Sometimes I'll start a sentence, and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope to find it along the way. Like an improv conversation. An improversation.
Here’s the thing: 1. Leverage their intake style - visual, auditory and kinesthetic 2. Lean on their behaviors - demanding, social, laid back, analytical 3. Learn how others see you - they see you through your eyes 4. Lay them down in writing first 5. List them out with a structure 6. Learn the words - expand vocabulary 7. Lose the stage fright - fear of what others may think
Actually I see this differently. Other people see me through their eyes, not through mine because what I say is being filtered through their experiences and beliefs and that gives rise to their perception about me, e.g he looks frustrated when he said that. But I may not actually feel frustrated. Grace are u trying to say that other people see me through my behaviours ? I don’t see how they can see through my eyes... can u explain what u mean?
I most definitely need this. I often struggle to articulate what's going on in my head. I think a lot of it is to do with confidence. Thank you for making this video
My biggest challenge is when I get asked something that i have not prepared for , then I feel like I cant digest the question quick enough and response with the answer that I want to give. ( usually I will have better answer after I do the reflection at the end of it ) 🤣
Same here! But it gets better after... So what I do is I seek experience.. I just get trouble expressing a certain thought the first or second time.. 😊 I learn not to be afraid of making mistakes..
Sounds like everyone! I think the best thing that works for me is to not feel like you have to rush an answer. Actually slow down and listen to the question. Even pause to reflect and even ask the person to repeat themselves or clarify before you answer. I found that gives you time to not rush and say something crude or confusing until you fully digest the question and collect thoughts. Sometimes I also repeat parts of the question to myself or out loud and that provides a prompt to collect an appropriate response to what’s being asked.
When I was 11, and the only Spanish speaking student present, my teacher asked me to translate for a latino parent who had shown up in class inquiring about his child. I froze and couldn't get my words out. That stayed with me. 30 years later and I still feel guilt over letting my teacher and the parent down. Back at college in my 40s and beginning to have those feelings of failure again.... I will make it about them Dr Grace Lee. You're an 😇 🙏🏽😭
The craziest thing is that I was thinking to myself “ I need to articulate my thoughts better” , tell me why I open TH-cam and this is recommended, also I rarely watch content like this so that was crazy
My greatest challenges are #7 fear of what others think and I feel like to my words and thoughts are not aligned ... Sometimes thinking faster than in speaking
Very good tips! The two that especially resonated with me were 1) People see you through your eyes, not theirs, and 2) Overcome stage fright by making it about them, they are the stars. Thanks so much.
Thank you. I once learned four types of learners: 1. listeners, 2. listeners who are major note-writers✍🏽 3. people who experience (listen or watch) an example, and 4. people who do the example, themselves, for themselves (and/or others). Will listen🎧 to this again. I certainly agree with you re parallelism. Cheers📣.
“People don’t see you through their eyes, they see you through yours!” ... this is true... this explains why at times, depending on the people you are talking to/ who you’re with determines one’s confidence level... hmmm, makes sense!
It's more like, how you see yourself influences how the other person sees you, and it also influences their confidence level in you. They don't determine your confidence level; they don't have that power!
I have not only trouble articulating my thoughts, I have difficulty completing a thought. I have autism so my thoughts are like a continuous loop. even listening how you express yourself, facial expressions, the resonance in your tone, inflections, and eye contact is very difficult sometimes impossible for me. Sometimes it feels like I'm shouting just to be simply heard, and I notice people speak over me, or cut me off in conversations. A lot of things I just don't grasp. It doesn't come naturally to me. I watch these videos for help, but as a doctor explained it to me. The most difficult part of this condition is the fact that you cannot "will" your way from a neurological disorder.
People should not hate anything about themselves because your the way your suppose to be, the world systems, make us think something wrong with us introverts or quiet ones. Yet we know were the best people in heart, spirit, and soul. "Best Quality Heart"❤
That's amazing that you got instant results with your speaking!! Congratulations for implementing right away. I hope to hear more WINS from you again soon!
My challenge is,i get to articulate my my thoughts better in my head, once i open my mouth to speak, i go numb...i don't remember anything at all..I was starting to get really worried, then i came across this video... I have taken down the key notes towards improving myself, and i am hoping to see a significant change once i put then into practice.
I have a hard time communicating my thoughts into words, this video helped me alot. When you talk about technique 3. How people see you through your eyes really hit me. I really want to better myself thank for this video. I was scrambling through videos looking for right video, this is it!
I'm glad it was a big help! I hear you say that you live in your thoughts most of the time. I challenge you not to place a judgment on it like it's a bad thing. Find all the ways that you can leverage that for growth, influence, and achievement. Because every trait we see as bad about ourselves has an equally good quality.
All excellent tips Leveraging your audience intake style Leaning on your audiences behaviour Lay your thoughts down in writing List your thoughts out with a structure Learn the words Lose the stage fright. All excellent points to implement
This works like magic! I just hopped on a quick call with a potential client and I presented myself better than I did before! I can't thank you more for this, Dr. Grace Lee!
Thank you for this video; being a victim of narcissistic abuse had left me silent. I appreciate a video like this. This is giving me help with communicating correctly THANK YOU
This is an eye opening video. It explains that my boss is analytical and loves to see numbers. When I present to him, I back it up with solid numbers, and he is happy. :)
TY for creating this class. I think a lot of people think something is wrong with them, now reading this. So this teaching is important for many different reasons. I'm introverted and smart but conveying that orally sounds and feels strange, to my ownself, that's the truth. Yet I call it shy🤷🏾♀️.
THANK YOU. Every time I try to say something powerful or meaningful that I thought into words it always comes out as a jumbled mess making my statements bad and weak
you know whats funny is the part how others see you is how you see yourself. as someone who has anxiety all their life, only the past couple years i have stepped my foot down and face my fears. and ironically i still feel that i am that anxious scared person inside, i dont think it will ever go away. but i had mention something to a friend in conversation..i dont recall what exactly we were speaking on but i said how im still working on my confidence, and they were like confused being like what do you mean youre the most confident person i know. that was enough for me to realize thats exactly what confidence is. you face it anyway even if youre scared shitless
What I have noticed, I am struggling to articulate well when talking through the phone or via video conference. Somehow I lose the confidence and fear creeps in. Is the emotional and physical connection that is lack unlike when talking to someone in person? It is an interesting subject and dr Grace I like what you are teaching us here. I found a lot of value in that. Thank you
As I'm heading back into the office in a new role which requires speaking in front of key leaders in the org, I'm happy this was suggested to me. Grear video!
Brilliant! Objective, Concise, not overly verbose and educational. Love that you give the tips and the application of them .... and an example and how it might play out... and then why. Great job. Keep up the good work.
Great video. I learnt a lot from you as I am preparing for my ielts exam. It was a perfect timing as this is what I really needed because I am struggling to convey my thoughts to others in a way that I am speaking in a natural way and not sound mechanical.
Thank you Dr Grace! This is much appreciated. I always get anxious when presenting my monthly report to our company stakeholders even we do it thru zoom. This definitely helped me! Thank you so much!
I’m glad I found your videos. I feel this might just help me grow in my speech. But one of my challenges is gathering my thoughts when being approached quickly by someone that is in authority, now this happened one time, but I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again.(My Job) But, I show respect nod my head but it’s like they’re stern and don’t speak back but be quick to point out the wrong that I’ve done. Also, my issue is those deep thoughts I have, and I want to say them but it’s hard to dig them out and speak I think it’s because I don’t know how to articulate them.
I have problems with articulating my questions, which leads to not getting what i intended to ask answered which leads me to getting frustrated. I think this video was more for public speaking but still presented techniques i could use. Thanks a bunch!😊
Hi Dr. Lee, mine is definately mostly stage fright, I find myself becoming intimidated by certain people or in certain rooms. But all your points were helpful, thank you!
This is invaluable information, thank you! I rarely feel heard fully by my co-communicators and have been wanting to understand why, as I too have important information to share, but do not relish repeating myself, or feeling the need to go into detailed description whenever I get blank stares.
Wow...this was so insightful. I thought i was having trouble getting my thoughts out because i was just having trouble remembering what i wanted say ( which made me think there was something larger at play like ...alzheimer) but this has given me so much hope. Thank you so much for your expertise.
Not only is there hope, there is SO MUCH potential inside of you. The only thing larger at play is what you believe to be true about yourself, because with this vision and a commitment to consistency, that will become true. Thank you for showing up and blessing this space!
I am the same I get so nervous and whatever I say after that is not good ….but I always wondered what is the root cause of this ? Is it something from childhood or school or what could be the reason(s) for this?
As someone who's been trying for a long time to break bad habits and implement good ones, "Practice makes permanent" really resonated with me. I had a seventh grade teacher who would say, "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect". Lol
The idea of that we all have a certain type of visual/auditory/kinesthetic etc. learning styles is not proven by any means rather a good mix of all of them combine to create the best and fastest learning environment. Other than that - really great concepts!
“Practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes permanent.” I’ve tried to explain this to teachers that assign at home assignments but students don’t fully understand the content.
Spot on with the techniques. First video I have watched of you and I am impressed as this content will definitely help a lot of people. I liked and subscribed now to your channel.
Me, too. ~ As an old, 'Speech Tx' kid, I'm preparing for court, on my own, as a widow. 'Written expression' is the worst, (an actual, Learning disability). Against Greedy, Nazi narcs and pathological* LIAR$. Especially, with induced "c-PTSD"! But, I got through 'Honors English' Fine, my Senior Year ... and I'm 5x smarter + with waaay more life-long, self-education (and rational) than Both, put together! 🤣 THANK YOU! I look forward to more Lessons and motivation. 💪🇺🇸🎖
Wow.. I wish I had this information years ago. I avoided many opportunities to speak in front of people simply because I had trouble articulating my thoughts. Thank you for this video! I just subscribed..
Thank you so very much for sharing your insight and suggestions. I struggle with the fear. Therefore, I stumble over my words a little. Or, I will speak too fast. Often reminding myself to breathe and slow down helps in the moment. Btw, I have placed reminders on my desk as well. You are a wonderful resource. I look forward to learning more.
Haha I was just practicing a conversation in the shower the other day and was thinking about how I need to articulate my thoughts better. So glad I found your channel, Dr. Lee!!
I've never had issues with articulating my thoughts even speaking publicly. But ever since the lock down I've been struggling a lot with socialising and expressing my thoughts in a fluent way. When I talk now I need a lot of time to find the right words and phrases. And sometimes it's hard to convey an idea in a grammaticly correct way, and often after I've spoken like 2 sentences, I'd forget what I was even trying to say at the start its quite frustrating. Sometimes I'm not even sure what the problem is. Is it ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, lack of socialising, lack of practice because I've graduated from uni or something else? Right now I'm taking English class hoping that would improve my situation a little.
I have trouble even forming sentences to even write. All my thoughts are jumbled. So.much so then I think, well, it's nothing original so it's not worth it. I get an "it is what it is attitude". And that is just further debilitating. I think it's lacking in confidence, anxiety and ADD. We can be such hard critics of ourselves.
Wow! How did I survive this long and didn't know the existence of Dr. Lee. I became an instant fan during the first 2 minutes of this video. Loaded with valuable info. I hope she would continue making more similar educational videos.🙏🏻✌🏻
@@DrGraceLee The board meeting presentation was successful! I felt it was very informative and provided facts for making decisions or diving deeper into issues. I felt confident and organized because of my template.
How can I watch one video and don't end up with watching 250 videos of yours?😭 All your content is useful to me and I am glad I found this channel. Thanks dear
Thanks Dr Grace, All the points were very good and helpful. One important point I want to add here is that every profession has its own language. By this I mean that every profession has their own terminologies/key word etc. Hence, we need to learn the language of our profession too besides the common leadership language like navigating, change, risk, opportunities, piece of the puzzzle, collaboration, engaging ,on my radar ,my bandwidth etc.
Thank you for your kind words and your valuable input. I agree that learning the language of your profession is an essential part of being articulate and effective in your field. I appreciate you sharing some examples of common leadership language that can help convey your ideas and intentions clearly. I appreciate your support!
Hi Grace, I really like your videos, particularly on articulation. It feels like you offer the best value in this area on the whole of TH-cam! They are very useful, thanks.
I appreciate you! Thank you for blessing this space with your presence. I'm cheering you on. That which you believe and work consistently towards, you shall achieve.
Practicing does help of people can feel little increments of improvements but I think sometimes people bomb and then they almost get PTSD and they don’t ever want to do it again! I agree that it’s more about inner confidence rather than just practicing 🙂
It was quite difficult for me to speak in front of my audience/classmates until I joined college when I came to realise how important public speaking is. Now, I can communicate without any slightest fear and anxiety# though it comes the first minute I hold the microphone but the moment I open my mouth to say a word, the fear disappears immediately.
Dr. Lee, good morning! Thank you for making up so great points! I have heard several times about expending vocabulary. I deeply agree with you because I can say that one of my main challenges are vocabulary. I know that it would take some time for me to accumulate those words. But I don't have time. I have to do it ASAP! Also, the scope is too big for me to accumulate them! Would you please recommend some resources, like books, videos...? I really feel that your words and the combination are very precise, very smooth, also very easy to be understood. I hope that someday I can speak like you! Thank you so much!
The algorithm strikes gold again! People don't see you through their eyes they see you through yours.🤔 Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes permanent.💥 Subscribed!!
This helped me greatly.. I feel so selfish.. I’ve been making me show up online (video) about me… and not about service.. I’m having unnecessary anxiety over how will I look and sound on camera MORE than I care about service.. I will do better Dr. Grace.
Learned a lot from this. Need to rewatch this and go over all the points. And yes, I love the last one on how to lose the stage fright, taking off self👍💖
Sometimes I'll start a sentence, and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope to find it along the way. Like an improv conversation. An improversation.
😂😂 I like the portmanteau, but as an introvert yes, it can be nerve wracking talking and feeling like you’re babbling on.
I thought there was something wrong with me because I also tend to forget where my sentence is going while I'm busy talking.
Me too! This thread is so comforting because I thought something was wrong with me and I have this same issue
Lol I was the same sometimes during graduation
Lolz...so much truth though. Totally relate! oh btw..u meant improvisation..heeh

Not boring. Just A LOT of info to digest in one seating.
It’s a little boring on top of the fact that there’s no subtitles. I feel that with subs i can hear better, even if the subs are in English ._.

THANK YOU! I look forward to more Lessons and motivation.
💪🇺🇸🎖
thanks for the application process, this helped me get my words out and I belive I am ready to start the journey as a great communicator
I love the tip about remembering the keyword and expanding your vocabulary.
Wow.. I wish I had this information years ago. I avoided many opportunities to speak in front of people simply because I had trouble articulating my thoughts. Thank you for this video! I just subscribed..
7:12 "People don't see you through their eyes; they see you through yours." 💯
powerful stuff
I feel the same too. I feel like somethings wrong with me
I have trouble even forming sentences to even write. All my thoughts are jumbled. So.much so then I think, well, it's nothing original so it's not worth it. I get an "it is what it is attitude". And that is just further debilitating. I think it's lacking in confidence, anxiety and ADD. We can be such hard critics of ourselves.
this is mee now
Wow! How did I survive this long and didn't know the existence of Dr. Lee. I became an instant fan during the first 2 minutes of this video. Loaded with valuable info. I hope she would continue making more similar educational videos.🙏🏻✌🏻
Thank you for sharing. Love # 7...it's all about your audience and not about you.
Lack of NOTHING that i need thank you very much 🤍🕊
Dr. Grace Lee, thank you so much!!
Clear and concise video, just in time to use in my next board meeting! Thanks!
Awesome! Let me know how it helped you at your board meeting!
@@DrGraceLee The board meeting presentation was successful! I felt it was very informative and provided facts for making decisions or diving deeper into issues. I felt confident and organized because of my template.
Thank you for this! I've been having a hard time with my vocabulary and there'll be a time when I know what to say but the words are lost.
How can I watch one video and don't end up with watching 250 videos of yours?😭
All your content is useful to me and I am glad I found this channel.
Great Helpful video with useful tips, loved the realness at the end with the blooper 😅 great smile, sense of humor, clear and concise
I like your topics, I'm learning while watching and listening.
Hi Grace, I really like your videos, particularly on articulation. It feels like you offer the best value in this area on the whole of TH-cam! They are very useful, thanks.
I admire Dr.Lee so much. I want to speak English the way she does.
I appreciate you! Thank you for blessing this space with your presence. I'm cheering you on. That which you believe and work consistently towards, you shall achieve.
I want to have more brain cells then she does too... please tell me how?? Love scuba whale..and hoe do I become better looking & less heavy??
This is so timely. Thank you for sharing this video, it’s very helpful.
thats gold! thats very good split-off the essences of the groups! i like it! well done!
Thank you for your valuable techniques ❤
Thank you Dr. Lee, that was electrifying!
My pleasure, it's a blessing to have you here!
Not only am I impressed with this video. I am also impressed by the fact someone walked backwards for over 15 minutes.
hello Dr. Grace Lee - please may you also do a video covering how to articulate yourself for an interview
Priceless tips, thank you for sharing.
Right on time! When I needed it🙌
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 🥰
I love you are teaching this with such grace. thank you
This video has been so helpful. Any tips on how to expand our vocabulary?
The algorithm strikes gold again!
People don't see you through their eyes they see you through yours.🤔
Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes permanent.💥

Best video ive ever watched about techniques of public speaking. 😍
This is gold. I hope you’re writing a book about this. I would totally buy it.
Practice makes progress...and an opportunity to learn and adjust.
Thank for sharing. Thank you, bless you. All your dreams come true.
Thanks, Dr Grace. I am implementing all the techniques. I am so bad at articulating myself despite my skills.
Thank you for this Dr. Lee it’s very helpful. I need your help to become confident.
This podcast is very informative to me , Thank you, Dr Lee for shearing you’re wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
