Keeping in mind that not EVERYONE has a conditioned body to take blows, if you're someone who trains Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, or whatever else. Simply throwing a heavy kick at someone's intestinal region blindly, can cause potential fatal injuries. Maybe throwing a switch kick at them and they fall and hit their head the wrong way, so it's really anywhere you hit someone can be fatal.
You 100% don't have a clue what you are talking about. You don't have to prove self-defense; they have to prove it wasn't. Since you would be defending yourself, no hidden cameras are going to show otherwise and in the the USA no one is legally obligated to take a beating. The other person doesn't even have to harm you, merely put you in fear of being hit.

A hit to the throat is a lifesaver in a fight. I had a guy throw a punch at my chin once and get pulled back by another person as he threw the punch. His fist missed my chin and hit me in the adams apple. The fight was broken up but my throat hurt for an hour afterwards. That punch to the midsection as a follow up would basically reduce breathing down to nothing. Great self defense move when facing a person with a great chin. Throats are even less equipped than the jaw or chin to take a blow. This dudes videos are a gold mine.

And the real bottom line is this: if someone much larger and/or younger than you is that precipitously close to really hurting you, they get what they get if you decide that they're enough of a threat that you _can't safely get away from_ and are forced to defend yourself or your wife/family. Self-defense is a right, not a permissible or impermissible action.
