Sushi's just a little baby. She doesn't know the difference between treats and fingers yet
She never will. They are true love bugs
I’m sure she thought they were sausages
Maybe she likes both
Finger give treats, thus finger is a treat.
She probably can't see too well, so people have started to feed her from the finger tips right from the start. So she's used to it now.
I love how the cameraman is always available when it's a cute puppy being groomed, but can't be seen for dust when it's a spicy cat 🤣
Or a ginormous Livestock Guardian Dog that weighs more than Vanessa- 😅

*INSTANT PANIC* 😂😂😂🥺🤦♀️
Probably on the side with first aid kit in one hand, cell phone programmed to phone 911 in the other.
Oh my god she looks like the dogs that like eat a wasp and their muzzle gets all round and swollen 😭😭 what a precious baby 😭😭
My thoughts exactly !!😂😂😂
I couldn't put my finger on it, but yes, that's what it reminds me of !!!!! 😂😂❤
Lmfao hahahaha That's true
My first thought! She looks like she has a mouthful of bees
Right lol I thought something was wrong .
the way all the little babies always climb on you during drying is so freaking cute!!!!
It’s comforting and relaxing for the puppies to be close to another source of warmth during stressful events.
@@ronsamborski6230 That's sort of how it is with all of us.
It's so neat that she creates a positive grooming experience with most furbabies. Some others...not so much.. like mayo
I thought it was just me, I love that
@@billchief397 To be fair, Vanessa makes a positive grooming experience for Spicy Mayo. Spicy Mayo just doesn't make a positive grooming experience for Vanessa.
Sushi: I may be a hippo, but I'm not waterproof!
It's actually a thing that shar pei don't like water. XD My shar pei mix hates hoses, sprinklers, and bath time.
Well to be fair, Hippos don't actually swim, they kind of just run across the water's bottom
Shar Peis are “typically aloof with strangers”… Sushi becomes an absolute snuggle monster with Vanessa within minutes 😍
It happens once they mature. That's why it's so important to socialize them
It’s shar-pei. No s on the end of
@@chrispudd1815 you mean in the same way as it’s “ridiculous pedant” with no s on the end?! 🤔😋🤣🤣🤣
And by the way, according to actual respected dictionaries (e.g. Merriam-Webster) either is correct for the plural; with the s or without 🤷🏼♂️ Different dictionaries also include or exclude the hyphen.
never in my life I've seen a dog better suited for the name sushi
Sushi because she is a whole ROLL ❤️😩
I lost my 12 year old shar pei about 3 months ago. They do unfortunately have a lot of health issues but she was the most loyal, and loving dog I've ever owned. My profile picture is of her as a puppy. Shar peis are great dogs for protection and companionship. They are very close knit with their people and family. I miss my girl every day ❤️
12 Years is a Good Lifespan. Find a Good Breeder, and get another.
I’m so sorry for your loss of your peibie. She was beautiful! Close knit and loyal is exactly what they are, even to the point of developing idiopathic blindness if they end up in shelters because they miss their people.
When you’re ready for another, if you are, and if you need names of reputable breeders in the US, I can send you names of folks I trust. I’d strongly recommend looking at Shar Pei rescue groups, too. It’s a crap shoot on health with them, but people do abandon them and often they aren’t approachable in kennels because they’re so freaked out with being away from their original people that they won’t engage. They shut down.
Anywho…I know the feeling of missing these peibies when they cross. It’s like a piece of your heart is gone… I hope you try again and find another soul Pei! Love ya!
@@taobarb1 thank you so much for your kindness, I really needed this today ❤️
I'm so sorry for your loss; we just lost our 12 and half year old gal two months ago, so I feel you. She was also sweet and loyal, but had a lot of allergies that we had to figure out. Did your girl also hate water with every fiber of her being? I tried to get our girl used to it as a puppy, but she made it sound like I was murdering her. By year 12 she wasn't as loud but still grunting and super unhappy about baths, even towel baths!
she was so beautiful i’m so sorry :( 🤍
it's actually nice to see a sharpei who has not been pushed too far in crossbreeding to have the most possible folds. Some breeders push breed standards too far and the dog suffers as a result.
They SURE do!!! all too often in the vets office Veins… cannot be found in all those rolls😢 they have to slice open the skin to actually SEE the veins! In an emergency, when an iv is crucial… this is very dangerous!! Please consider this if you can’t restrain from buying one😢
@@cecile2000 absolutely peis are not supposed to have that many wrinkles and they should actually grow out of most of the wrinkles when they are older I had an absolutely beautiful pei and he had only a few wrinkles as an adult dog
Woww I never heard of that! I dont know much about this breed but sounds traumatic for all involved!@donnamcfarland162
I mean she can still barely breathe just standing there...
Go for the shortest coat and make sure they can breathe okay. The folding skin can be overly mucinous and will grow into masses that need to be surgically removed. Even my pedigreed dog born in 1989 had skin that not only easily punctured but would result in a three point tear.
The Shar Pei's look and attitude scares other dogs into biting them so have needle and thread or go to the vet at unexpected times.
They are super loyal. Not the biggest people pleasers. They are protective of your children so they need to be monitored when all the kids are goofing around?
Sheba 'bites butts' if not introduced to everyone, the kids would say.
Have your potential puppy screened for the autoimmune disorder that seems to go along with an overly squishy snout, and the not to AKC standards, long bear coat.
Shar Pei make an amazing pet that you will cherish and remember always.
I have never been more invested in a puppy's chubby little knees before in all my life.
ahhh a Shar Pei! I was with my mom one day to get some stuff for our shep at the vet. A lady pulled in next to me with a litter of Shar Pei puppies. I asked her if she needed a hand wrangling them into the office. I ended up taking like four of them in...one was nuzzling my goatee and I fell in love with the little stinker. I looked at my mom...she said "No!" the vet assistant asked if she needed to frisk me as i was leaving to make sure i didn't pup-nap one of them.
lol I can understand
I thought Sushi was going to "disappear" from her grooming. Just too cute!
😂❤
They're Addictive. Once You've Owned a Shar-Pei, there's no going-back, to Other Breeds.
😂😂😂
Thank you for your disclaimer about Health and behavior issues with the breed. Although they are very cute they are a very expensive breed to own because of health issues. Sushi is absolutely adorable❤
I had a shar-pei mix when I was a teenager. He was the sweetest dog - a big dope who loved pink lady apples and wanted SO badly to be friends with our cats (the cats weren’t interested).
What a sweet boy! Pink lady apples are really nice ❤
i love that you specified pink lady apples haha. he had good taste, those are my favorite apples as well
I love Shar Peis! I own a Bear Coat named Manatee!
If you’re looking to get one, know they are prone to skin and ear infections, kidney problems, and a genetic condition called “Shar Pei Fever” that can affect the joints and kidneys. And socialization is a must if you want them to be friendly with other dogs and people.
That's SUCH a cute name for a Shar Pei😍
As soon as I saw this video in my recommendations I thought "I hope Tom sees this!" Glad to see you have! Hope you and your lovely Manatee have a great day!
Good one. Manatee is a perfect name for a Shar Pei-they have the same face! And you’re absolutely right about early, ongoing and thorough socialization for this breed. That cute face and body can hide a wealth of sins. As an adult, a non or under socialized Shar Pe can be a real liability: they can be quite aggressive towards other dogs, they are easily triggered and can be unpredictable or even aggressive with strangers, children and other pets. They can be dominant, stubborn and unruly even with their own family. Socialization and training are therefore an absolute must with this breed. They are definitely not an advisable choice for first time or novice pet owners.
Do you research! Make sure your pocketbook is deep and your heart is huge. One is never enough. They were stubborn, but very loyal.
Don't they have a kind of sandy coat, too?
her snout is so disproportionately large, adorable
Tells you where most kisses should be.. just saying 😂
Comically large, ludicrously capacious if you will.. 😂❤
Her snout reminds me of seals’😍
Definitely! Reminds me on my mini Dachshund, my first one. Her ears got so long like a Bassett and would step on them, last about 2 weeks. Her chest also got real pointed like a mini bull dozer. That lasted longer. My second one didn't have any of those growing distinctions. Sushi's snorting is just too much! I love it 💜
Not really. It gives the dog too many health issues. You can hear the puppy snorting to breathe. Not worth the cuteness at all
Every night after working with wildfire survivors here in Maui for the last year I watch your videos. It transitions me back to some normalcy and joy. The 1 year anniversary of the Maui fires is coming up and it’s difficult. It’s been a really tough journey and you help me replenish myself so I can start all over again the next day. 😥Aloha from Maui Mahalo for all YOU do ❤❤❤❤
Oh my, that face!!!!! 😍
30 years ago I was in college in NYC and there was a dry cleaning place that had a Shar Pei mascot. His name was Magoo. He loved everyone, and basically became the neighborhood dog. I stopped in every day to greet him. He was a sweetheart. 🥰
Magoo is an amazing name for a Shar Pei!
Lol. My First Shar-Pei, was named Magoo. I think that it's a Common Shar-Pei Name ( I've run-across a Few). Lol
Magoo means baby in Kannada (the native language of Karnataka in India)!!!
@@samrajnipatil9138 😍❤️🥰
And those cute little ears!!!! Adorable.
You have to watch this breed. I’ve had two, one was affected by Shar pei fever. Stress can trigger an episode and it can be fatal. No one knows why they get them or when, there are daily preventative meds, but they can still get a fever sporadically. When one hits you have to act quick. Very few vets have experience with it and people aren’t warned before adopting, they just see the wrinkles and live the look.
Thank you for mentioning this! It's quite sad to see that sushi has this super early and hopefully the owners will be informed through this comment ♥️
@@LazyLoonLazarushow can you tell sushi has it?
Given the face of this poor thing, it's not hard to imagine there being issues
omg I was in love with Sushi anyway but I LOST IT with the lil piggy noises 😭 the sweet babyyyy
I had a sweet Shar Pei rescue named Grace. She was the best protection I EVER had, & an excellent guard dog. She knew & liked my sons, but they quickly learned not to stick an arm inside an open car window or enter my bedroom without me telling Grace to stand down.
They do have skin issues, eye issues, and allergies as Vanessa mentioned. And she definitely didn't like other dogs with one BIG exception: She loved Great Danes! The rescue place I got her from was actually a Great Dane rescue. She felt comfortable with them, and naturally recognized them immediately from a distance. The only time she ever had a friendly reaction to another dog, it was a Great Dane. She immediately wanted to play. I miss her, but she did all those have health issues that Vanessa mentioned.
I love how the puppies have to give her a hug when they get a blow dry
I didn't know what was missing from my life and today I realized it was a baby Shar-Pei with a happy hoodie on 🥺
SHE IS SO FLOOFY! Her little pig noises are the cutest.
Our Shar Pei just passed a couple of months ago. Her name was Ohana and she was a great dog, a true sweetheart who was super protective of my nieces; she absolutely hated water, no matter in what form. She did have some health problems; turned out that she was allergic to poultry and some environmental allergies and ended up being on allergy pills. Near the end she also started to have seizures, which was hard to see her go through. She was 12 and a half and was one of the best dogs we've ever had; she loved small dogs (she grew up with my maltese/chihuahua mix) but didn't trust bigger dogs because she was bit at a dog park twice because of owners who couldn't control their loose dogs. Miss her a great deal, but it was nice seeing a video of a puppy. Wonderful breed, but not low maintenance and are stubborn to train.
My condolences.
i....accidentally read that as "obama" like the former usa president. rip doggo tho
I'm not a puppy person but she is adorable! What a lovely temperament.
I had a Sharpei mix that I absolutely ADORED. One thing you should know is that lots of pet insurances will refuse to insure this breed. When my vet charted that she was a Sharpei, her claims were denied. When she was described as mixed breed, the claims were paid, until she got Sharpei Familial Fever. From that point, nothing was covered, and I ended up dropping it. So, definitely hit or miss with pet insurance. You WILL need money for vet bills, potentially huge vet bills. Even when she was costing money I couldn't afford, I never regretted rescuing her. She was amazing. I lost her in 2014 at 14 years old (which is really long for this breed) to a combo of lymphoma and Cushing's Syndrome and I still miss her every. Single. Day.
My condolences.
Snorty little bugaboo, adorable pup ong
I had a Shar Pei for 16.5 years. The breeder was astonished he had lived that long. He definitely was a one person dog and very protective of me. He was cautious of visitors initially but once he got to know someone he was very friendly. No medical problems, thank goodness. Super great pet. He was never a show dog but he was the standard for his breed. I didn’t want rolls of skin hanging off him.
OMG she's like a little teddy bear! ADORABLE!!!
2:00 she looks like she has great wisdom to share in exchange for more treats.
Love how she was hugging you while you blow dried her!!❤
I had a sharpei growing up, he was named Buddy. He was the sweetest thing, had an all black coat. His proportions were good and he only had moderate wrinkles in his face. Those jowls were there though, and he loved to slurb all over me. I miss him a lot, he had a cancerous growth that just kept getting bigger and couldn't be removed, so eventually he had to be put down a few years ago. He'll always be in my heart.
"Sniff the brush..... not me." 😂
We had a Shar Pei many many years ago… His name was Slinky. Very high maintenance dogs with all of those wrinkles. He only lived 8 years before he developed a kidney disease. Sad, so sad! I sure miss him, he was very good natured, smart and loved kids.
Such an adorable girl...❤❤❤❤ She is a roll of soft fluff
I had a Sharpei Doberman mix. They really are a loyal one person dog, and he was all mine But he loved my boys and their friends. He thought he was just one of them. He would watch the kids play outside and I always knew if an adult walked up because he would start barking. He wasn’t great with other dogs but that was my fault. I should have socialized him more but I was busy with two little kids🤷♀️. He loved women but wasn’t very fond of men. I loved that dog. He’d take a bullet for his family but was also a sweet man❤️
Lady I melt with water. You’re trying to kill me!!!!
Always glad to see that no matter how many dogs you do, you're still able to treat them with affection.
The cutestest and fluffiest lil'hippo-pig we ever did see! ❤😍😁
Ikr 😂❤
I’ve waited so long for a Shar Pei to appear on this channel and it finally happened!!
Shar Pei are amazing dogs. I own two Shar Pei mixes and they make amazing companions. You just need to make sure you can properly care for them. They are not a cheap breed and have many health issues.
Her grunting is hilarious.
Der arme Hund hat offensichtlich bereits im Welpenalter Probleme mit der Atmung. Das finde ich überhaupt nicht komisch, sondern sehr schade.
No it is horrifying! She can't breath properly!
I don't know if it's the case with her but not all dogs who snort or oink have nose problems. I have a cattle dog who is healthy as a horse and Piggy is one of her nicknames because she snorts and oinks quite a bit as an expressive sound. So cute!
@@LondonLite02 Cattle dogs have a proper snout length which means they can typically breath just fine. Shar-peis are brachycephalic (their snout is too short relative to the rest of their head) which means they are at risk of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome. BOAS is a horrible condition which typically gets worse as the dog gets older. Dogs with severe BOAS can't enjoy normal dog activities like going for a walk or sniffing, because they are constantly short of breath.
@@LondonLite02yes but in brachy dogs like shar peis it usually is
Finally ! A Shar-Pei. I currently have my 3rd Shar-Pei ( a Bear Coat). My First 2, were Brush Coats , which I prefer ,due to Allergies. Reputable Breeders have Improved the Health of Shar-Peis, by Responsible Breeding. If People are Interested in Shar-Pei, I Recommend the CSPCA( that can Refer People to good Breeders), or get a Copy of the Magazine " The Barker" , which will Help. Sushi was a Great Pup. She did Well with Water , and I applaud the Owner for Grooming & Socialing Her Early. Have a Great Life, Sushi.
Love how the puppies always want to be held! 😅
I used to have neighbors that had two sharpei’s with standard coats. They walked them every day, those were gorgeous dogs!
so cute but can be a whole lot of dog grown up! glad family is keen on getting her socialized early!
I wish we could see more of the owners reactions at the end of the videos. Especially when it a big difference from when they get there and when you’re done doing such an amazing job on them. 😊 love watching your videos.
How adorable! I thought Vanessa wasn't going to return her. But wow, that's going to be one big pup when she's grown. Look at those paws!
@@Yesica1993 not necessarily peis don’t generally get any bigger than about 75-80 and that’s the high side
@@christinelauzon9207 That's big enough!
@@Yesica1993 fair lol I guess size is different for everyone
She is the cutest little girl 💓.
THAT FACE!! 😍
Sharpeis look silly but they will protect their hoomans when needed!
It melts my heart every time a puppy needs to be on your shoulder for comfort! ❤❤
so that's what a fluffy hippo looks like!
I have 3 Shar peis. Best dogs ever. Lots and lots of vet visits but they give the best love
That is one smooshy Sushi - and she is PERFECT
I had a Shar Pei with the standard coat and wrinkles galore 😂😊😂 Her Head was the biggest part of her body when she was a baby and she was a little spit fire with a stubborn streak a mile wide 😅😂😅 She was very protective of my little boy and she would always put hers in front of him to make sure strangers didn't get near him 😊❤😊 and she would stop him from doing something she didn't want him to be doing 😂 that part would aggravate him, but I would Praise her for always keeping him safe from himself and others ❤❤ They do come with a lot of health concerns, but we were very fortunate that Cheyenne was a very healthy girl until she passed away from old age ❤ We had a Blessed Beautiful Life With Our Shar Pei ❤
Sushi is adorable. Look at that cute face.🥰 sweet puppy.😊 Definitely loves treats and cuddles.
Beautiful baby. I raised 9 Pei's. I was very fortunate that i didn't have any issues with mine. They are very smart, loving loyal companions
I’ve always loved Shar-Pei’s funny little faces 😭❤️
Shar Pei’s are most loyal dogs. Had 3 growing up. Unfortunately their health problems are cutting their lifespan so much. Hopefully breeders now are more responsible
Her face is so squishy
I have two Shar Pei/Husky mixed siblings, and they were unplanned, but adorable and well-loved. They hate water, no matter what we do! Both breeds tend to be neopbobic, and boy do mine exemplify that! Meanwhile, we've avoided most of the health challenges, except for the occasional ear fungal infection. They both have husky shading but very short, bristly coats. The girl is "blonde" like their Shar Pei mama and the boy "brunette" like their Husky father. Good, loyal dogs.
Look at her little FACE 😭🖤
I miss those little pig noises so much!
I grew up with an Icelandic sheepdog, he had no problems breathing, but he always made those noises when he was wery pleased about scratches ❤ 😭
Had too Google the breed, they look very sweet and snuggly :)
Shar-Pei puppies are hilarious
My grandmom had a shar-pei when I was a kid back in the 80s. His name was Clarence. He was coarse-coated and I would actually get a rash from petting him too much. He loved us kids so much and was very protective.
What a sweet, curious, little angel! She's adorable!
2:45 her grunts do sound exactly like a hippo 😆
What a cutie potato ❤
My family used to own 3 shar Pei's, two females and a male. We used to show our 2 female shar Pei's in dog shows. Unfortunately they have all passed away now but they were very lovely dogs 🐕
I love how her face is the biggest part of her body 😂
OMG the little snorts!!! AHHHHH! Reminds me of my Mom's old service dog. He would snort and moan (if you massaged his little ears) and make all sorts of sounds I've never heard a dog make lol. He was a Cane Corso. Beautiful beast that he was...
The little leg rolls have me sobbing.
Cute aggression rising......GIVE ME THAT BABY PUPPY! 😍😍
What a mischievously sweet little girl, Vanessa! This is why I love your channel!
So adorable!
I'm so jealous that so many dogs allow their nails to be clipped. I got a seven month old puppy Rio who HATES to have his nails clipped or ground. I thought it would be a cinch to train him but after one month of trying I still can't do it.
The silver lining is when he crawls on my bed at night and goes to sleep at night, I can use an emery board! So I bought some 60 grit nail files and some 80/100 grit (one on each side). He sleeps through the whole thing. 🤦🏻♀️ But now his nails are nicely filed down.
She is so cute.God bless her.
4:40 Sushi left you a pwesent!! 🎁💩
Mine was a shar pei and German shepherd mix and hated baths! She was quite the character, after I would give her a bath if any of my clothes were hanging on the line to dry she would pull just my clothes of the line and leave everyone else’s alone! Miss her so much!
I have a shar pei/husky mix. She has a quiet charm and definitely hates baths. Seems to be a shar pei trait. XD
Can't imagine how big her head will be full grown😮cute pup🐾though😊
Sushi is really a nice dog. And you are correct about lots of health problems
I was thrown off at first with the fur until you explained the differences. 🥰
My mom has a Shar Pei/Staff Terrier mix. She has a long, thin body with a short, smooth coat all with the perfect Hippo face. She's such a softie and loves playing with other pups.
I thought she was purring like cat from time to time. Such a lovely baby, who needed hugs~
Adorable! I love her little snorts❤
Her purrrrs and piglet snorts 🥰 I have a chow and she purrs and snort/snuffles too. They’re so cute but very open to abuse from “breeders”.
Sushi's grunt is so sweet! She's a precious ball of wrinkled fuzz! ❤❤❤
What a wonderful person the groomer is! She takes such care of the doggie.
Oh my gosh! That huge noggin along with the piggy noises is just too cute!
You show your clients so much care...
I love when I know what kind of dog it is before I read the caption! 2:50 she sounds like a piggy lol. My cats got triggered
😂😂😂
Oh my gosh I’ve been waiting on you to make a video with a shar pei! My pei baby and I watched this! Love it! Thank you ❤
Yes, my shar pei was aloof with strangers. He would tolerate them, but eventually, I would tell strangers that he would rather not be petted and no one ever argued.
He was the same with other dogs... If they kept their distance he would tolerate/ignore them, but get in his face... your looking for a fight. (Except Chow chow dogs. He didn't like them and would go after them, no matter what... So I had to stay alert. Luckily there aren't too many of them here in sunny 🏜️ Arizona. 💖🌞🌵😷
She was purring like a wee cat 🥰 I’m in love!!
I hope the owners do something about her Brachycephalic breathing. It is pretty bad! Absolutely adorable little bugger!!
Yeah, so many comments about how cute the snorting sounds are. People don't understand what that is.
Given they got a purebred dog with a bear coat, I'm sure they think it's real cute.
My thoughts exactly. Those snorts are not cute! 🫁
Yea they are so cute but this video almost made me a bit sad. So many ppl don't even realise all the health problems that come with a well-breed pure-breed let alone a badly breed one. They have everything from shar Pei fever, in-turned eyelids, conjunctivitis, ear infections, skin infections, high levels of aggression(more common in poorly breed males), pododermatitis (infected paws. Can be VERY painful), kidney problems and difficulty breathing. I really hope that ppl that get this breed are aware of what they are getting. There are good ones but also if not breed proparly the expenses wrach up quickly and poor pooch doesn't get a good quality of life.
back yard breeder
What an absolute sweetie pie. I've heard they're very fast learners and super easy to train. Anyone?
Big sniffer for small doggo ❤
She is too cute! I love her oink noises! I met my first Shar-Pei while we were camping. A regular Walker brought her Yoshi everyday to walk. This past April I saw her with a different dog. She said that Yoshi had passed away.😢 I hope we get to see Sushi as she grows. That’s a whole lot of squishy cuteness!!!😊
That dog is purring
Yeah I noticed a few times that she sounded like she was purring! 😂😂
Me too!!
it's not purring, she can't breathe normally..😔
She's choking on her own airway.
my grandparents had shar peis growing up! In my experience they can be the sweetest and most patient family dogs around! They aren’t as happy or high energy as many other breeds
maybe sushi bites fingers because she thinks they’re chopsticks. let her live her fantasy!
I've heard the Shar-Pei described as "a vet's best friend".
