    Great job, Beautiful place very relaxing area, I remember being in Bishops Cleeve, Woodmancote the Cotswolds working as a Aerospace Defence Hardware Test Qualification Verification consultant contractor, I even worked in Tewkesbury always flooded area, I sure loved living in the countryside, I used to live in Wilcott Nesscliffe Shropshire as a teenager, far more relaxed life being close to Nature & Wildlife ❤💚👍🦊🦉🦇

    I really enjoy your vids because you explain everything so methodically. Your copper work really belongs in a museum. I would hate to cover any of it up with a cupboard. It's a pleasure to look at. Thanks for sharing the clients home and grounds. What a beautiful location. No worries about the mistakes. We all make them. It's smart that you show them and how they are corrected. Sometimes when I make a mistake on a job, I end up with a better final project than if I hadn't made a mistake. It makes you think. Good on you.

    I am 73 now and well used to fitting very old heating systems and even park ray boilers that were completely gravity, systems with old barrel pipe connections,My question is, all those extra filters, and purification, type additions like Magnaflow, are they totally needed, in other words, these modern boilers will not actually fire up if they are not there or is it just to keep the servicing correct,I ask simply because in my day the original floor standing Potterton, had none of these modern benefits, and from time to time we would drain them, and refill with fresh water, but probably only after about twenty years, Yes the old kingfishers were simple, and lasted forever it seems , cheers from a fan,.Thanks for all your videos,s

    We used this type of boiler up to 2010 in Hungary, still 1000s in use, air from room , balanced, and always needed went from outside, cause we have load of block flat with over 30m tall chimneys, we used to line the flue with aluminium single wall liner, due the long flue the aluminium liner start the corrosion from condensation out of Carbon monoxide, inside that flue is aluminium residue from corrosion, so if use CCTV flue camera prob the flue has alu liner and full of holes... seen millions times.. 👍👍nice job anyway

    Been plumbing 20 years still learning stuff everyday. One big thing I will say mate is never use the earth wire as a conductor. Every 240v cable has to be earthed even if the device it connects to doesn’t. Great video a normal though, cheers.

    • @silvergrim
      @silvergrim 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not having a go, and I'm no electrician. But if a product like a thermostat is class 2 and doesn't require an earth as the product is plastic then why do I need an earth? Or am I missing something

    • @whynot6950
      @whynot6950 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m no electrician either but my understand is your earthing the cable, say the cable got nicked or hit with a screw etc.

    • @silvergrim
      @silvergrim 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah OK. It makes total sense to have an earth but kinda makes class 2 products pointless as you need the earth for the cable. You can pass a class 2 on pat test so as with some gas stuff, seems a grey area. Ill chuck an earth in from now on

    • @chrisb4009
      @chrisb4009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@silvergrim It’s more properly called a circuit protective conductor, it provides protect if you chop through the cable.

    • @whynot6950
      @whynot6950 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silvergrim if you think about it, a class 2 product made of plastic can’t be earthed because it’s plastic therefore no earth required, but obviously the cable could electrocute someone with no earth so earth always required. Just trying to help you understand

    Excellent video as usual, from my understanding the room stat should be wired in a 4 core, any cable that carries 240v must have a connected earth in it. If by accident someone cut the room stat cable there would be no earth protection.

    • @johnwaby4321

    Looks a nice install considering some of the minor problems. I’d’ve smashed them cakes lol. Those old boilers are heavy bastards though ain’t they. Rookie errors are the easiest ones to make of all, worth the cost of the fittings for the time and stress saving for sure. I was always told to make the earth longer by my dad, he was a pit electrician. Hope you L Box ain’t too knackered. Sam’s obviously a top guy and a grafter. Is there a reason why you didn't use the Vaillant wiring centre in the installation? It isn't immediately apparent from the Vaillant instructions but if you use 3rd party controls then because it doesn't know the difference between hot water charging and heating, it applies the automatic heating partial load and also the anti-cycling time, which can cause it to take much longer than expected to recharge a hot water cylinder because it doesn't get up to maximum temperature. You can disable the anti-cycling and heating partial load but then you lose the benefit of that with the heating circuit. I think really Vaillant should make it more clear in the instructions what benefits are lost from not using their wiring centre.

      @@samlowe6814 I have a daughter that's 6 and I worked away Mon to Friday since before she was born. Some times things need to be done to provide for the family. And the time we do spend together at weekends means so much more

      On gravity systems with a F&E in the loft you have low pressure filling the system and air locks can form . This job was a sealed system so pressurised from the mains .
