    Have you ever been in a position where you had to fire someone? How can you make improvements next time and leave the employee with as much clarity and understanding as possible?

    • @mindsoulpower
      @mindsoulpower 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not agree with the sentence. You are the mistake. You hired someone and fire them. The reason may also be that you as employer did not give clear information, instruction. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE! REMEMBER! NOW BLAMING THE EMPLOYEE...? LOL

    • @paulmurphy3655
      @paulmurphy3655 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1. Be direct.
      Do not start with flowery language like "you've done your best but..." Or "I'm so sorry but..." Or "unfortunately we just..."
      Say "You're fired"
      2. If they argue, tell them then that the choice has been made and there is no way to persuade you.
      3. Take responsibility. Be honest. As a manager, it is your choice AND responsibility to make sure you have a functioning team. Since the employee being fired is not a useful member, tell them why. As long as they are not beligerent, this could greatly help them on their difficult path ahead.
      4. Tell them they are welcome to put you down as an advocate on their resume, praising their strengths while not downplaying their weaknesses.

      @@mindsoulpower So it's impossible that an employee is just performing poorly? An employee's termination should never be a surprise to them, but if they've been informed and coached multiple times already to no avail, then it's time to let them go. According to your logic, bad apples can never exist.

    If you're going to fire someone, have their money ready and state why you're letting them go clearly right away. It isn't a negotiation. If you want to talk about corrections then do that, don't mix the two. The worst thing any manager can do is turn a firing into a bargain. Firing someone isn't a joke, and carrying a toxic or plain bad element on your team for months or years isn't a joke either. It won't be easy and it may not happen right away, but a better candidate will show up.

    I was fired by the boss of my company with out a reason . The same day he fired me around 11am , he came in to my booth . He looked already mad , I wasn't behind on any work or anything for me to get fired . I have an injured knee , told one of my coworkers earlier that week . I was using a small crate to finish cleaning the wheels , note I'm 6'3 and can't be on my knee too long with out a padding before it feels like it's going to pop . So I was sitting on a small crate when he came around the corner with out a warning , he yelled "GET UP !!! (Super loud angry voice ) he went on saying "SITTING IS FOR HOME!!!!!!" than grabbed my chair and threw it across the work shop , humiliating me Infront of coworkers , and I felt belittled and very angry by his actions . He could of approached me differently . He later on , told one of my coworkers to tell me to grab my stuff and head home . He didn't want to pay me on the spot . And never gave me 3 warnings on the duties I was doing . Do I have a case on my hand ? I never disrespected him in any way after he yelled at me and humiliated me Infront of others . The manager never gave me 3 warnings not he gave me a paper why I got fired . What should I do ? I feel very angry and confused

      I guess it depends on in which country you live about wether they have to give you a warning at all (or several). But they HAVE to give you a reason. You have to request a reason in written form so that way you have something in your hand that you can work with. If you can prove that you made the request and don't receive one, you can take legal actions.

      @@Operation3Sixty100% the case. In most states in the US, it's "employment at will," outside of unions; most non-trade jobs aren't unionized. Many orgs won't even give you a reason to protect themselves. They'll give a vague "just not a good fit, not meeting expectations, etc." The one silver lining is that you can generally collect unemployment, unless you did submerging egregious.

      I was also thinking the same. Sounds aweful to say that even IF you think it in some cases. IF it is, the employee will come to terms with that on their own.
      I just had to fire someone today who would mix up private and work non stop and it would not only impact her performance negatively but also distract everyone around her. Which is crucial as we work in health care and it can be dangerous for patience if we can't focus properly.
      So no it was not in her best interest. And it felt aweful because I do like her as a person. Which is why I made the crusial mistake to keep her in the team for longer than I should have which led to a GOOD EMPLOYEE to decide to not take the permit position I offered to her after the end of her temporary contract.

  • @laurenmacneill1617

    And the big thing to remember when terminating an employee is that you're sending them home to have a difficult conversation with their spouse/children/other family members. Be compassionate and understanding.
    And also, terminating them is not the time to unleash and growl at them about every little thing they've done that has annoyed you. Just don't be a jerk about firing them, plain and simple.

    Always contact a lawyer specializing in labor law before signing anything. Employers have "let people go" for not commiting crimes or unlawful acts as part of their job which is "wrongful termination", i.e. illegal. It is also illegal to "let people go" because of a disability, race, religion, or national origin.

    So as an employee, i will say this, any time i am pulled into Human resources, i bring my phone and a microphone. In most states, its illegal to record a conversation unless at least one person other than the one recording consents to being recorded, thats why when you are called into HR there are usually 2 people, the second person there is the consenting individual to allow recording of the conversation. and because that person consented, they dont have to tell you that you are being recorded. So if you go into HR, and theres 2 people, pull out that microphone, because consent has been given to record, and thats anybody, not just them. Often times in mostly healthcare facilities, human resources is usually composed of some cut-throat bitch trying to save money wherever they can, often when a workplace injury happens, they will do and say anything to scare you out of going after workers comp. So they pull you into their office and secretly record you as you are being interrogated, trying to get you to say something to use against you if it goes to court. You need to be recording all of that shit also. Then you have a copy that they cant edit or modify as damning evidence against you. Fuck Human resources, bunch of scumbags.
