    Just finished putting in mosaic tile using redi poxy in redi base. Followed the steps you showed, and it worked great. About 37 min working time with poxy. Have everything cut and ready. Practice dry fitting the tile before poxy also helps. Ready appreciate your video's thank you!

    Enjoyed your video . Very informative . I just have one thing to say about the process. I have been installing tile for about 48 years now . One thing i always do is protect the floor and the surrounding areas . I know for a fact that it is very easy to drop a little epoxy accidentally and not see where it fell till after the tiling process . By that time the epoxy has hardened and its a bitch to clean up later . A little before protection goes a long way ! Keep up the good work .

    Best video on Tile Redi ever .Thank you!
    Difficulty is a tight retrofit of the Tile Redi shower base on a concrete slab. Aligning the 2" riser precisely with the molded-in-place spigot in the pan is difficult because you have no access from underneath. You have to get the riser to be the correct height below grade and a precise distance +/- 1/16th of an inch from both walls.This is supposed to be ROUGH-IN ! And you have to allow for the height(if any) of the mortar you set the pan in. Yes, a hammer handle helps. But you can eliminate the most difficult issue - the stub-out height precision. The spigot in the pan has a molded 'stop' that is 3/4" deep.I ground mine out so I could stub out to grade. Easy to slide the spigot over the taller stub-out.Dry fit to test first !
    After the mortar under the pan has completely set, cut off the excess riser with an inside-pipe cutter - carefully ! Cover and smooth over the cut with some solvent cement or silicone adhesive. The grate covers the ugly (but easier) connection. I hope this helps. And yes another vote for Epoxy Grout. Have you tried the dishsoap trick to help cleanup?

    • @TodayIWorkOn
      @TodayIWorkOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very interesting. I was going to contact tile Redi and ask them to remove that stop at 3/4” to give more room for an above the plywood/concrete install. I have thought about doing the same but I don’t want to risk a leak. If that area leaked the whole pan is coming out. Acrylic bases I’ve installed years ago do not have a stop and your method has crossed my mind many times. Lol. Thanks for the comments and compliment. Lastly, since I started my channel I have learned from comments like yours. Truly appreciated!

    • @schnellgelb1746
      @schnellgelb1746 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      one more suggestion: When roughing in the P trap below grade support it firmly with a brick and pieces of old tiles as shims.Pack around but not above with gravel. This allows you to push down the pan and 'shimmy the pan without distorting the drain pipes.

    Nice video, clear explanations and commentary. I understand you prefer the Redipoxi over modified thinset, but I need to lay the tile within the next day or so and Redipoxi doesn't seem to be stocked locally (Clearwater, FL). You mentioned you like the thinset if it's applied on top of the Redipoxi but how about laying down a couple coats of Aquadefense then go with the thinset on top of that. Thank you, and keep up the good work!

    • @TodayIWorkOn
      @TodayIWorkOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use a really good thin set and you should be fine. It's not in a video, but I tried the basic LFT mortar that HD sells(Versabond LFT) for the side tile and honestly, it stuck really well. I was very pleased with the result. Buy the recommended mortars on the list and you should be fine. Tech changes, that's what tile Redi did and it seems like the modified mortar does stick! In my next bath I might do a mortar instead, lol.

    This video was a great help to me, thank you. I'm a rookie, and I have a couple of stupid questions if you'll tolerate me. First, I've got a Reditile pan installed with the flashing kit. It looks like with the flashing installed, I can just run my backerboard in front of the flashing, all the way down to the base. Correct? Second, when waterproofing, do I need to use a membrane and Redguard, or just the fiber tape and red guard? Thanks again!

    • @TodayIWorkOn

      If you want to build out the wall, i guess you can put the substrate in front of the base, but you don’t have to. The substrate usually goes on top of the tile redi base.

    • @TodayIWorkOn
      @TodayIWorkOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t install the glass, it’s another company. They do install the base brackets though the tile Redi base because that’s the only way to install the glass without it moving. Tile Redi does not recommended for obvious reasons, for liability protections. I would never worry about the drilling since thousands of glass companies drill though the waterproofing every day. They do make this tape that is strong, but I don’t trust it.

    Thank you for a great video.
    I have a Tile Ready pan that I purchased almost 2 years ago (2020) but due to family health issues I was unable to start the work until recently. I used the epoxy to install the floor tiles and it came out great. You may have already answered this, but I am concerned about installing the wall tiles.
    My wall tiles are about 7.75" tall, approximately 2.75" taller than the base so they will be partially on the hardibacker. Should I use the epoxy or thinset for the first row of tiles?
    Assuming that the epoxy is thinner than the thinset - wont the second row of tiles "stick out" further than the first row?
    Thank you for your help.

      There’s a list of approved epoxy’s in the instruction sheet, or you can look it up online. You can mortar over the epoxy if you like, but if some tile stick to the epoxy, you are not getting that tile removed. You would have to buy a new pan.

    • @TodayIWorkOn

    I understand the concept of why it is recommended to lay down some felt or garbage bags between the subfloor and the pan, when you lay down the mortar. What is your thought on laying the mortar bed down on a self leveling substrate, without using a barrier?

    • @TodayIWorkOn
      @TodayIWorkOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will do the same, take moisture out of the mortar too quickly which might hurt the stick to the tile Redi base. Anything that’s absorbs moisture, like a self leveling mortar will be the same result.

      Depends on what tile you put down concerning the notch. Usually I use 1/8x1/8 notch for small format tile. If it’s pebbles, I go 1/4x1/4 v notch. It’s an amazing product and I can sleep well at night the pan will not fail.

    Great video. Quick question…. Will regular thinset adhere to the redo-proxy? I tried to use the redo poxy for the last row and made a mess, decided to scrape it off and abort. How do you tile over the seam where the Hardi and flashing meet the pan? We installed a pan that doesn’t have plumb edges and now there’s a 1/4 gap between the wall and a straight edge when measured from the bottom of the pan against the floor. The walls on their own are plumb. I don’t feel like filling it with thinset is a good idea, or would even work, so I’m at a loss. Do you ever deal with this on Tile Redi bases?

    • @TodayIWorkOn
      @TodayIWorkOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would need a pic to see what’s exactly going on. If the pan is not installed against the studs, sometimes you need the build out the walls after you install the pan to make everything square and level. The pan can’t bend at all. Is the hardie sticking out 1/4 from the pan or is the pan sticking out 1/4 from the wall? Where’s the gap? You can go to my about and email me a pic. Lol. I’m here to help my viewers!

    Called Tile-Redi on my 42 by 60 base that isn't fully draining, It is a center drain and backside channels are only 1/2 inch deep. They suggested to just thin setor epoxy a little deeper in these areas. Question for you is if I choose their epoxy, could I divide the process in two steps. One....creating the proper slope to the drain. And let that dry. Two....lay the tile. I am concerned that if I do it all in one step, I am sure to maybe press too hard down setting in the tile and then disturb the underlying epoxy used first for leveling since it will still be fluid. So will the second layer used to set the tiles bond well with the first leveling layer?

    Second - I am using 4"x 10" marble base molding around the entire inside of the pan walls and outside of the curbs with a matching marble tile cap for the curbs. Are you recommending I use Mapei LFT modified thin-set or more of the Redi Poxy for that too?

There must be a reason Tile Redi did not specify a cementitious product intended for bonding foam to concrete like Merlex PolyPrep or Quickrete 1219 ? Then I would run the cable on the ditra mat like I normally would. I would use more redipoxy on the threshold and embed the thermostat and ditra heat cable in the redipoxy. After it set up, I would build out the threshold with 1/4 of mortar because you can’t cut the tile Redi pan at all. It’s too thin. Then I would tile normally. So, would tileredi say ok to this, probably not. But, would I think this would work, I would say yes. You can also build up the trench grate to the height of the tile with no issue. Do you have redipoxy? That WORKS! I've used it on tillable grates and it sticks really well. Modified thin set might also work.... using the PL adhesive sounds super messy.

      @@TodayIWorkOn messy is what I was thinking and, yes! I have redi poxy. I have plenty of redipoxy, a bigger batch and a couple smaller because I bought it last fall before you kinda changed up to modified thin set on floors. But for a pebble floor maybe I'm better off with redipoxy, just nervous about less forgiving with time of putting down pebbles - So, I will for sure use redipoxy on the grate, should I get pebbles all cut and laid out and use redipoxy or modified thinset ? I'll help you do it - lol - thanks again for you help

      My question at end would be in regards to the floor - about a 30x60

      100% precut the pebbles and use this video on how I install the pebbles. Your only difference is you will have to use a grinder to cut the pebbles.

    Is the epoxy a personal conviction or is it a must the old thin set way is not complicated and has always worked so please be more clear about what to use
