      Brian May (the legend) uses 6 pence coins since they’re cheaper than buying an actual pick and he claims they are the best. He also plays on 8 gauge strings so I don’t know how he doesn’t snap every high string ever.

    Barefoot Buttons are SUPER practical if used barefoot (or playing with socks). Here in Sweden (and a lot of Europe) we don’t wear shoes indoors, so they’re really useful here, as metal footswitches can actually be kind of sharp and a Barefoot Button solves all of that, as then you get a large and smooth surface to stomp. Hence, the name.

      @humanwritescode ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are quite a few digital pedals that allow you to split on frequency bands and process them separately.
      It's a little trickier on analogue pedals because you need to do a high-order low-pass and high-order hi-pass (and high-order bandpass if you want to have three freq bands) to avoid frequency amplification near the poles (the frequencies where rolloff begins). High-order filters aren't very musical as they can easily separate fundamental frequencies and their harmonics. They're also hard to implement without impacting the phase of the signal. Add to that the fact that if you run the split signal out into other effects, you can't guarantee the later pedals won't mess with the signal phase and cause weird phase interactions when the two signals eventually get recombined.

    • @mgumodena
      @mgumodena ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a Roland VGA-3 with an additional GK-2A digital pickup that you would mount permanently just one mm from the bridge. Then you could mix the digital with the normal sounds to create all sorts of effects. The digital signal was then processed by the amp so you could simulate any guitar type, from acoustic to Les Pauls to Teles, Strats, 12 strings, sitar, synths… great fun and versatility. I’ve seen demos on TH-cam of guitars without any pickups using only the digital output.
      The amp as such had like 12 different amp models.
      But I found the amp in general to be too “digital sounding” - it was early 2000s so technology for replicating tube amp sounds was at its infancy - and not warm enough so I changed to a valve amp.

      I have one of those. I think the double pick was called the Lo Bello pick. The idea was to create a 12-string sound with the stacked picks but it didn't work that well. The first pick hitting the string would bend a lot so that the string would effectively contact both picks at the same time. The gap between the picks wasn't that large. If the gap between the picks was larger or the picks were stiffer it might have been a different story. Best bet: just buy a 12-string guitar.

    Headstock tuners are amazing for solo playing or with a relatively quiet band. I use a Korg one at home and I find it great, but when used with a drummer who can't stop hitting the snare while you tune (which means any drummer, basically) the vibration gets into the guitar body and these things are very sensitive to that so you can't tune well in that situation. But I think the problem is the drummer, not the tuner. I ended up getting a pedal tuner, Mooer like sized for situations that include drummers and I use the Korg for anything else.

      I do the same thing, I mainly play 3 different sizes of Earnie Ball Everlasts but I also have some Bog Street picks with grip holes and different size blades on each size and some picks made of various woods and metals. It all depends on what song I'm playing, I use a different guitar/pick/amp for almost every song when I'm just jamming on my own at home. • @ideitbawxproductions1880

    ok, let's go through these:
    0:26 Stomp Switch Toppers: practical if you play in bare/sock feet, but kinda pointless outside of that
    1:24 ProCo RAT Tail: kinda pointless, maybe a useful backup if your distortion pedal dies
    4:11 Tuners: practical for sure, as long as it covers your needed range (eg some Snark tuners have issues picking up low B bass strings)
    5:25 MXR Paperweight: pointless as all hell, but the fact it's a real thing and not just a joke (which I thought it was) is amazing... dumb, but amazing
    6:21 Sound Stone: possibly practical? Hopefully it works better than the E-Bow
    8:47 Pulstron & The Bright Switch: pointless, a simple volume pedal or a tremolo would work better than that thing
    12:45 Picks: as a tool, practical; as far as worrying about how it affects your tone, pointless. Like the test at 16:19 showed, the difference from one to the next was practically negligible. It's basically the same point as your Bad Monkey video if swarms of butthurt guitarists didn't completely miss the point
    17:16 The Submarine: depends on how you can utilise it, but I'm leaning really heavily towards practical
    20:00 Pick Holders: as someone who loses picks, *a lot,* this is very practical, no question
    21:30 "Open E" Capo: if I can see myself having fun with it & exploring its possibilities, then it's practical... and I'd definitely have fun with this
    23:56 this video: practical
    26:43 more ridiculous pick tests: yes
    29:17 "Dot Warner; her nose is missing"

Secondly different colours make the pedals standout more. Also the barefoot buttons are super high quality and won the NAMM guitar accessory award two years ago... but beyond all of that Brett and Susan are two of the most lovely people I’ve ever met, we like to support them because they are good people who saw a niche in the market and filled it! They are battling against cheap knockoffs of their product on a daily basis but they rise above it all and continue to create new things for us to “accessorise” our pedalboards with, Thorpy.

    The Stomp Switch Toppers were great for me when I had a Line 6 Firehawk: I’d usually unintentionally hit a front-row foot switch when I’d hit a back-row switch.
    Now that I have a pedalboard, I’m going to add several of these toppers to some of the pedals to make it easier to hit the switch.

    Cake's version of I will Survive is one of my favorite covers. Fantastic.

    My girlfriend just broke up with me. Makes me wonder, Josh. Are relationships pointless or practical...?

      I am not Josh, I would say she is pointless and don't waste emotion over it! Plenty out there... Till I got married I didn't think relationships were real. Now its cheaper to keep her.

      @@doomgoon2755 Actually, if it happens every month, buy a pedal.
      If it's every few days with Tinder, maybe rather start collecting picks.

      Aye man, she broke up with you? Then she doesn’t deserve what you have to offer :) take a lil while off try to focus on yourself and making yourself feel good, take care of your body, and mental health with exercise of some level, even just a daily walk outside, and women will flock to you, when you feel good about yourself your greatness shines through even more
