Assuming it was stored correctly in a cold fridge after purchase, I would definitely return that to the shop and kick up a fuss as it's still in date and would be unsafe to consume
@@debranewton1237 im still going to, as there seems to be quite a good amount for one person for a christmas dinner. Just ill get it as close as i can to christmas day or put it in the freezer. Also looking at the potatoes before paying for it.
You woukd think so, both myself and wife were managers for Marks&Spencer, they won't give much compensation today compared to the 80s-00s , they will say it was a packaging error from the factory max he will get is £20
Those white spots on the Carrots Deano... Were almost certainly mould spaws... The smell is also a dead giveaway mate... You were right not to attempt to consume this in date product... Most mouldy food that's still in date... Will normally be from inconsistent storage temperatures of those chilled products... Lets say for instance during transportation in a refrigerated unit... Or because of in-store storage issues... I've seen it for myself when chilled deliveries have been left outdoors in the sun... Raising their temperatures beyond safe levels... While waiting for staff to clear enough refrigerated storage space in their large cold storage rooms... As my niece also works in a supermarket where this happens far more than you would like to think... Especially at Christmas... When all of these extra products come flooding into the supermarket. Some regular product lines are suspended during this period to avoid storage issues... And once Christmas is over... Those suspended products will be reinstated as stocks of Christmas products start to rapidly dwindle... I would definitely contact M&S... And ask them to watch the video if they need proof of their product... That's clearly unfit for human consumption... Now they may make you an offer of compensation for this products failings... But beware... They may also make that offer... On the condition that you remove the video from your channel... If you did that my friend... I don't think that your subscribers would consider that situation as a fair or a just one... We the consumers should be allowed to base our purchases on all of the available facts from trusted food reviewers... Anyway Deano... I'm sure you'll let us know of any further updates. 👍
Just opening that and releasing the mould spores into the air would put me in hospital! Very, very allergic to mould, so much so, I can't go into a store that has blue cheese unwrapped on the counter for cutting! Not clever! I hope M&S make it good for you!
I hope M and S see this. Having worked for another supermarket I could tell you how this is common at this time year. Too much food arriving too fast and not being sold. Just leave it in the lifts or the warehouse until it can be put on the shopfloor
I get the feeling this was the result of a 'good samaritan' busybody putting a meal back in the cooler that someone had dumped next to the cereals 8 hours previously. Some people do this, thinking that they are being nice when all they are really doing is putting people at risk of food poisoning.
@ It’s a big pain in the arse for retail staff, as if someone dumps a whole chicken on the side and it gets left there, the staff take it away and write it off. If someone picks up the same chicken and puts it back in the fridge as a ‘nice gesture’ and it sits there for 4 days festering, the store gets all the stress when someone comes back instore saying their chicken was mouldy. I always look for tell-tale signs on the packaging such as bloating or excessive condensation.
Sorry, I don't buy that. It's not going to get that mouldy in the course of a few hours. It's a factory problem almost certainly, with all that batch with a 30 November sell-by date at possible fault, though probably most of those bought will be in home freezers, Marks need to initiate a national recall of all those with that date, at the very least.
@@TimWallace-j9d no one said it happened over the course of a few hours but if someone left it out for a few hours to reach room temp and it was subsequently put back in the fridge until the last day it was able to be sold (as indicated here) then it’s completely feasible that it could have started to develop some mould over the passage of days. You’re right though, it could also be the factory, it’s all just hypothetical and I would have been stomping over to M&S to complain within the hour because it definitely needs to be checked, as you say.
both myself and wife were managers for Marks&Spencer, my wife was a food hall manager, its a factory issue, the seal is still intact meaning air cant get in to turn mouldy the condensation inside the seal indicates it wasnt chilled fast enough at the factory
I think to prove that the day of filming was the 30th November 2024, when you checked your phone for the date, maybe it might have been wise to show the camera, not that this prove much as these can be altered, but as we know, they do make mistakes, and i normally check the back of the compatment for the longest date, not take from front or top.
It is a criminal offence to sell food that is not of the quality or substance demanded and expected by the purchaser. You should have taken it straight back to M&S. Thank goodness you noticed before it poisoned you! The store should apologise, investigate and recompense you. You could report it to environmental health.
All praise to you deano for putting out this video. I got 2 of these last week and under the veg looked like some noodles had fell in, god knows how they were in there. At least i hope they were noodles. I think m&s quality has gone down the pan🤢and those white bits on the carrots could be bug eggs. Bloody disgusting, well done and best wishes Deano x
It's a good job it wasn't for Christmas day. I opened and cooked part baked bread rolls and found mould on one of the rolls. I was about to eat. I was shocked. I have 2 other packs. And they were well in date over a month.very disappointing. I have to have them as I am a single person. If it wasn't for the hassle I wouldn't shop with them but don't have much choice.
I was going to suggest that perhaps the seal had been compromised, even the tiniest of pin pricks can do that, ie air gets into it, but looking at it again, it all seemed skin tight when you were examining it closely. So definitely a thumbs down for M&S, but agree this is very rare for them.
A few weeks ago i went into M&S on the basis of buying this same meal. I decided not to buy it as it was a Friday i went there and the use by date was the Sunday which is when i would have eaten it. Im glad i didnt buy it after seeing this as likely the same would have happened to mine. Not to say i wont go back and see of i can get one fresh delivery to the store buy it and Freeze it and defrost it in the Fridge the day before then cook it from Chilled. I hope you took it back to M&S and they not only gave you a refund but some compensation like a voucher for future in store purchases.
Ever so sorry to see this but M&S are normally very good indeed. It would be interesting to see what they said when you or one of your lasses took it back?
I hope you phoned them, as it's a serious food safety issue that they need to sort out in case it's in other ready meals. Campylobacter, Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens and goodness knows what else could be in there, someone could die.
I know that M&S food is generally good but my dear old mom, God bless her soul, had some salmon from them which was about 3 days within date and she was violently Ill within an hour of eating it. I must admit, I was in the house with her at the time and felt it smelled a little strong but as it was M&S and 3 days within date I let her cook it. You did right to not risk it mate. Don't worry, that wasn't the cause of her demise but my God, the odour in the toilet was atrocious 🤢
@NikkisNosh If it was anything like what my mom went through (she was well into her eighties at the time) I sympathise with you. She was using both the toilet and the sink simultaneously for around an hour!
That is not good. I have stomach issues so am over cautious with use by dates and won't eat anything if it is dated that day. Yes, definitely mash and roasties for a roast dinner. I bought this one for my Christmas dinner last year and didn't like it, think it was the gravy, so it went in the bin. My M&S go to is their Roast beef dinner and a separate side of mash. This Christmas it will either be the M&S roast beef or a roast from Oakhouse. Will still have my side of mash and loads of sprouts.
