    I agree with others who praise the excellent and well presented commentary. This is one of the very few presenters who does not have to have himself in every shot, which is what most people do, because their video is really about them and not the destination.

    We are from the UK first visited in 2007 and have been to many many places all around the world ever since however Cape Town is still the best place we have ever visited.
    Many people were shaking their heads at us back then saying we were mad to consider venturing there but to say I am glad they did not convince me to go is an understatement.
    The western Cape in general is outstanding with the best thing for me being the diversity of things to do which was endless

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's wonderful. Good for you for not being dissuaded from going to Cape Town. Sometimes hidden gems stay that way because people let their fears take over. South African certainly has its problems, but Cape Town and the broader Western Cape is some of the most naturally stunning land in the world. I consider myself lucky having visited there and hope to go back. I'm sure it has changed a lot since even 2007! Thanks for sharing.

      Actually we have been on 5 occasions to SA including Kruger Park and Rorkes Drift although we are much older than yourselves.
      I noticed from your videos you have been to numerous places we have including Argentina so it seems we have a similar outlook towards travelling.
      You might want to consider Jordan which we visited last year although I would incorporate Lebanon and Israel as well which we didnt have time for due to having to family commitments however the middle east is a real experience.. We were booked for Beirut ,Tokyo and Philippines 4 years ago but it got cancelled for covid.
      Off to Japan in 3 months time so wish you the best on your travels and keep it going because you wont regret it.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jmw-qt2ih That's great. I always love hearing from folks who've been to these places. We also went to Kruger for safari and spent a bit of time in Johannesburg. I'd love to do a big Middle East trip in the next few years and Jordan is squarely on our list. We're off to France/Italy in a few weeks. I hope you have a great time in Japan, glad you're making it happen after it was cancelled a few years back. Can't go wrong there and it has gotten more afordable with their currency being devalued pretty dramatically in the last few years.

      Thank you for the nice comment and questions, Mario! So in Cape Town (and it sounded like all of the Western Cape Province), we didn't experience any loadshedding. Also, most of the hotels in Cape Town have generators so you shouldn't experience any issues when traveling there. Their energy issues aren't quite as bad as somewhere like Johannesburg. In Joburg, we would usually be without power in our AirBnB for 4 hours or so each night. As far as walking at night, we mainly did so in the Camps Bay area where we didn't have any problems at all. The De Waterkant area was also fine at night too. I think most issues happen in the City Centre from what I've read.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Tom! Yes, I was a little extra cautious and got a Typhoid and a Hepatitis A vaccine, mainly because I wanted to eat whatever I wanted without having to worry. It's certainly not necessary, and no vaccine is mandatory unless you're transiting through a country with high rates of Yellow Fever, in that case you'll need a Yellow Fever vaccine. Also, malaria pills are good if you're going on safari.

      Not that bad, honestly. The hike itself is mostly straightforward and probably only scary if you have a serious fear of heights. Even if so, you still get some great vantage points prior to the ladders on your way up.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Patrice, for the Cape Town stop, it was $1,244 roundtrip for flights from Boston and about $208/per night for our hotel at The Tree House Boutique Hotel. You can eat really well at restaurants for $10-$15/person and much cheaper than that if you want. Cape Town is pretty walkable during the day time but Uber is also pretty cheap around town and to/from the airport.

    Want to go to South Africa but worried about the crime rate and the 10-hour-a-day power outages.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Christopher, in my experience, there's always a way to travel to any place in a smart way, regardless of the issues that some cities face. On the crime, we didn't experience any issues whatsoever over two weeks and across multiple cities. That being said, we didn't do much at night, and we took tours with a local guide to places like Soweto which was highly recommended by many. On the power outages, we didn't experience any of that in Cape Town and it varies across this big country. In Johannesburg, we had 4-8 hours a day with no power, but it's fairly easy to plan around that, though obviously not ideal for a tourist. It makes it a lot easier to handle when you understand how much more disruptive it is for locals who live this every day. Just my two cents. Thanks for watching!

    Please note that Nelson Mandela was not in prison for peaceful activism.
    He was a violent terrorism, who attacked Whites and Blacks who didn't share his views.
    He was imprisoned because he didn't renounce violence, which often attacked soft targets, like Church Street.
    Basically, the downfall of South Africa began with his presidency in 1994.
    He brought pornography to 🇿🇦, White Farmers quitting, inflation in high numbers, and the murder rate multiplied by high numbers since 1994!
    He brought nothing good to 🇿🇦 and was made a saint for no good reason!

      This guy's criticism is incorrect about Nelson Mandela. My friends children were pulled out while travelling to school by security police, books confiscated searching if they had any notes on them which was connected to the struggle. Houses were searched and you were not allowed visitors if too many came then it was called a meeting against the government. It was terrible times my son couldn't attend school because we were afraid for his safety as he had to travel by cycle. Many faced the same. We never trusted anyone whose husband was a police man. Sports was separated for people of colour,so was restaurants and cinemas,not to mention public transport. There are those who didn't want to mix and actually hated people of colour. Some still think white people are inferior. If you were working in the Government and the wrong colour pension and medical aid was not allowed. We have freedom now,can travel so thanks for what Nelson Mandela endured we are more free now and see more of our own country,not having to worry about who we are. All countries have crime and corruption only we are more transparent. We able to live where we want if we can afford it. We understand and respect each and everyone irrespective of race,colour and religions.😊

    Cape town is safe for tourists???

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In our experience, it certainly is. Follow the normal safety precautions when traveling to any place to prevent things like pickpocketing and avoiding scams, but we didn't experience any issues. There are some areas that are more tourist-friendly and secure than others such as Camps Bay, so I'd definitely aim to stay there or near De Waterkant which is where we stayed. But other than that, we generally went wherever we needed to during the day time and were just more cautious about that at night. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world and a must-see!

    Serious question : How do you afford these travels ?

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. For starters, this particular trip was our Honeymoon, so it was a big one. But in general, we plan when and where we'll take our trips up to 6 months out so we can plan around them. We utilize credit card points that we've accumulated through spending and welcome bonus points available by opening a card. This usually allows us to at the very least get free flights or free hotels for the duration of our trips. I use Google Flights (in incognito mode) to keep an eye on prices for the dates we're looking at as well. Between this and using sites like Trip Advisor to get great rates on hotels that are highly rated by other travelers, you can really cut down on costs. It's also important to remember that it's a lot cheaper upon arrival when you travel to places like Africa or Southeast Asia. The flights to get there are often steep, but accommodation and daily expenses like transportation and meals will be 1/4 to 1/2 of what you would pay in the United States or Europe. Happy to answer any more specific questions you might have too.
