I love Uni! In one of my old saves, I literally sent anyone and everyone there. I'd have two lots with over 12 Sims in them (mods) and let them do whatever they wanted whilst I cheated their skills. They had everything they needed from hot tub, pinball, TV, hobby objects etc. Everyone graduated with the highest degree. I don't use Greek Houses, not sure why. Not everyone will enjoy this type of playstyle but at the time it was a lot of fun. I spent most of my time watching what my Sims did and pairing Sims together. 10-11 generations of fun & happiness.
I love the idea of having sims choose what majors they want depending on what they want but I've seen that the majors they roll for are based on their aspirations (each aspiration having two possible options and pleasure having 4) and I don't know if I really like that they don't choose from ALL the degrees. Saw this on a tumblr post by plumbtales.
I am in awe that you play with 7 sims at the same time :). I also use Cyjon's university and education mods, as well as simNopke's College Dependent Adult Stage Days Mod. It syncs students' ages with the rest of the population without the need to use SIMPE.
I loved the University expansion when it came out and still rank it as one of my favorite expansions in the franchise, although I am less impressed with the Sims 3 and especially Sims 4 versions. I play the semesters full length. Uni is a major source of population growth for me, both because my sims often marry someone from uni and because if they want a townie to come to uni, the townie becomes playable. So getting the new citizens up to speed takes a lot of time, I certainly don't want less time!
Oh dear, your families are SO HUGE. I'd never make my sims have more than 3 children. And usually amongst the 3 siblings, one of them doesn't have children of their own. Although there is one prominent exception.
I love playing uni! I actually set my rotation schedule up to be 72 hours for each rotation which is equal to the standard semester. Yes this does mean my sims spend 9 full rotations in university but it also means I play just 1 semester at a time and that really keeps it fun for me as the gameplay is pretty different from the regular neighbourhood. My one rule for students moving in is that in 1 household I can't have students in the same semester. Therefore there's usually someone just starting and someone else almost graduating. This helps keep it interesting for me as it gives some variety.
I’ve only just found your channel and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been binge watching your 100 year Pleasantview series and am loving it. I love seeing what you’ve done with the families. I’m also in awe that your game is still running smoothly after all this time. Mine crashes so often it’s starting to become unplayable 😢
First of all, congrats on getting to 1000 subs and in such a short time too! 😀 It's interesting to see how other people play Uni in Sims 2. I absolutely love this EP and keep it to the 3 days each, as I do with my families, playing rotationally. I have a boys Greek House and a girls Greek House and play that way as I don't like the dorms. The Greek Houses remain "open" with a Sim inside for the next generation so the houses are pretty big with loads of stuff, including career reward items that the Sims bring from home over the years. Great video - gave you a like 😀
Oh that sounds like a really cool way to play! Really good idea to have lots of stuff ready to go for each rotation turning up. And thank you so much 😊❤️
Me too - although with the dorms, I like them, but I have them full of my own sims as the generation goes up together except for the first time I played it. My first run through is up on my old blog - Jimmy Phoenix in SimVannia Waters.
I agree vanilla uni is far too long but playing it when it first came out I thought it was amazing having longer to play with my sims as we had gone from sims 1 with no life spans to sims 2 with all the life spans I loved being able to spend more time with my sims, and not having the internet back in the early 2000s I didn't know about rotation play so it would be just random made families but now having had sims 3 and 4 i cant play 2 with out uni mods to make it shorter
You play the university hood very similar to how I do. Semester changes, majors linked to jobs but I am use a mod from MTS. I let mine declare a major as soon as the roll for it though. I then play to wants so no one skills unless they want to or they have a want that skills as a by product such as go swimming. I put a lot of items at my colleges and use autonomy mods so they might choose to go practice speech or choose to study. I also play Young Adults in the main hood where they can do college 'on line' or others don't do uni at all but get a job or run a business. I use a few mods for that.
Gotta laugh at half of them heading off to class in their undies! Splitting up the rounds and playing main hood households in between is something I've done too, it's so useful for keeping things fresh in a long rotation. Though to be honest I've got so many half-abandoned BACC-style hoods on the backburner now it's been a while since I had a university to send anyone to... 😅
I'm trying the 2 day Uni mod for the first time because I'm starting a custom hood & can't stand sims starting with no skills. Yet trying to put starter characters for an entire neighborhood through college at once takes a long time. (I've done it a lot over the years) So far the 2 day uni mod I'm not fond of......but it gets the job done. My normal play through uni is to make them live as real people would (same as I do the hood). I found that building my own community lots for social interactions & dating helps but it also helps to speed up the length of time issue in uni as in the uni hoood commercial lots time continues uninterrupted so it's later when your sims return to the dorm. Once I started doing this length of time it took to get through uni isn't that big of a deal. Never used mods for uni, it just takes getting use to how the schedule works. Normally my sims don't bother with term papers & unless they've fallen behind, they don't do homework. Class time, skills, & taking the exam is enough to pass with high grades. Sims 2 uni the focus is on social not academics really. So you can do the bare minimum & still graduate with a perfect gpa. My sims date a lot in uni, do a lot of community things to gain skills & make friends & help me further develop their personalities. However if someone can tell me how to prevent the game from having sims walk around in the main neighborhood dressed as uni mascots that would be wonderful. Drives me nuts. lol
That sounds like a really good way to play, quite intense to get started with from scratch! Definitely like the sound of “live as real people would”, I can definitely trap myself in a hamster wheel of skill building 🙈 I love uni for the social aspect most of all, I’m hoping this group make solid friendships
Do you play with the Greek houses at all? I will have popularity sims try to join a Greek house, with a couple exceptions for non-popularity (legacies or a Greek sim rolls a want for them). They can only join a Greek house in sophomore year onwards though. Both pleasant twins (popularity) were in the sorority where they finally became best friends again, and all of their female siblings and children will be legacies. I also had the other sorority members graduate back to pleasantview and join my rotation in apartments so they can all keep in touch!
NOPE they had twins and then woohooed again the MOMENT they gave birth and I’m trialling a 48 hour pregnancy mod right now, so the next baby was born before the twins aged up 😭 There are still going to be three toddlers in that household at the same time though…
@@Katie_Catastrophe Oh wow... well, I think that might be better than triplets... but barely. 😂 I modified the 48 hour pregnancy mod to be 30 hours (10 hours per trimester) since I thought 18 hours was WAY too short for my taste, so I COULD technically end up in the same boat one day in my 'hood. LOL
I find university a bit tedious despite having the same mods you do (shorter semesters + less skills necessary). It's not really the part of Sims 2 that I enjoy, I prefer growing families and playing with everyone, not just a bunch of young adults. I'm doing a Build -a -City-Challenge and haven't yet unlocked universities so I don't have to concern myself with that yet, but when I do I think I might just develop some way of giving sims degrees (by cheating) based on high school grades, skills and hobbies. That way I can still have some sims with degrees but I can just bypass the uni stage altogether. It's mostly so that my ages don't get out of sync. I don't want the parents to end up YEARS older than they should be compared to their kids. I do really love watching university gameplay from Sims 2 TH-camrs though for some reason? It's kind of weird how that works.
That’s fair, I do appreciate the break from family gameplay for a bit to just enjoy pure YA drama 😂 I’ve had some years where everyone fell out and it was just constant random woohooing and then fighting, which was stressful but at least a bit different… a method to give them degrees based on what they do up until they become adults makes a lot of sense, and hopefully is more fun for you to play!
I agree that University is one of the worst expansions in most Sims games. I am in Germany, university is nowhere near as prominent as it is in America, which the Sims are based on/in, and it just seems insane that *every* teen Sims gets a wish to go to university. Knowledge Sims in 2 I can understand doing that. But the rest? I do think that making the whole experience shorter with the shorter semesters makes it a lot more tolerable, though.

Yes I have the same thought about that system. I personally use a dice/randomizer to decide so chances for every subject are the same.
@@Nienke131 oh I like that!

9:34 so uh, Lilah and Adam burb are first cousins once removed? I just noticed since Daniel and Jennifer are siblings.

I love uni when I'm doing a dedicated univeristy play through but as part of legacies and rotations yeah it's a pain in the butt

You can ban the mascot with the visitor controller.
