    "Is it just me or...do you have this strange obsession with Australia?"
    "What?"
    Well its just, you know. Every ship class and major station is named after an Australian city or is in some way an Australian pop culture reference-

      He admires the sheer deadliness of Australia. And deadliness is what he needs to ensure that humanity is put first. No corporation shall diminish what humanity's destiny could be. No government shall infringe upon his design. Humanity will be first. And that means ALL of humanity. Without any auxilary rule that might take the rules into their own hands and benefit their own ways.

    "People of Earth. Residents of inner and outer system colonies. Staff of space stations across Sol. Rank and officers of the fleets of Terra. Today is eleventh of August. The year is two thousand forty. In the last eighteen years, humanity has been stricken with a fact - the xenos were real. We divided ourselves, letting our base instincts control us. Some were curious, and wished to engage in conversation. Some were afraid, and chose to roll over and expose their stomachs in submission. But the simplest, and most powerful, of human natures prevailed. We were alerted to a threat, and set out to eliminate it. The day when that happens is, unfortunately, not today. Today is a day of history for mankind for a different reason. When we scrambled to acquire control of assets on earth, nobody expected that our lives would be met with less hardships, that they would improve, that the world would grew to truly learn from the mistakes of old to achieve something far greater than ever before."
    Momentary microphone static fills the air as the speaker takes a pause, drawing in some air. They are not reading off a script.
    "Today we stand united. Today marks the unification of the Eurasian Union, the European Union, and the Empire of Great Britain into one entity. It may not have the most people on earth, as India has twice the population. It may not have the strongest military, as the United States of North America have so effortlessly proven in countless operations. What the newfound Terran Union has is something far greater than any other nation on the planet - we have unity. True unity. Eighteen years ago, we stood divided, fractured against the alien menace. Today, the biggest nation of the planet stands united against the threat, providing the best information network for our missions. USNA stands as our ally, providing the best military officials for the fleets. India stands as our ally, providing a tremendous amount of workforce - automated and otherwise - for the colonies and mining operations out there. Soon, maybe in another eighteen years, all of Earth will truly stand united, as one singular, cohesive entity. One government to rule an interplanetary empire. One nation of people who chose to stand against a threat to our very exist. The future is a bright one, my fellow humans. Today marks one of the most important steps in attaining it. Let our tomorrow be ever brighter."
    Another momentary pause as the speaker tries to subtly wipe a tear that rolled down their right cheek.
    "Humanity First - forever, and always, we stride to a better future. Let us stride together, united."
    [Records of the speech dated 11.08.2040, marking the historical event before the formation of the Terran Empire, recorded by the speaker chosen by the president of the Eurasian Union, chairman of the European Union, and the Great King of Britain]

    But given enough time, and the evidence of what we have accomplished both on earth and in space against the threat, I do not extend that grace period indefinitely. It has been 18 years since the arrival of the enemy on our home. Nine years later their ships started raining from the skies like shooting stars. And now we are pushing them out, slowly, base by base, fleet by fleet, moon by moon and planet by planet.
    Given the enemies propensity for mind control, I have to assume that any alien supporters still remaining on the planet are either deluded or active enemy agents. I do not gamble with the odds. Neither should you."

    If you want to take minimal casualties while assaulting a station, attack it while a fleet is docked. Your ships start further back that way, and with sufficient force can destroy the ships before coming into range of the point defences. As you start out of range of the point defence, you can destroy them one by one as you come into range, minimising casualties. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed, and if you did sorry for the presumption, but when engage an enemy fleet you can change the ship arrangement in the box where it usually says "cloud". I've found that cloud is the worst formation as it means the PD can't overlap, and that the 3-wide wall (High wall?), or with larger fleets the 5-wide wall (Great wall?) leads to far better PD overlap (Although with a lot of ships the game does get a little disorderly with the placement).

    • @dansiegel995
      @dansiegel995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The key is PLASMA - thats how you kill ships 800-1000km away. All the phasers in the world need you to be much closer. Against a station that has max defenses like he just had, you WILL have casualties - the key to reduce them is to have REPAIR BAY on all ships that you plan to receive damage. In his situation, he lost 1 titan. I had the objective and I had 21 BBs. I lost 3 BBs. However I lost 3 more, because of damage and no repair bay - I had to scuttle them. Typically you want to get close as fast as possible, but not against stations. THEIR energy weapons will chew you up worse than your Phasers will do in return. PLASMA, PLASMA, PLASMA. Agreed, the wall formation is MUCH easier to overlap PD, but MORE importantly, ensure your vessels come into firing range of enemy targets at the SAME time.

    • @beyondEV
      @beyondEV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dansiegel995 Plasmas only do 3-4 DPS (damage per second) per slot. Boosted medium Phasers do: 25 DPS (light nose), 10 (medium battery). (titan with 5 advanced laser boosters, leaving 3 slots for component armor, repair and antimatter spiker). to be honest, maybe just 1 pd would do, and a light UV phaser battery giving another 15 DPS would be better.
      having 2 PDs, you get about 8 DPS from plasmas @ 1000km. or you get about 120 DPS @ 800km from the phasers. the phasers will get some malus from dispersion, but if they are UV it's probably not much (it says in the tooltip that the laser booster also reduces the malus, not sure if it's true).
      think something heavy with loots of armor as bait (aliens always focusfire), then send in the more lightly armored titans with phasers. be the time the switch fire, if they do, it's going to be all over.
      should work to take them down without casualties. (designate everything but the bait as transport, then the start further back, and can make a high speed attack run).
      almost have all the tech to test it..., right know i want their stations alive and well. blowing just their mines left them starving for fuel and anything... and those mighty stations are just one more serious drag on their already low resources.

    One VERY small error(?) I noticed: You regularly seem to apply a burn on the yellow control node when trying to make your fleets turn or catch up. The orange one is almost always the right choice. That means the ship is going to coast for longer and then do the burn. I'm only mentioning this because of how many people are probably using this series to learn to play well.

      I'm terrible at maneuvering (I simply need to spend time in the skirmish simulator), but regardless of color, isnt it simply a reflection of the time domain? Want to turn right away, pick the closest node to your ship. Right? Want to maneuver but not worry about it for a minute, then put it on the last node. As time goes by, the nodes advance, and if you maneuvered on the last node and then waited, its exactly like if you maneuvered on the first node however without the wait. I think the max that was destroyed still had over 80% of its nose armor so yeah you could probably cut that nose armor value in half, especially if you send them in larger groups. That all being said the drop bears were surprisingly effective, it would be a shame if you only use them for the threat of orbital bombardment.

    • @xeroprotagonist
      @xeroprotagonist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      As I understand it 80% of nose armor means a 20% chance of hits bypassing armor and coming through to the internals, it doesn't mean they have to chew through the other 80% until you're vulnerable, so cutting the armor in half would be pretty risky. Also I'm pretty sure the Max was destroyed because its radiator was extended and it took a hit early in the combat and it gradually cooked itself to death, the little thermometer on its unit card was bright red. Two other ships also lost their radiators and almost met the same fate in that combat, too. Heat is basically the Achilles heel of massive ships and I don't think Perun has noticed it yet.

    • @jamesm5787

      as for the nose armor damage formula, I have no idea what it is so I am talking out of my ass especially if this ship cooked itself to death. My only point was if "criticals" were bypassing the armor then having 3 meters or 300 meters wouldn't matter on stopping them and there is likely a sweet spot where more armor wouldn't matter due to % of penetrating shots bypassing armor.
      but like I said, I'm talking out of my ass because I don't know the formula

But it's obviously quite difficult for them to open and must require significant resources to maintain. Otherwise, instead of a tiny choke point with significant mass limits, they could just open several and fling fleets at the humans through them. They've only opened one, and they only got to the position they were in thanks to having the element of surprise.
    We also know there's a pretty limited number of Hydra in the galaxy, so I think if humanity beat them back and closed the wormhole, the Hydra would be more likely to just agree to take the L and tell ghost stories to their children about the spooky human boogeyman.

    I'm pretty sure the Max was destroyed mostly by cooking itself to death, not alien fire, although I don't know exactly what got the last hit in. It lost its radiator very early on in the combat and started taking internal damage all over after it saturated its heat sink. Two other ships in the combat also lost their radiators toward the end and would have met the same fate if it had gone on any longer. Especially with very large ships, you need to be careful about pulling radiators in on ships that are taking fire, and you need to make sure they have the heat sink capacity to fight for more than a minute or two before having to extend them.
    Extended radiators are considered unarmored and IIRC the best radiators still have a 1% chance to be hit by any hits against the ship, so it doesn't matter if you have a huge ship with a million points of armor, your ship can still be killed by taking a large volume of fire if you leave the radiators out. That's one of the big problems with the 'small numbers of unescorted massive ships' fleet composition - oversized ships have oversized reactors that produce so much waste heat that it saturates their heat sinks very quickly, so they can't avoid extending their radiators if they're taking fire for extended periods. To avoid taking losses from heat you need to pull in radiators on ships that are taking focused fire and withdraw them from combat if their heat sinks are nearing saturation. Instead of having titans get up close and take lots of fire, you need a screen of smaller ships that can sink heat for a long time up in front, and your titans should stay at extreme range where they won't take high volumes of fire.

    • @PerunGamingAU
      @PerunGamingAU  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dean_l33 True but it would prevent HF from delivering their generous 'care package' through the wormhole. I'm betting the Makemake base will be the exception and HF's marines will be able to take it in tact.

    As for the final mission, it’s pretty much a coup and a hilarious number of assassination missions all rolled into one...

      I'm guessing HF's public opinion campaign in China was greatly helped by the fact they just went and done things to alien mommaship any of the alien offspring would be deeply uncomfortable with. All the while Protectorate concilors keep going to this one particular bridge to shoot themselves in the back of the head.

    A coil round killed that last mothership. They are devastating against large targets that can't dodge.

      Yeah the DPS is insane whenever they get through PD - I think what often happens is you end up disabling PD using things like plasma and phasers, and then coils get through

    Question: Would it be more effective to target the base's power structures and batteries so that the defense lasers/phasers and other offensive systems no longer have power to send beam weapons against the attacking fleet? Also, it seems that the formation issues place you at a significant tactical disadvantage. You need all ships clustered together to assist one another and also place attacking missiles/rods in clusters to overwhelm enemy defenses. Grats on the military successes and uniting the Eurasian Union!

      Given that only the defenses appear in the list of enemy combatants I'd imagine you can't target """civilian""" parts of the station.
