Back in the late 70s I had a 51 Chevy sedan delivery. It had been a volunteer fire department ambulance and still was fire engine red. 32000 original miles. I went through it with a small block, converted it to open drive and 12 volts. It's life was ended one rainy night by a drunk driver. She hit me so hard from the side that I could sit in the driver's seat and rest my arms on both doors. I miss that car, it was the first car that I bought and owned. If I had or could be out your way I would have been all over it. By the way, the clock winds up like a watch. The little knob at the bottom. The wire is for the light only. Cheers Terry
Reminds me of when we washed my '66 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible, that had been in a garage for 23 years! My Corvair had good paint, and a beautiful condition top! So it was an amazing garage find, that cleaned up good! I had so many amazing memories with that Corvair Monza convertible! I only sold it because I bought an even nicer '65 Corvair Corsa convertible!
A Great Purchase, Love This Body Style! A Through Cleaning and Go Through The Mechanicals And Drive IT The Way It Is! Thanks For Your Video, Always Enjoy Them!⛽⛽⛽
All I can think of is the Tin Woodman getting his first oiling in years. is one of my ideal classics, Silas. Great save, great find. Another Itchy Adventure!
The car has a nice patina Silas, I've seen vintage vehicles that had theirs cleaned up a bit and then hit with a couple of coats of flat clear. I'd do the same to the 51. Make it mechanically healthy and safe again and have the interior redone and just cruise afterwards.
You need to start dropping the, “don’t you know who I am” line on the a holes. I’ve hot a line on a 54 very similar condition except it has been inside. Been sitting but a sentimental owner
You ought to call up one of those TH-cam creators that specialize in car detailing and let them loose on one of your “finds”! PS - Definitely a worthwhile adventure! Thanks for posting!
You paid good money to wash it. I say, TOUGH CRAP to those gettin' all ancie and worked up. You paid for the wash, it's now your time, not there's. 😮😅😂😂❤
A good yard leaf blower can be used to blow out the RAT nest. I discovered it takes 20 min off vac out your car . Of course do this in an open field away from neighbors.
As you said, about as much as a man wants to spent on a flip rig... that said, you never over priced it on the resale and whom ever buys it will want to go the distance for fixing right. It would take longer to take it apart to fix up than putting back in order. My impression of overdrive standard transmissions of that era had many problems so many guys avoided them.... good idea getting your own tools to clean rigs up
If you get your own pressure washer Silas, keep in mind what ethanol can do to a carb that sits too long and make sure it's clear of water before the winter freeze. Thanks for showing us more of the 51, may it's new owner have great success! Stayin tuned! 🤠👍
Very solid car! Someone might be able to get that 216 going again. Since so many people are going with an LS, one can probably find another 6 cylinder or small block at a reasonable price. Guys want 10 grand for something like that here in Flori-duh.
Thanks Silas, really nice car, if you do end up getting a shop vac and pressure washer, it'll make a better video, i'm not saying this one's bad though! (at least you didn't junk this video!)
You mentioned the 235 was an overdrive engine. There was no overdrive in a Chevy in 1951. The 235 was used in front of a Powerglide. Just for everyone's information. The first overdrive transmission in a Chevy car was 1955.
I never could understand why someone would store such a vintage car as that Chevy in an old barn for years and years. Maybe the owner thought that one day he was going to get it running and restore it but it ended up sitting all those years. I would love to see it when it's restored.
Silas, I enjoy watching your videos, But YOU OVERPAID on this one! 700.00 to 800.00 is what that car is worth. 49 to 54 Chevys just aren't that desirable.
That’s unfortunately not the case anymore. Sold a rusty 4 door for $1500 the other day. I sold this car within 24 hours for a $500 profit so I paid a fair price for it
Thanks for saving her!!😮
Wow that car looks so much better😊
I hope the new owner treats that old machine with respect. It deserves to be on the road.
Wonderful video. Another old car saved and going to a new home. 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Wonderfully done
For as old as it is, Its a Nice Car !!
Cool old Chevy! It even has all 4 hubcaps after all those years.
Dear Mr. Silas.
👍👌👏 Well done. Nice car, I simply love this design.
Best regards, luck and especially health to all of you.
thanks for posting this. I always enjoy seeing barn finds being saved. you always do great explaining everything.
Nice car. Whoever bought it has a great start on a good restoration.

What a great first first wash video! It was an excellent choice of vehicles, too.

cool
You could use a leaf blower for the interior!
Underhood too! Shut your eyes first!
😵👍
I have a respirator mask for just that reason. Flying rat nest dust is no fun
235 was used with a power glide!
Yes, a pressure washer is a must have! A REAL, gas powered pressure washer.

I actually like using electric ones. I had one until my dog went on a chewing rampage. Would cost more to repair than a new one 😆
Gotta run that overpriced Ethanol Free gas.
Wouldn't be much of an adventure if everything went as planned and you were sure of the outcome ahead of time, that would be a task or a chore.
Silas= awesome dude!!! vis are very addictive. wish all the best to you and your family 😎😎😎 p.s. what about a video with pops (your dad) ?
It looks good! You just don't find them in the northeast. I'd get it running and drive it as I fix it
Yes..
