    Is there an update video to these? I’m getting ready to deflask 40 tissue cultures and I want to see if your method worked.

      Hey @dangerouslydeliciousbbq6097 & @VeryKinkyCurl - I think I may have discussed these guys in one of my later videos last summer, but I never did an official update because (a) most of these plants died except two, and (b) I kinda got turned off the whole TC/deflasking process due to buying a lot of bad quality tissue cultured plantlets from sketchy sellers, tbh.
      The long and the short of it is: I had a lot of bad luck and wasted a lot of money in the process, got pretty annoyed by the whole thing because my seller(s) were honestly ripping people off, and ended up not placing another order after summer 2023.
      I know it's probably not great practice to send folks away from your own channel (lol), but I'd suggest checking out one of the other channels that cover TC really well like @plantsinjars - that will definitely help you out _much_ more with working with TC plantlets than anything I could offer!

    It doesn't look like the supplier is a good tissue culture source. I would be very upset if I received babies like that.

    I would open the contaminated ones last.

    Hey again, planty peeps! Had some fun and ordered in a few tissue culture (TC) plantlets earlier this month and recorded my experience deflasking, sterilizing, and transplanting them for posterity, as well as how to kick off the acclimation process. I thought I'd post how it went here, all the while passing along some of the info I dug up on the topic.
    I definitely learned a few useful things for the next time around... and since I have another TC order arriving sometime this week, that "next time around" will be coming up pretty soon. 😉
    Let me know if you find this interesting and/or useful! I'm always looking for suggestions for new topics to cover. If you're interested in TC, want to share some of your knowledge on the topic, or have suggestions for me -- don't hesitate to drop a comment below!

      Thanks man! What an interesting fact, actually i just ordered a "mint" monstera and had no idea about its no id condition 🙏✨️ thanks for the info and congrats on the channel 🤙🏼✨️

      @@jesuscuevas2030 That's awesome, the Mint Monstera is one of my favourite looking plants when they size up and have great variegation. Come back and me know how it turns out when it starts to size up!

      @@theproppist Shure! I hope it'll be a fast grower, i've heard that some varieties tend be really slow growers such as M. Thai

    Did you do a follow up on these TC’s

      Hi there - thanks for the question. Unfortunately I didn't have the best quality plants come through in the order in this video. I did one order a month or two afterwards and have 2 or 3 plants left from the second one, but that first order was a pretty shitty experience - I won't order from that supplier again.
      From the first order, I do still have the P. Caramel Marble, but I've kept it in a small container and it's sizing up very slowly. I'm also concerned that it's not even variegated, in which case I think my seller scammed me. I won't be sure until I take it out of its current enclosure and let it breathe a bit. The Monstera Mint died on me almost immediately, as did its replacement (well documented later in the channel and I discuss it in my next video as well), and the P. Red Andersons were all pretty much DOA. I had 2 of the batch that survived. One was attacked by mold well after I had it deflasked (couple of months later) and it had been doing pretty well prior - I think I probably should have done a better job of cleaning the plantlets on the way out of their original substrates. The second and final remaining Red Anderson unfortunately died while I was on vacation - it dried out on a heat mat I forgot I had left on,
      All in all, what I'd change in this video is the cleaning process. I would have spent much longer (15m+) cleaning the plantlets. Mold/fungal overgrowth seems to be the thing that gets you immediately if you don't clean all of the original media off properly and I don't think I did here. I'll have to do a post-mortem at some point but I'm honestly pretty burnt out by TC importing in general now. 😬 x

    hey! what a greate video man! justr wanted to ask what "noid" means, im not a native english speaker and im having touble translating that word :( , i saw that word on the monstera mint "noid" thnaks in advance :3

    • @theproppist
      @theproppist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey @jesuscuevas2030, thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it!
      "NOID" is just shorthand for "No ID", as in "no identification" or "unidentified". It's often used with plants when no positive identification has been made and likely won't ever be made. In the case of the Monstera "Mint", there are a couple of forms we know about, but the prevalent one is not currently identified. It may still be classified at some point in the future as a variant of M. deliciosa, but for now most sellers refer to it as "NOID".
      If you're interested in learning more about the Mint, MonsteraX has a good writeup on the history from last year over here:

    curious could you just use moss ? I'm expecting a mint soon and wondering about that

    • @theproppist
      @theproppist  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Absolutely, you can totally use moss, the reason I avoid it for TC plants is a combo of how finicky it is for retaining moisture and how fast it dries out in open air. In an enclosed container, you need to be super careful about how moist the moss going in is so you don't rot out your plantlet. If you're in open air or a larger container (not suggested with TC plantlets, they're pretty sensitive), then the top layer of moss has a tendency to dry out very quickly given any kind of airflow.
      I used Fluval Stratum in this example as a first-timer, but based on my more recent experiences with deflasking TC plantlets, in the future I think I'd probably go either 100% perlite (cheaper and reliable) or 50%/50% perlite/stratum. Also, tree fern or a combo of TF + perlite would probably work just as well, but I have yet to try it. Hope that helps!

    • @MyLocsMyPlants
      @MyLocsMyPlants 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theproppist awesome! thanks so much for the info. I'll give perlite a try and maybe add a leca layer at the bottom .

    • @theproppist
      @theproppist  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MyLocksMyPlants Just whatever you do... don't do sphagnum moss on top if LECA. I tried it a few times in an enclosed environment (seedlings) and it did not go well. Tree fern on LECA works ok just because it doesn't get quite as soggy but I'm probably going to avoid doing layered LECA with the softer natural substrates in the future.
