YOO Pete! It really was a better than expected little bite going on there, I typically never see them larger than schoolies in that current over there but the first one was a pleasant surprise. Haha isn't that pretty cool how they move around it, they really are so turn on-turn off
Nice session! Awesome to see the ff lit up like that. Definitely transformed into fall after this storm. I didn't find many stripers but the tog were hungry on my side of the sound
Thanks MrTcal, just thankful they were there! Yea those storms definitely kickstarted the fall patterns I think, well at least you got on the tog, good to know they are ready, very much looking forward to them as well.
Nice Peter... some chunky BASS-tards. Awesome how you telegraphed their location and stay super tuned into things like spooking the school etc. Nicely done.
haha bass tards, I honestly havent heard that before but thats great. I'm glad you picked up on that! I think its very important not to be on top of the school, its much better to cast way up current of the school and reel into them, kayak should be behind the school. It makes a difference!
Right on bro looks like rod/reel pass the test! Awesome video. I’m from San Diego and love kayak fishing. I get to somewhat experience kayak fishing outside this area with great videos like yours.
haha thanks man, yea it totally passed, its awesome to get feedback like this from other kayak fisherman in a completely different part of the country! Thanks so much for checking the video out and leaving me a comment 🤙
Hi Pete, fun video. We struck out yesterday off FI reef, Democratic Pt and by the RM bridge in pretty stiff westerly wind. Few short fluke, robins, small sea bass and blowfish. No stripers. Hope to hit the yak tomorrow morning off West Neck and work my way up to your neck of the water.
Ah man yesterday was windy except for early in the morning, I guess the fluke have really moved out for the most part, a little surprised you didnt bump into any stray stripers. Hope you have better luck up here then, I think you'll find some
haha yea its def hit or miss though, these guys could've moved around already. At least you connected with a couple that were there! I agree though, its a great sign if this is just the start
I was happily surprised, I think it helps to have light line too. With 8# braid on a medium heavy rod and a 1oz. weight you can really chuck it good and hold a good amount of line on a small reel.
Thanks. I think the main reason for me to tag is I’m just curious where all the fish in my local area go. I do think more info on that plus growth rates could help the fishery/regulations in general
Going to fit in one last saltwater trip next weekend. The cod and seabass bites have been really good after the blow from Ian subsided. I was looking at a kayak fishfinder yesterday. Nothing big, it just runs off a 6V battery. But given most of the ponds I go to are only like 5 feet deep, it's kinda impractical.
Hey Josh, that’s great to hear that the bite is good after that storm, I love cod and sea bass. Yeah I hear you on the fish finder, theyr not much help when the water is shallow like that, I guess it could help you see some structure but you would have to be right on top of it to see
@@PeterRanieriII October 31st is the last day they take the long ride out to Cox's Ledge. From November through April, the entire area south of Block Island is a designated Whale Migration Zone. As such, all vessels 65 feet or longer are required to slow to 10 knots while traversing it. Since Cox's is a nearly two-hours ride without the zone in effect, they just end up fishing the waters around Block.

@@frankdogali4797 haha then I’m sure I’m going to see you out there this spring with Dan. He’s taken me out to that area last spring and I had a great time. I live a little east of those bays on the north shore but yeah I guess it’s all very similar styles of fishing that work!
All that expensive gear and you missed the most crucial thing. $400-500 reel and $400-500 Rod and you’ll enjoy it more. I used to play with subpar gear and once I went to top tier Gear, I don’t even care if I catch a fish or not, it’s a joy just cranking that reel back and forth.
Yea I thought I mentioned it in the beginning of the video that I’m only testing this rod/reel setup out for my planned trip. Don’t want to bring my more expensive stuff on the ✈️. Just my opinion but your fish finder should be worth more $ than your rod and reel on the kayak, rods aren’t tied down like the FF is.
Spent many a night surfcasting there before I moved to the south shore. Brings back memories. Nice to see the fish still stacked over there.
Oh wow I didn’t you you used to live up by here, I’m very glad to see them still coming here as well!
Hell yeah Pete!!! Helluva bite!! That was cool how the marks went to the bottom with your jig.

Nice 35 inch striper! Healthy looking fish.

great catches.. whats the stuff you put on the jig?

the waters around block can still be pretty productive
Nice video Pete where is this location?
Thanks Michael! This is on the western north shore of Long Island, NY

this is actually on the east coast, New York

I did some amp draw testing of the watersnake TS24 and I think it would last about 8 hours on low and 4 hours on high with 80ah battery
