faulty then within 12 hours it did it again, rang up the manufactures and never knew but they aren’t suppose to be fitted within a certain meterage of the metre as the check valve inside affects the shock arrestor
I once cored a 100mm hole through 22mm chip board floor to find some pipe work literally right next to the bath and the drill bit of the corer went right through the middle of a 28mm gas pipe and I mean right in the middle I should of won a gold fish for that
Stumbled across this whilst looking for a new tap... how long ago did you do this review? www.bristan.com/installers-home/installer-news/rapid-4-in-1-boiling-water-tap
Generally when soldering ie 15mm a 15mm piece of solder is used as with 22mm 22mm of solder. Nice to see pipes being wiped. Too many don’t bother. Great job mate
What i would prefer to do for the first bend over the gas pipe that has a little less risk to it, i.e cutting it short is make the first bend a double set over the gas pipe on the horizontal piece then an elbow then a single set on the vertical piece going into the other end of the elbow. Obviously it won't be a continuous pulled bend piece but having the elbow there reduces the risk of ruining the whole first section piece
Best pipe work I’ve ever seen. Ever. Mil perfect. That bend in one piece is impressive. Very good knowledge as well. Kudos my man

You need some brown sleeving on the blue (neutral) wire from the condensate pump to indicate it's a switched live
You would have thought the manufacturer would have used a twin brown flex instead of the brown and blue . Probably used the brown and blue for cheapness.
You should not use the blue (negative) for anything other than its intended purpose!
tim nope . The only core that has to stay as marked is the cpc . Any other core can be remarked with sleeving to denote its use , live neutral etc .
@@lazenbytim Blue isn’t negative it’s neutral. Negative and positive are found in DC systems

hi PB, notice you swage your pipes pretty often, would be good to see a video on what tool/kit you use to make them as neat as that. Cheers for the content as usual!

Manufacturers add a protective coating to the outside of the copper pipe. That shouldn't be removed to look shiny.
