I agree that the 5F1 can be pretty muddy. I would recommend the Vibro Champ. The tone stack can scoop the midrange a touch in a way that I really like. You keep the responsiveness of the single ended class A output. Lovely amp.
I think low wattage single ended amps really benefit from larger speakers than the 6" and 8" ones then they are usually paired with. A 4-7 watt tube amp paired with a 12" speaker in a nice cab avoids the boxiness and the low end crapping out on you. Not enough amps are made in this configuration unfortunately.
I have a '64 Blackface Champ, an early Blackface. All stock but I had to put a Weber speaker in it as the original Oxford was tired and flabby. The plug is still two prong, which will probably kill me someday.
HI THERE BUDDA . FENDER AMPS . THEY AMPLIFIED THE NOTES BUT THEY PROJECTED THE NOTES OUTWARD. SO IF YOU PLAYED IN A BAR OR SIMILAR PLACE THE NOTES ARE AMPLIFIED TO CUT THROUGH THE REST OF THE MUSIC NOISE THAT HAPPENS WHEN THE NOTES BOUNCE OFF THE WALLS. SO WHAT YA THINK. ITS A NOTE PER NOTE AMPLIFIER. AND THE CORDS ARE HARMONICALLY BALANCED WITH THE TUBES IN THE AMP. THE TUBES ARE BALANCED WITH THE NOTES FREQUENCY AND NOTES HARMONICS. THINK ON THIS. HAVE A GREAT DAY
Friday afternoon, a glass of your favorite libation, a guitar and a Champ on a chair will heal you. Glorious sound, your Champ and the Tele at 06:39.
Thanks a lot
Man, I love to hear you play jazz on that rig!
It’s pleasing as hell
My old champ with a celestion speaker is such a workhorse it’s been through a lot and still
Keeps sounding amazing great vid
🙏
Very sweet up to 4, like the man said. T-Bone Walker would have loved your out-of-phase Tele sound :)
p.s. who is “the man” in that Rig Rundown video?
Eh! Eh!
Dave Cobb. A great producer. Did Chris Stapleton and Rival Sons for example
...that was just in time! :-D great amp btw!
🙏
I have a Swart 6v6 which is basically a Champ and I love that amp. Obviously not for everything, but it is so much fun to play.
It’s a great tool!!

Yes I know but I love the boxiness
