This form of catering is the worst of both worlds. If you want cheap, you're better off making your own or even buying a ready meal from Asda. If you want good, you're better off saving your pounds from 2 bad meals and have one good meal at a proper pub.
I stopped going to Wetherspoons when my wife and I went there for breakfast. They had no problem with fried egg, but could not do scrambled as they had run out. I said I’d pop over the road and buy them some from the supermarket. They said that was not possible but I could have fried egg too. I replied that I thought they had run out of egg and they said only scrambled. It was then explained to me that all the eggs were cooked then frozen. At that point I walked out.
It looked like a school dinner. I think people go to WSs for cheap drinks and then the food ‘fills a hole’ after a few! Hurting someone with a stuffing ball made me laugh 😂 CM had a few chips - you need to nip that in the bud 😜 ❤
I used to work here and remember this meal… the turkey and veg is straight from a vacuum sealed packet and microwaved. Stuffing ball also microwaved along with packet of mash. Wouldn’t choose this from the menu!
The Christmas dinner reminds me of my school days, when I would stuff my lunch into a small milk carton so I could pass the empty plate inspection before leaving.
Another top review! I must admit, my guilty pleasure is the turkey dinner this time of year at Wetherspoons! For some reason I really like it! Look forward to the next review!
The thing with 'Spoons' is, they invest in wonderful old buildings and try and provide food/drinks for maximum value. Sometimes the quality of the food falls short but the way things are going after the latest budget, they could be the last remaining pub on the high street.
started doing spoons quite a lot recently, not had the turkey dinner but what we get is a cheap evening out, reasonable grub and good company. The vast majority of people don't have an educated palette and are happy with spoons quality levels. As a society most are happy with "value for money" that's my ethos and content with it. Congrats on passing 200k subscribers
Pingalonga Mike for 45 secs, cut open and plonk on a plate. Press button on a mixer dispenser and shoot your load into a glass of ice. Walk over and slap on a table. Produce bill for £11.99. Genius. If only Wetherspooons did optional aircraft food. Wait a minute, maybe they could. To use a sporting analogy to describe that cheap and not so nice shizzle you ate, Gary. Imagine bowling that stuffing ball in a cricket net to Joe Root. You could have pitched it 4 foot outside of leg stump and taken his off stump 9 times out of 10. Unplayable 🤣🤣😜 My serious question to you, Gary. You paid not a lot for your Christmas Spoons, ate shizzle and gave it 3 out of 10. At Tom Kerridge's Fish shack in Harrods you paid a fortune, ate bang average, got ripped off and gave it a 3 out of 10. In a shootout of cheap v expensive 3 out of 10 shizzle, who really wins? Both dire, but at least you Spoons saved you some money to go and eat a proper meal.
Wetherspoons is exactly what it says on the tin. Cheap and cheerful and ‘rustic’. No frills. You get what you pay for and you know what to expect. As my mother would say-it fills a hole when you’re hungry. Great honest review, as always Gary and lovely mysterious cameraman xx 💜💜💜 Poppety Ping makes the food sing… and hot 🔥
That dinner reminds me of a BHS meal from 20 years ago!! Spoons food has deffo gone down the hill and it is not that cheap any more either. The last meal I had was a fish and chip special and it was ok beacauseit was on a special deal lol.
No, couldn't agree less. Bad cooking is bad cooking, there is no excuse for it and no way a restaurant should be able to take advantage of vulnerable 'mustn't grumble' patrons.

Nothing screams Christmas like a processed turkey loaf cooked by chef Mike......... 🎄🎅✨ God bless us all! Gary I believe you are spot on, this would be a good location for a pint of Guinness. I am glad to see your Christmas generosity allowed for a mark of three. Personally I would've been a bit more of a Grinch and given a one star. Thank you for taking one for the team. Cheers.
One thing I can always be certain of, Gary, is that your videos always deserve a massive thumbs up before I've even clicked 'Play'. It is always a pleasure to watch your reviews and I hope you and yours have a wonderful festive. Thank you, as always, for the brilliant videos. Stay blessed, my good man! Edit: You should have taken that stuffing ball home and put a string on it. You could have hung it from your Christmas Tree. :)
Taking one for the channel, Gary. I've had a couple of different meals from Wetherspoons and to be fair it is what it is, the meals I've had have been good value. I had a breakfast yesterday and it was good with a refillable hot drink. Your reviews are honest and fair always, thank you
I really enjoy your videos Gary. I think people need to be realistic about Wetherspoons offering given the cost; if you are charging £10 for a meal you really only have around £2-3 to spend on ingredients if you are going to make a small profit once you add on all the other costs. Wetherspoons food costs will have gone up a lot over the last 3 years like everyone else so quality is going to suffer as their customer base is price sensitive. That’s just the reality of it, and it obviously works for them at that price point. If you think about how much a Pret sandwich or a McDonalds is nowadays it probably isn’t that bad. It’s all relative.
I thought I had stumbled on a new series here, Gary's Kitchen Nightmares 😂 That review was dripping with sarcasm and vitriol from the get go. I was waiting for you to storm into the kitchen and ask the chef "What the eff was that S**t"? 😂

Coming in late from California. What the heck! Gary, that is a no go pass due to processed turkey! You took one for Team Gary. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
You are absolutely spot on in regards to the quality of food and the prices that are charged. There is absolutely no consistency. They really do need to address the problem.
As a South African, Wetherspoons was the only restaurant that I could afford when I went to Scotland due to our sad exchange rate. The food was rather nice I thought...
That's a shame. I used to meet online friends who were visiting from abroad and took them to wetherspoons to get hammered and a meal (my treat). Nothing like the good old burger and beer after a session.

You had enough here for a half hour Christmas TV special. Watched it twice to make sure I didn't miss any. For me this was your best video....Congratulations on the 200K and now you're well on the way to *a quarter of a million subs* 😮😮
Wetherspoons is what it is, and enjoy it for that. They’ve had great success that no other pub company has managed. People of all ages, on their own or with others can go in there and feel comfortable. The Xmas dinner isn’t the best, but they have to fit it into an already extensive menu. Greeno has a downer on Spoons just because Tim Martin had the nerve to vote with the majority in the Brexit referendum - don’t be like Greeno!
If I want something out of a microwave I'd rather go to a supermarket to get the food and microwave it myself - then go to a pub later! I hear the Toby Cavery Christmas meal is decent though.
@@stephenelliott7071 i would more agree that Toby if you have one near you should be better. but it is over £10 then drink on top but you do have choice and as much as you like that is better value. but still not all toby's are good.

The lager is almost flat because it is so close to its sell-by date. The bar person has to shake the glass as it pours to get a head on it, which disappears in seconds and then you get a few lonely bubbles finally letting go of the glass and snaking up to the top with a farty little "pfft" as they finally escape their fermented prison sentence 🤣
Gary, I have to hand to you. You have suffered through a lot of bad meals. For that you deserve five stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.. The real pleasure for us and for you is to see you savor those moments when the meal hits all the right notes. Trust your instincts and not those recommendations by some subscribers that want to see you tortured by the food. You been doing this too long to know what's real or not. Thank you for all you do for the diner. All the best 👍👍 Jim and Harriet
The food is Tesco level microwave food and yes max 5/10 for it... but when you average out the score after you take into account drinks it comes out more favourably. The drinks are as fantastic as the prices. If you can manage then the best is to drink at Wetherspoons and then go for a kebab by which time you will care even less about the quality of the food. Not a German kebab... I have been watching Gary's other reviews. Phillip.
Another great video. I personally think spoons is great value for money , to be fair I never have a proper Xmas dinner with all the trimmings. Their breakfasts are normally excellent 👏🏻. My partner had a steak last week which was tough and not too nice but I had the big mixed grill and it was really nice. 🍻
I miss my local Spoons ! I didn’t each much there apart from when the Daily Special meant that I could actually get a meal and a drink ….. for just the price of the drink !
Unbelievable that ! I spat my tea out when you were hammering the stuffing rock ( I mean ball ) on the plate. I'm loving your honest reviews, keep it up.
No roast potatoes and that stuffing ball could be used by England cricket in the next Ashes 😱 We have 2 Weatherspoons and they're always busy, Winter and Summer, they are cheap and cheerful but will never get a Michelin ⭐️ The breakfasts are popular
To be honest? Weatherspoons does promote itself as a classy place to eat. The brand is all about cheap booze and affordable meals. If it were an old fashioned railway? It would be a 3rd class ticket. But to give them credit, the standards have improved over the years and you have to admit, their pubs are well decorated out to a high standard, but they still keep the prices down. I've visited my local Weatherspoons in Brighton Marina and I was pleasantly shocked. The food I saw being served looked pretty good.
Can’t understand people defending Spoons , if you’re watching Gary Eats it must be for educational reasons is all I can think , past videos have proven cost is no defence for poor quality
Recently had the Sizzling pubs Christmas meal. It’s ok for £16.50. I wouldn’t advise anyone to book their Christmas Day meal there though, the price skyrockets to £50+ and it’s definitely not worth paying that. I get you’re going to pay more for Christmas Day…but you will be hugely disappointed if you spend £50+ on it
that's appalling, £50 for what would be terrible. I think some Wetherspoons are open Christmas day, not sure if they are serving food, but if they are, they WON'T be charging £50 for rubbish.
@@matthewbrealey2026 The main meal is pretty average, starters and deserts were fine, but the main was very much like this one, processed meat and frozen veg. 3 courses for £16.50 is good price wise, but there’s no way I’d pay double for it, never mind what they’re asking for…which is more than triple on Christmas Day!
Funny enough I had this exact dinner last night in Wetherspoons inside Gatwick Airport before getting my flight back to Inverness. To be honest I hadn’t eaten all day so gobbled it down quickly 😊 have to give credit to them it was beautifully presented to me. And the staff were fantastic ensuring everything was fine with my meal. Though double the price being in Gatwick Airport!
Wetherspoons is a basic meal at a reasonable price. It appeals to people on a budget that cannot afford the " elitist meal". Go to Jamie Oliver's and you would pay 10x the cost for something similar. We have friends who love Wetherspoon's and accept it for what it is. I think on this one Gary, no disrespect, but you had made your mind up about the food long before you sat down. If not I apologise. Respect.
You must understand, I had the same Christmas dinner last year. I will never pre=judge any restaurant that I go to. I have no agenda despite what people think when it comes to any restaurant that I go to. Some people love Wetherspoons and some people hate it, I honestly do not care either way. I've had the curry at Wetherspoons and thought it was good. I had the breakfast and thought it was bad, likewise with the Christmas dinner. It's just my opinion and I think there's better out there without having to break the bank.
Were you disappointed last year when I said Wetherspoons curry was good? The only person with bias here is you Elky. (This comment is not aimed at you Grumpy)
@GaryEats You are brilliant. I thought long and hard before I wrote my opinion. It wasn't intended to offend you, but I tried to be constructive. Respect.
It's horrific and you can find better at proper local family owned establishments... They are not paticularly good value any more either, the food has gone up a lot over the last few years... There is a middle ground you know lol.
@@GRUMPY0254 Very kind of you and thank you for your comment. I'm not always right and get things wrong but I like seeing different points of view put across in a respectful manner. Have a lovely evening. No offence taken whatsoever.
It is what it is Gary as they say. Its a Spoons. I've worked in the kitchen in my local Spoons and evrything, (including fried eggs) come pre packed. There were more chef Mikes than staff in that kitchen lol. Steak, gammon was cooked on the grill. The chicken was imported in huge bags already cooked from..........Brazil. I will say though, it was possibly one of the cleanest kitchen environments I have ever worked in. They are on it!! Still, its the most affordable night out where I am. So there's that.
I know yall make fun of us Americans for our rather unhealthy food. But I'd rather have a fatty, carbohydrate loaded meal than eat somewhere that's so lazy they buy their fried eggs precooked. Constant microwave use is probably far more harmful than the typical American diet
A friend of a friend who works at Spoons went to their "Christmas Menu" training. It consisted of being "trained" into sticking plastic bags in a microwave, zapping them, then opening the bags and putting it all on a plate.
Gary I love your polite comments as I could see by your facial expressions that the food was shyte, Please go to a nice family run homemade food place before Christmas so that we can all be jolly lol. Great video Gary
I think 3 is a bit harsh. A lot of pensioners and people with limited means visit Wetherspoons. They can go there and dine is comfortable surroundings for a fraction of the cost of many other pubs and restaurants.
Another professionally video - the camera work is excellent - thanks for “Giving it a Go” so we don’t have to! Merry Christmas Gary - hope you find somewhere to eat or are you going to Give it a Go at home…… Cheers Swanny
I truly dislike the snobbery that surrounds Wetherspoons pubs. They offer great value meals with very reasonable priced drinks. There’s no air or graces about them. Yes you get the locals, yobbos etc but you get them everywhere. I love Wetherspoon pubs, not only for the above but also the actual buildings. They also support British producers as well which is a huge thing this day and age.
It has nothing to do with snobbery. Tim Martin treats his staff appallingly, and Wetherspoons inevitably put local independents out of business. Ask yourself how they can sell a pint of Punk IPA so much cheaper than Brewdog themselves can? If you want the High Street to only contain chains, keep going to Wetherspoons. Me, I'd rather gouge my own eyes out 😑
Take it you won’t be going back there next year then mate lol Have a great Christmas 🎄 with your family and a massive thanks for all the videos you’ve uploaded over the year, thoroughly enjoyed them 👍👍
We go to our . The Botwell Inn, as a treat every few month's as a treat & haven't had issues with the food. For what u pay it's ok tbh and there's a lot of elderly bods that go in Sunday for lunch. The curry's are nice tbh. Thanks for the review though.....fair as usual.
Hi Gary! I wouldn't usually be so direct in my commentary, but that roast looked like a plate of microwaved, processed muck. The stuffing looked like an old mouldy meatball. The burger was OK, but dry & poorly constructed. I watched Greeno's review of the Christmas meal at Cote the other day & that looked substantially better, but overall it was still very mediocre & overpriced. It seems little more than a Christmas money making scheme for the chains & the quality is in the toilet. Given it's Wetherspoons, I wouldn't be expecting a 10/10, but it should at least be a decent meal. It's not good enough to be serving blatantly sub-standard food. Your score of 3/10 seemed right. Edible, but not by much. Price-wise it's good value for what you had, but not worth it when the food is poor. Lovely Gary, if you weren't 10,000 miles away, I'd be extending an invitation to the CM, your mum & yourself for a home cooked Christmas roast! Though, I imagine thousands of your subscribers would offer the same. 😊 I'm not overly skilled in the kitchen, but I do a very good roast dinner. 🥰 I better leave it there before I waffle on further, as usual! 😂 Take care & see you on the next one. 🌷💙
Hi Gary, coincidentally I went to Wetherspoons today. I had the all day brunch, it was OK. The food is always lukewarm warm, but it was OK. Did not fancy the Christmas menus as I am not a turkey lover. Christmas dinner will be a home made meat and potato pie made by my 85 year old mum, my request, it will be yummy. Thanks for the review, your face eating the turkey on this dinner was hilarious. Thanks Gary and son 🥰
And so this is Christmas. Wetherspoons what have you done ? It could be a good one, but potatoes you have none. A very merry Christmas, but yorkie puddings are there for no one, can I borrow some stuffing ? Because the filling of this pothole, is not quite done . . . Think I nailed it lol

My Uncle David (RIP) Scottish heritage loved to carve out the Roast Turkey every Christmas. You cannot replace the Turkey Carving at Christmas. It is just magical moment. Also needs Cranberry.
It's clever marketing making people think it's affordable to then get repeat business when really if you saved up two wetherspoons food trips you could get vastly higher quality. Time and again it's independent restaurants that are better than chains and people will continue to accept shit until the good independent venues get priced out.

Turkey dinner looks like one of those frozen TV dinners (for us in the US its the Hungry Man Roasted Carved White Meat Turkey). To quote another Food Reviewer, "My disapointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined." You still have 12x days until Christmas so you have plenty of time to turn this around. Great review man, take care.
Just had that christmas meal today. It wasn't anything special but it was edible. The 4 pints I had at £1.99 each went some way to balance the experience. Normally have their pizzas and find them to be very good.
We were told that our local wetherspoons couldn't retain its kitchen staff and it reflected in the fact that many of their meals, especially breakfasts, were cold as they couldn't get people who could organise cooking effectively.
Congrats on 200k subs! I feel fairly sad everytime I end up in a Wetherspoons the rest of the year. Christmas in there, I think, I'd feel very bleak indeed.

I replied that I thought they had run out of egg and they said only scrambled. It was then explained to me that all the eggs were cooked then frozen. At that point I walked out.
@@punkpanther6310 nope, the scrambled eggs just come pre made (in a packet and then microwaved). You could just.. not have them?
@ all I can say that’s what the member of staff told me! I guess they could have been lying to me.

It wasn’t that good lol 😂
I used to work here and remember this meal… the turkey and veg is straight from a vacuum sealed packet and microwaved. Stuffing ball also microwaved along with packet of mash. Wouldn’t choose this from the menu!

The thing with 'Spoons' is, they invest in wonderful old buildings and try and provide food/drinks for maximum value. Sometimes the quality of the food falls short but the way things are going after the latest budget, they could be the last remaining pub on the high street.
That I don't disagree with at all John

started doing spoons quite a lot recently, not had the turkey dinner but what we get is a cheap evening out, reasonable grub and good company. The vast majority of people don't have an educated palette and are happy with spoons quality levels. As a society most are happy with "value for money" that's my ethos and content with it. Congrats on passing 200k subscribers

"palate"
Unplayable 🤣🤣😜
My serious question to you, Gary.
Great honest review, as always Gary and lovely mysterious cameraman xx 💜💜💜

No, couldn't agree less. Bad cooking is bad cooking, there is no excuse for it and no way a restaurant should be able to take advantage of vulnerable 'mustn't grumble' patrons.
@@Adrian-hq5jk I agree but we all know what spoons is like so ya pays ya money and takes ya choice. Or ya don’t? Nobody is forcing anyone to go anywhere… apart from whoever suggested to Gary lol 😂
The difference between a festive and standard meal, anywhere...is roughly a slice of Turkey, a pig in blanket, and an extra £5.

I had a breakfast yesterday and it was good with a refillable hot drink.
Your reviews are honest and fair always, thank you
Than you Jans, I think the curry is good
I really enjoy your videos Gary.
I'd rather have Prets Posh Cheddar. Only £3.99 and very nice.
Thank you and of course, I do agree with that... I just feel it's still not good VFM

I completely agree with you... Chef Mike is always hard at work
most Spoosn have griddles, and the fried eggs are done fresh (from the egg!) on the griddle. the poached eggs are always pre-cooked though.
I know yall make fun of us Americans for our rather unhealthy food. But I'd rather have a fatty, carbohydrate loaded meal than eat somewhere that's so lazy they buy their fried eggs precooked. Constant microwave use is probably far more harmful than the typical American diet
Of course the kitchen would be immaculate.... they don't cook anything in it!
Are they chef's or just microwave attendants?
A friend of a friend who works at Spoons went to their "Christmas Menu" training. It consisted of being "trained" into sticking plastic bags in a microwave, zapping them, then opening the bags and putting it all on a plate.
It's awful
To be fair a lot of the celebrity chef chains do exactly the same

I truly dislike the snobbery that surrounds Wetherspoons pubs. They offer great value meals with very reasonable priced drinks. There’s no air or graces about them. Yes you get the locals, yobbos etc but you get them everywhere. I love Wetherspoon pubs, not only for the above but also the actual buildings. They also support British producers as well which is a huge thing this day and age.
No snobbery here
i agree im not dissing spoons i just saying you dont go there for fine dining
Just don't go expecting quality
Yes local producers in Brazil
It has nothing to do with snobbery. Tim Martin treats his staff appallingly, and Wetherspoons inevitably put local independents out of business. Ask yourself how they can sell a pint of Punk IPA so much cheaper than Brewdog themselves can? If you want the High Street to only contain chains, keep going to Wetherspoons. Me, I'd rather gouge my own eyes out 😑

It was like a cricket ball!

It's clever marketing making people think it's affordable to then get repeat business when really if you saved up two wetherspoons food trips you could get vastly higher quality. Time and again it's independent restaurants that are better than chains and people will continue to accept shit until the good independent venues get priced out.

We were told that our local wetherspoons couldn't retain its kitchen staff and it reflected in the fact that many of their meals, especially breakfasts, were cold as they couldn't get people who could organise cooking effectively.
I once waited 45 minutes for a breakfast there. Stone cold
As always, Gary.......you gave it a go! 😊
Congrats on 200k subs! I feel fairly sad everytime I end up in a Wetherspoons the rest of the year. Christmas in there, I think, I'd feel very bleak indeed.
Thank you very much
Looking forward to a good Christmas dinner Gary after this offering we want the smile and the skip back !
I can't wait for my next one!
Merry Christmas Gary to you and your family your videos always make me happy and I wish I had family at Christmas ❤🎄
