Dominions 5 Basic Nation Analysis - MA Agartha

  • MA Agartha is a powerful sacred nation, but not entirely in the traditional sense; their recruitable sacreds, while respectable, are by no means the strongest part of their arsenal. Rather, MA Agartha can field a powerful variety of sacred summons, centered around their extremely durable and hard-hitting sacred statues. Agarthan statues are mindless and highly resistant to damage, requiring specialized strategies to combat; natural resilience combined with the ability to benefit from a wide array of blesses can make them very tough to fight, and these units provide a cornerstone of Agarthan midgame strategy. By leaning heavily on statues, a variety of more specialized national summons, and a robust lineup of priest-mages featuring excellent Earth magic and a few valuable crosspaths, Agartha can leverage their strong midgame armies and good buff access into a very dangerous lategame plan.

    Take a hellish Precision bless and have your god cast wind guide to turn those boulder throwers into the 3x national champion basketball dream team. Its a terrible, terrible meme, but it is funny as hell.

    Marble Oracles do have a niche use - if you have any astral magic anywhere in your nation, you can forge a Crown of Leadership and suddenly those Oracles can lead small raiding parties of Sentinels and bless them, and if every unit on your side of the field is mindless - as Oracles and Sentinels are - that counters a lot of potential counters to armies that rely heavily on mindless units but leaders with minds themselves. It makes it VERY hard for Soul Slay. Enslave Mind, Mind Blast, etc to counter your raiding parties like they could if you were leading your raiding parties with recruitable mages.

      maybe arcane command bless would be a good option since agartha has no innate astral?

    Hard skin for the statues on a dormant rainbow is a very solid choice for MA Agartha, as the resistances can be taken through fire, water and air blesses. Hard skin is pretty nice for your shard guards as well.

    One example of very powerful fuck you battle strategies is similar to the undead spam nations: never tiring chaff (statues), heat from hell and (forgot name, death exhaustion battlefield spell). Really puts the clock on the enemy in killing 27 prot-eleresistant statues. Sure they have low stats with eleresist, but that hardly matters vs fatigued enemies. A few curse of stones can be added with rune smashers to speed up the exhaustion too. It's quite tough to deal with.

    Going heat can be very useful, pale ones and statues can cross rivers, giving you tactical advantages. Cold removes that advantage, besides hitting you for being cold blooded on the oracles and pale ones. Cold essentially removes options from you for a slight movement penalty to enemies. I don't think it's worth it.

      I understand the logic of cold here. Agartha has very slow armies so they struggle to respond to threats. Anything to help slow your opponents could be important in certain scenarios.
      Then again, maybe just taking the right magic paths on your pretender to cast murdering winter or breath of the desert would do a similar job in slowing your opponents down and you could avoid the anti-synergy of using cold blooded with cold. :P

    Oracle can also get f1d1 for the fire booster, which may be useful

    True galaxybrain is taking an E10 pillar, with ma agartha's bonus bless point you can have Hard Skin AND the F&S resist bless.

    Going cold scales is a bad idea for MA Agartha, not only because of the cold blooded, but also because magma children is much better in hot provinces

    I'm not sure that Agartha has the most sacred summons in the game, but they certainly have a lot and good utility as well. Another important thing for your statues is that they all have pierce and slash resistance as well, which makes them real nightmares to damage with most mundane troops/weapons.

    What about the Reconstruction on the bless? Your statues are gonna get chipped down over time without it, especially bad with the Marble Oracles, and I do like those as an autonomous raiding/ani raiding forces.Very sad about the Quickness loss when it comes to MA Agartha, it used to be very nice, especially since as Agartha you are vulnerable to being skele spamed and turn timer killed, as your statues while though and very good vs elites have trouble burning through chaff, but I guess that's what magma children are for. Fire shield would be an option to consider too

    • @GeneralConfusionPlays
      @GeneralConfusionPlays  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Reconstruction is a perfectly viable option; IMO it's not really *necessary*, but it can be a solid choice. MA Agartha is pretty much the only nation that takes it, anyway.

    WHy is the reconstruction not absolutely vital for the effectiveness of your Statues?

  • @Slayerlord13

    Considering how much earth magic you have as Agartha, lategame your oracles are going to cast marble warriors/army of gold/lead, right?
    15/20 prot umbrals - funny meme or actually effective even that late in the game? Are umbrals worth the death gems at that stage of the game?

    • @GeneralConfusionPlays

      Yes, and yes. Umbrals are quite strong, especially when buffed with extra prot and strength.

    Also one of the more ridiculous blesses is +5 protection earth bless, making your sacred statues ridiculous. Marble oracles in particular, if you add some shitty armor on top of the insane natural protection. It also helps out the shard glaives sacred. From the very high earth bless, you can add 3 of the other elements for minor blesses, either elemental resistances or attack, defense, precision. Either being useful.

    • @theral056
      @theral056 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Addendum: probably going dormant, possibly imprisoned. The +5 prot while useful for your recruitables only becomes really effective with the statues. So scales should be fine.

    • @theral056
      @theral056 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having such a high earth pretender also nets you a couple extra statues with summoning ritual which is nice.

    I am an *idiot,* so please disregard all of my advice, but from my experience Troglodye slaves are a fair anti-trash trash unit to throw at swarms of lightly armored stuff.
    Is that the right terminology?

    • @Madhattersinjeans

      Personally I would combo them with some kind of wall to protect them and let them run around the flanks of the enemy. But yeah the trample means weak units and units smaller than them will get tossed around and their formations disrupted.
      You would need to experiment a little to get the correct positioning due to trogs being higher combat speed than the rest of agarthas stuff.
