I second that. I love kayak fishing! I also love kayak fishing! I got into it because like you said it was much cheaper than getting a bass boat, a trailer, and a truck to haul it on. Not to mention I don't have anywhere to store a bass boat so I'd have to rent a storage space or have a marina store it in the winter. I bought my first kayak for $600 mainly because I live on the water but never had an efficient way to get out and fish where the fish are. This year I bought the Old Town Sportsman Autopilot 136 because I wanted the motor and a standing platform. Worth every penny!
@@YouSeeThingsLikeThat Absolutely no doubt that Kayak bass fishing is a very serious trend that should be taken seriously. Seems like a total value add for this channel, especially given their depth of knowledge on fishing as a whole (especially bass fishing).
Hey Matt, I LOVE this style of video. The POV fishing and the camera up front to record you while you talk and show us stuff. Coming out to a new lake for a new experience and basically just taking us along. I'd love to see more of these!
You and Tim have to go out together on kayaks. Same lake, same time but both perspectives on how you each attack a new body of water! That would be a special one!
I really appreciate videos like this because it shows the reality that all of us go through as fisherman everyday isn't a smash fest ..the grind is real
Great video. I fish in lakes and ponds in Connecticut. My kayak is a lifetime 10' . This was very much like what I experience most of the time with the exception of the weather. I bought one of the rods and reels you suggested last Christmas. I absolutely love it!!! Thanks for what you do.
Matt, really enjoyed the vid! True, no lunkers but so realistic! So glad you took us along on a less than perfect day. You got a good memory out of this place for sure. God bless!!
Simplicity is key on a kayak like you mentioned-I couldn’t count how many times I’d take too much tackle and never re-tie anything different that was on my rod previously.
Thank you for an incredible video experience. I doubt that you could have choreographed a more exciting experience. You are so correct about anglers who want to fish off shore; however, will not be able to invest in a bass boat. Limited space is certainly a challenge. As your precious time permits, please provide more kayak experiences to this wonderful community. Thank you again.
I am a young bank fisherman and it is refreshing to hear that you don’t “need” 30 rods and every color and size of each lure to catch some fish. Great vid.
Great to see someone who shares my thoughts on yak fishing. You can't bring everything, but you CAN bring a good mix of everything. When you have minimal space on a fishing rig, gear selection is key. I also run 3 rods, a hardbait box, a terminal box, and a good mix of plastics. If you're on a kayak, don't underestimate the incredible versatility of a texas rig.
There's some really good fish in that lake my Dad and I travel down there from Johnson City, TN twice a year. You have to weed through a bunch of lil guys to get to the bigger fish. Bluegill and Crappie are the main forage in that lake. The s-waver and gantarel are Deadly in that lake towards the back end of it on the stump flats and points
“What are we doing?” Matt asks! Enjoying a typical afternoon in the south. Pop up thunderstorms that dump a lot of rain really quickly and then are gone. Welcome to the southeastern United States!
Haha....I was fishing down on the ohio river one night when all the sudden you could hear the rain coming across the river....bank damn near washed out before we could even get back to the car
Such an awesome kayak setup Matt. I have so many good things to say about this video, but I’ll just say it’s one of your best. Real world fishing in a beautiful lake.
Fantastic content. I started on a kayak then to a Jon boat now fish out of a decent tracker bass boat. I always feel so included in y’all’s videos as I’m sure everyone who watches does with all the different content you guys provide. Outstanding!!!!! Best channel for every fisherman rod every type I’ve ever seen. Great job guys!!!!
Watching you guys crush it fishing so many different ways and then seeing u go through a day like I have had many times as I have as well made me feel not alone in those days. Catching some dinks sometimes offsets getting skunked. Relieved u never click bait us with a "almost struck by lightning on new lake." Always quality content!!!
That was so much like my average day on the water! Except I don't usually catch as many small fish even. Awesome! You are my kind of Angler. More stuff like this would be great for me. Every video I turn on shows Pros catching Big Fish. I know how that goes, but watching someone go through what I experience is fun. You guys are the best.
As a California guy who moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee several years ago, it be like that sometimes. The rain in the southeast can be unpredictable and the equivalent of a torrential downpour in the Amazon, but that's the beauty of it (not to mention you get the best bites before and after)! =) I loved this video Matt; it was very relatable and great to watch. I'm looking forward to more kayak videos!
Glad to see you back in the kayak a lot of guys from my kayak fishing club watch and love your channel and could not wait to see you in the yak again. All i could think of is welcome to my world when the sky opened up on you because this has happened to us many times this year. Also minimizing i think is key as you said and not to do too much research is also very important thanks again for all that you guys do.
Love the Kayak fishing videos. I'm exclusively a kayak fisherman and it's nice to see our side of the sport get some love from you guys. Still the best channel on youtube.
Wow I love the reality. Your right there has to be decent ones looks like a nice lake. I love this video. The Pro showing how it can be difficult. Good stuff
You stuck it out, Awesome 👏. I really like the rod and gear breakdown for Kayak fishing. Please do more Kayak videos along with y’all’s outstanding advice and recommendations.

I'm a YAK fisher as well and on all bodies of water, so let's see much more of this style of fishing and sportsmanship, if you would please!
Don't know where you are but that is typical weather for PA. That's why I carry a six by nine mini tarp in my kayak. Sometimes i make it to shore, sometimes i just cover up out on the water and ride it out. Good on you for grinding through it.

I love when you post the struggle videos. Not because I enjoy seeing you struggle, but because it let's me know its not just me lol. This is fishing some times. And its still a great freakin time.
I have a bass boat and a kayak. I enjoy fishing from both. Kayaks allow you to approach fish in extreme stealth mode. I put removable outriggers so I can safely stand up to pitch and flip.
Love your stick-to-it-ness Matt, I've been in those storms before and know it takes some stubborness and the love to fish in any condition 🙂🎣 Great attitude throughout,I always get something out of the your vids, thanks for sharing
I’m sure u here this all the time. But for me your channels is the most informative one I’m subscribed to. Watching your videos with out a shadow of a doubt has landed me more fish this summer. I really enjoy your 5 lures of the month videos.
Some of the best fish I’ve caught have been right in between storms love the commitment bro.,hands down props and respect ✊ man. That grind is real. 👊🏼💯
East TN and W NC are actually rainforests based on precipitation. Lived here my whole life and regardless of forecasts, I also have a plan for what to do when the rain comes. Matt, if you like small kayak lakes.. Indian Boundary isn’t far from you. I’ve caught a few decent ones there. Hard to beat the scenery!
I really enjoyed this video. It shows the real struggles some of us go through just to try to get one decent fish. I've had many days on the water very similar to this 😂
Don’t feel bad about stubbornness my friends and I finally got a day out together and it rained with mosquitos attacking half the day but we didn’t weeken. Stay hooked.
Had a kayak/camping trip on Lake James this summer that went like this. Paddled a mile to our campsite. As soon as we came aground the bottom fell out. Absolutely drenched. Once you’re soaked there’s nothing to do but go catch fish.
Love this video! I Just got my kayak all finished up. I put a 65lb Brushless trolling motor on a ekc mount on the stern and just got the 12v 100ah lifepo4 battery today also added some led nav and cockpit lights and made a custom transducer mount for my helix. As soon as this cold is gone I'm going out!
Welcome to bass fishing in a kayak brother!!! You can’t move as fast as you can in a boat but you are able to get into tight areas in that yak. Try nor cal in February with wind and rain for nor cal yak a bass tourneys. Miss you guys out here but don’t blame you for moving. I fish Tim’s old home lake a few days a week, y’all need to do a trip back out here.
Great video man. Love you pushing through the elements with a kayak, that was awesome. Not enough videos like this out there. And that Old Town Autopilot is BADASS. You should do more videos fishing from it. Great content, keep it coming brother. ✌️
In the past 18monthsI went from no boat, to a regular kayak, to a fishing sit on top kayak, to a 11’ pedal kayak with electronics and like 8 rods. Ive been making it work even on big ass northern Michigan lakes even great lakes fishing 150’ for lake trout. Spot lock sounds like a dream though
@@8.21productions9 Just got a check weather reports, warm water only, waterproof cell tethered to the kayak, stay within a mile off shore, and wear your PFD. People take these kayaks out in the open ocean all the time, if you get a dry suit, and emergency transponder you can extend your range and times of year safely too
I like to see you fishing on a kayak, I think most people and most times are fishing on a Kayak with couple of rods. It is so funny when it star to rain and rain hard, what a crazy day!
This was great to watch! I kayak fish in smith lake here in Alabama. I live here so on weekends and after school I also ride a side by side to pond hop and bank fish. One pond has a jon boat that I have access to. This video had a lot to learn for me! Thanks Matt!
Shoot! I have a crate with 6 PVC rod holders zip tied in. I can carry as many as 8 rods. I usually carry 6, sometimes 7. It's not so much that I need to do 6 different things. But I have that option without having to retie. Sometimes I'll have up to 3 topwaters and a frog tied on.
I hit a lot of really skinny water with kayak and wading. Love the content, only difference I make in gear is short rods. 6’6” is about as long of a rod as I take and a 3’6” rod is really handy for quick casting.
Hey Matt love tour and Tim's channel awesome seeing you on the yak I have a mariner 3 raft that I have been killing it in my lake it is to small to launch anything bigger at that location but what makes it nice is it's not pressured at all super nice keep the content coming Matt we love you guy!!!....
man… that gantrell jr has been putting in work for me this summer. the only thing that really disappointed me about it, is one of the fins broke off from it just hitting the water. I didn’t bounce it off of anything hard, no rocks, docks, or anything like that. I still throw it, it just doesn’t dart off the way it used to.
Honestly, this is one of my favorite videos of yours. It goes to show that sometimes, in some places, you just have to go with the flow…. And it won’t always be giants biting. I’m surprised you didn’t get any quality fish though, since there seemed to be a decent density of little ones. You’d figure that HAS to be some bigger bass. Anyway, as always, enjoyed the video… and thanks for the kayak tips !
Tactical Bassin! You guys have provided some stellar vids, i use a colorado xt , 30lb trolling motor, homemade rod rack , its awesome! And i get alot of complements! Calm waters rough waters! I have no complaints with it!
I tend to overcompensate in my kayak, but the lures and baits normally are tailored to time of year, fish being targeted and type of water I'm fishing. So I'll have a different loadout if I'm targetting LM in the spring on a lake vs SM in the summer on a river. But always have a few items that cover the unexpected.
The fishing not much, but l, love going such beautiful country. Good place to relax and forget your worries. I've been caught in the same situation there before.
If you have time please come up to Boone Lake Northeast Tennessee. It has river system off of it as well. I haven't had alot of yrs on it yet but the two yrs of bank fishing it and like 2 months of kayak fishing it I've done good. And I still use a crummy paddle kayak lol
"So many clone fish"....LOL :). Still fun to watch a guy that obviously has enough loot to take out a boat instead be on a kayak (albeit expensive), get rained on multiple times and stay out to fish because he's stubborn (loves to fish). That's why he has almost 450k subs.
Obviously, Not a Trophy pond😂😂😂 Seems like the locals could eat a few (sorry, I said it) there’s something to be said for managing the fishery and culling out some tiny bass, at least until a few can grow to the size to eat a few tiny bass. It’s still a healthy lake. I’ve been caught drifting the Cumberland River without my rain gear,( dumbazz) in the spring and it got cold and wet😂😂😂 you’re a trouper for sticking it out Matt.✊🔨
This one lake that I used to fish, known to have some big ones but mostly small, I come one day just to see groups of 4-6 pound bass all on the bank, they wouldn’t eat a single lure so I ended the day with just a 4 pounder on a bluegill. Since that day every place that has a general populations of small bass I find the big ones typically follow the baitfish because also on that day they were feasting on perch and bluegill.
Kayak fishing with a paddle is hard work, but it's fun hard work. Invest or make a good anchor pole and that helps alot when your shallow enough. But either way it doesn't take long and you learn to cast with the drift I guess..You either love it or hate it..good job out there...
I was thinking the same thing watching this one. I have been in the same situation. Rain, dinks, rain, dinks till I just had to laugh. I wanted to be able to tell him. Drop the Chad and grab a zoom green pumpkin worm...
Great run-down of tackle kayak essentials. But I’m curious how those 7’+ rods worked for you? I use 6’9” typically; just what I’m used to in my much smaller yak than yours. I’d add one more lure that is a must-have: whopper Plopper. For lakes and ponds with smaller fish, the 90 slays. 110 if you suspect biguns are in there, but the 90 will catch big fish as well. Oh, and you forgot a chatterbait!? That must have hurt when you saw that murky water.
I had a good chuckle at this video, as this has been my last two weekends. I got pushed off the lake, early, both time, due to some serious rains. Both times, I'm soaking wet, dragging my ride up the same muddy bank, by a rope, loading my gear, and riding home, just dripping everywhere. July rains on the east coast have been rough, this year. And, just like you, I caught nothing but dinks.
I wouldn't write that place off the list yet. Right now is a feast or famine time to be fishing. One of our lakes here in NC that is known for big bass, and huge bags at weigh in, is producing nothing but dinks. Took 10 lbs to win the past two weekends, where normally 18-20 lbs might get you a check, maybe. So, I'd say revisit that place in a month or two and see if things changed.
You inadvertently answered a question I had asked awhile back concerning the minimum number of rods you’d need to fish most techniques, seems like 3-4 would cover 95% of all techniques, at least well enough to be able to catch some fish.
2 in my opinion depending on how dialed in you want to be. I usually just keep a med heavy baitcaster, and a med spinning reel. Usually keep a reaction bait, or heavy cover bait, and a finesse presentation on the spinning rod, often times a stick bait. Sometimes it would be nice to have the extra, but space is a concern on a kayak.
I've got more of the Greg Blanchard approach on my kayak. 8 rods big tackle trunk. Since it is my bass boat with the titan 10.5, I do have a smaller one though for even skinnier waters. That one is a 2 or 3 rod yak.
I love fishing in the rain. One time I got caught in lightning and had to go hide in the woods as well. The winds picked up out of nowhere and the trees were swaying sooo badly. I eventually was like screw it, and decided to go book it to the boat ramp. Well right as I moved, a huge branch fell exactly where I was standing and would have probably killed me. Close call for sure! I def do not push the limits with storms at all anymore.
FANTASTIC Video!! The three rod explanation and terminal tackle/baits was PHENOMENAL!! I see you have the line linked with your setups so do you not use a leader, then, for "general setups?"
I would love to see more kayak content as it truly is a wonderful way to fish for those of us whom can’t afford a bass boat. Also, it’s a growing sector of the sport and I think you’ll attract more viewers with it.
Keep the kayak content coming!!
You had the answer in your hands earlier... BFS! Make those little fish fun!
Hope you do more of these kayak fishing videos. Love fishing from my OT PDL 132. Subscribed
Always fun to explore new lakes. Bummer there weren't better fish in there though.
I def got a good laugh out of Matt in the wind and rain!!
You guys do a great job of teaching really enjoy watching this channel a lot!! Thanks 😊
Not too bad (except the rain). You did well to catch what you did. Kudos.
Yes to your first question, sometimes during the spring i wait until im on the water to tie anything on
Hey Matt, missin Cali and Clearlake yet? haha. I like how every time he sets the hook he just laughs.
Love a good Matt video!
Ten thumbs up for this one. Love the kayak videos, would love to see more.
The fishing not much, but l, love going such beautiful country. Good place to relax and forget your worries. I've been caught in the same situation there before.
More Kayak Vidz Matt ;) Thanks!
The one thing that kayak doesn't have, that the big boat does, when that thunder starts cracking is...a big ol Merc 250 to put that thing up on pad! 😆
Love the yak videos!
I love fishing in the rain. I catch some of my biggest bass. Great video. Peace out
If you have time please come up to Boone Lake Northeast Tennessee.
I own an old town 10”6’ pdl drive and I love it you can stand up no problem at all easy to maneuver and lifetime hull warranty
Bfs lake! Beautiful country!
Great video way to stick with it. That did look like fun great channel
Kayak fishing with a paddle is hard work, but it's fun hard work. Invest or make a good anchor pole and that helps alot when your shallow enough. But either way it doesn't take long and you learn to cast with the drift I guess..You either love it or hate it..good job out there...
You know when you're a bass and Matt Allen calls you buddy, your small...
100% facts. Lol
That’s about as many MA “buddy’s” as I think I’ve heard
I was talking in general, I feel like when you have a well prepped kayak you can get away with 4 if you keep everything else to a minimum.
@@richardbossman9875 you can, but can be klunky in my opinion. Just depends on how you set them up I suppose
Awesome video man I do a lot of bank fishing and I catch some pretty nice ones
