Great video! I was born and raise in Valparaíso, and it’s a wonderful city to visit. Totally recomended, by day or night (or more than 1), it’s awesome
@@JonGrossGringo Every day my friend, my house has a visit to the sea, you can see a beautiful sunrise in the mountain range and the sunset even better when the sun hides in the sea with yellow and orange colors.

There We stayed to drink some beers and no one came to bother us. Even More, i started to laugh loud and bother The other People! I am in Love with Valparaíso!
What a nice video, I was born in Vina del Mar and I spent most of my life in Chile in Valpo, now live in Australia. I like the fact that you show Pablo Neruda as an important icon of the city. I will visit again soon!

Hi Jon! so glad that you visited Valpo and Isla Negra, one of my favorites places. I lived in Valpo (I went to the university there) and my mom is from Isla negra, so we used to go for holidays every year. I think you should visit Isla Negra again and go to " EL TOTORAL". Thanks for these videos, it is nice to see the places that I used to walk time ago ( meeemoriesss) Greetings from Winnipeg
valparaiso is one of THE places besides Santiago and Patagonia that tourists flock to. And for it seems to be for a good reason! rich in culture!!! Also, do you have an ND fader? Most shots of you talking are way overexposed!!!
Valparaiso, unfortunately, gets sold as a "must see", "cultural" destination. I wouldnt say tourists "flock" there because of its "charm", "culture" or anything at all really. Very few tourists go there knowing anything about the city, most just go there because its relatively close to Santiago and expect nice beaches in the summer time, not knowing that neighbouring Vina del Mar is actually where they wanna go (for beaches). I found Valpo to be a very ran down city, where its people do very little to keep it clean, are actually some of the unfriendliest in the country and it can be a little (or a lot) unsafe for MOST tourists. I lived and worked there for just a bit under a year, 5 years total in Chile, and I dont get why everything you read or see online about this city tells a whole different story from whats actually seen in person. I think its a really crazy city, very small and theres not much to do, theres hardly any work, things are expensive, people are very rude and unfriendly, they piss and go number 2 on the streets, there are a million and one stray dogs, garbage everywhere and the food sucks. To me and most of the tourists/foreigners I met there, that was the impression....BUT it can be a lot of fun if you know how to carry yourself and dont act like the typical douchy tourist. Valpo is a special city, with a strange sense of identity, there isnt a specific 'culture' that ties it all together, just few customs and traditions. Its people love it and hate it at the same time. They dont want to live there but they wouldnt live anywhere else for any reason. They want better, but they arent open to any type of change whatsoever. Businesses dont last, most people dont go back, almost everyone that visists gets robbed at least once...thats the real Valpo....so i dont get this whole "Valpo is a magical city, full of culture and rich in traditions and positivity and good this and that". Valpo sucks for the ppl that live there, it smells bad, things dont work properly, its dirty and theres not a whole lot to do....BUT thats what makes it interesting. There is lots of HISTORY, and lots of influences from all corners of the world and thats what makes it UNIQUE. Valpo disappoints if you expect it to be what people tell you, but it makes a hell of a destination if you go there with an open mind and live every experience to the fullest and learn from everything you see...the views, the hills, the bay, the sounds i would say, not the people and not the "culture"...Valpo is literally what you make it, not what people tell you it is....
@@loveisloveluv I agree only w/last thing you said.. "it is what you make it". Based on your time there sounds like you should have hightailed it out instead of sounding miserable. A travelers experience is uniquely their own, I don't buy into your negatively for 1 moment. Happy travels to all who choose to venture where they wish! Have a great time w/fond memories 💖
Hi Jon, I really liked the intro to this video. I look to your videos for information about Chile. There just aren't a lot of people featuring this country. Some thoughts. I think you could have made this video 30 minutes and done more of a tour style video. Maybe a top 10 things of Valpo? Museums, landmarks, industries, etc. Sometimes the background of your video is washed out by the brightness. I don't know how videographers address this but I'm guessing it's challenging. Thank you for the work you do promoting the great things about Chile!
Thanks for the comment and generous comment! Much appreciated! I would love to make a 30 minute video one day but for not it's impossible because I travel by myself most times and have to edit it myself and have it all ready for the next week. One day I'd love to have a film crew to help me do what you described!
Beautiful video! 💕 i love Valparaiso, it’s a magical place! I agree the most beautiful of Pablo Neruda’s houses is the one in Isla Negra, I remember going there when i was in high school and i loved the decoration inside! Thank you for taking me back to those beautiful memories! 😍 ❤️

Saludos.
I don't know if you know this, but Valparaiso was the place where a war between Chile and USA was almost triggered, it happened when the relationships between the two nations were already bad thanks to the political involvement of the USA in the civil war in Chile. The incident is known as the Baltimore Crisis. What happened was that when the USS Baltimore docked in Valparaiso in 1891, the crew of the Baltimore went for some drinks at a Bar called True Blue, they got very drunk at the bar and started to cause trouble and even spat on a picture of Arturo Prat(Which is a national hero who died in battle in the Pacific War). As a result, a mob of Chileans started a fight with the sailors killing 2 of them and injuring other 20 sailors. This caused an uproar in the USA because the Chilean government didn't want to apologize or pay compensations for the incident, the US firmly believed that this was a premeditated attack and they deemed the Chilean government responsible for not protecting the sailors. In addition to this, Argentina offered their help to the USA to invade Chile. In the end, Chile had to pay a compensation and offer their apologies to the USA government in order to prevent a war against Argentina and the USA.

Valpo disappoints if you expect it to be what people tell you, but it makes a hell of a destination if you go there with an open mind and live every experience to the fullest and learn from everything you see...the views, the hills, the bay, the sounds i would say, not the people and not the "culture"...Valpo is literally what you make it, not what people tell you it is....
loveisloveluv amen amen!
Hi Jon,
I really liked the intro to this video.
Aww..thanks for showing my birth City. I'm from Cerro Alegre, Valparaiso. ❤
Maria Iler it was my absolute pleasure! I had so much fun exploring Valparaíso and can’t wait to go back one day! Have a great week!
Aguante Valpo 🤘❤️
Beautiful video! 💕 i love Valparaiso, it’s a magical place! I agree the most beautiful of Pablo Neruda’s houses is the one in Isla Negra, I remember going there when i was in high school and i loved the decoration inside! Thank you for taking me back to those beautiful memories! 😍 ❤️

Yes it is worth the visit. Soy de Punta Arenas and let me tell you, Valpo is a very beautiful and unique place ❤
Saludos.

my dad sometimes go to valparaiso, but i hate that he left my family
Slorm Raptor no way!!!!!!!! Super super interesting!!! Thanks so much!
