I'm sorry that Miraphone is no longer a major part of tuba culture in Southern California. When I bought my horn Miraphone was the standard tuba here with Roger Bobo and Tommy Johnson the most prominent players. Thank you.
I was a Tuba major at The University of Texas at Arlington 1962-1963 Besson was my instrument and also played in the 'Crazy Band ' at Six Flags Over Texas. We played Dixieland, Ragtime , and marches. The Park had purchased a beautiful double b'flat Besson and then painted it bright pink. I was dumbfounded but then they also dressed me as a clown. All in all it was great, wonderful fun. We were allowed to play whenever and wherever. Sometimes I really miss playing these absolutely beautiful and wonderful sounding instruments...and would have loved to play one of these. When I saw that immaculate rotor movement, I was astonished and also a little bit ashamed. I doubt that any of my horns except maybe (and only MAYBE) my Dotzauer have such quality machining.

Before the short, angled tubes are soldered to the valve casing at 4:29 are they checked with a jig for straightness or is this done by eye? The casing is then drilled or reamed getting rid of the tubing inside the casing?
