CATHOLICISM - Bishop Barron on Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

  • Friends, before she died at age twenty-four on September 30, 1897, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux remarked, “I want to spend my heaven in doing good on earth.”
    Her intercessory power has been manifested in the lives of many, including my own.
    The Little Flower has been a personal friend for a long time, and we adopted her very early as the patroness of Word on Fire.
    Whenever we find ourselves in a difficult situation, we call upon her, and very often solutions more or less present themselves.
    In time, every member of our team would start to notice these “Little Flower moments.”
    We dedicated the “CATHOLICISM” film series to her, and we launched the Word on Fire Institute on her feast day. We continue to rely on her heavenly help to this day.
    On this feast of the Little Flower, please enjoy this excerpt from episode eight of “CATHOLICISM” and consider reading her powerful autobiography, “Story of a Soul.”

    My mother had cancer, and I prayed to St. Therese for weeks for her intercession. Mother traveled a long distance to visit me, and arrived at my door with her arms full of red roses. A mother does not usually give flowers to a son, and I knew these roses were St. Therese saying Mother would be all right. She was, and we had many more years together.

    When I converted from protestantism and joined the Church on 04.20.2019, I took as my confirmation name Thérèse. I struggle with my relationship with God the Father & Jesus due to past trauma. May St. Thérèse please continue to pray for me to know God the Father and Jesus with childlike love and trust.
    Edit: I was sexually molested as a little girl from ages 8-13. I am in trauma therapy.

      St Therese had a terrible spiritual crisis not long before she died where she felt there was a great tunnel or obstacle between her and God She felt God did not hear her prayers. But she persevered and finally felt God’s consolation before her death

      Revisit the obstacles that caused you trauma then ask God, while revisiting each one, "How do I heal in the pain of this memory"?
      God is in the memory, once you learn where He was within it, you will feel closer to Him.

      God always answer prayers. What you need to understand is that although He answer prayers, it may be different than what you ask for or what you think. It’s just that God knows what is needed. And He doesn’t necessarily have a timeline, you ask, He answers. This is where trusting in God’s Divine Providence comes into play. He loves us so very much. He has a plan for all of us.

    • @johnmendez3028
      @johnmendez3028 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@shinsekai7905 🤔….you suggest that “the saints. many people pray to the saints and ended not getting it answer” ⬅️this sounds a lot like your opinion. Consider when Jesus said “knock and the door will be open to you” Our prayer and the pray of the saints prayer work in the same way, effectively knocking on the door. When we knock we always get an answer, and it isn’t always the answer that we want, but it is the answer that God knows is best. Ultimately as in the example of the Virgin Mary when the Angel came to Mary about the Christ child Jesus, we should always want his will over our own.
      Our prayer always should start with God’s will in mind. God always answers our prayers. His answer takes into account ‘needs’ over ‘wants’. When we ask for the intercessory prayer of the saints (asking them to pray for our intentions) it should always be with God’s Will in mind. God knows what is best in accordance with his Holy Will.

    My friend loved roses. At her burial, the ladies were invited
    to take a rose from the bouquet. I so wanted one, but I am a man.
    St. Therese helped me get through my friend's pancreatic cancer and I hope
    offered my friend some consolation while dying.
    I said, St. Therese, I will go to the florist and buy a rose to show my love for you,
    and also in honor of my friendship with my friend.
    An hour later, at the funeral dinner, another friend walked up to me, gave me
    her rose, and said I think our friend would have wanted you to have a rose, too. Take this.
    St. Therese pulls through again ! Praise be Jesus Christ !

      Flee this anti-church.
      God invites us into the throne room to ask for, help, grace, and mercy in times of need. There is no need for saints.
      Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV -
      Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

It is very unlikely that you are my brother considering you defending the anti-church that does not allow regular non-priests to drink the wine of the new covenant. It takes so much strength and it is so challenging, a living hell to have these intrusive thoughts. What a battle she fought. In 1977, I was as an NYPD Sgt. in civilian clothes walking around the streets of NYC. I was planning to do something that was definitely not good for me. But somehow I inadvertently walked into a Christian bookstore that I was most definitely not looking for that day. Disappointed at the venue, I nevertheless decided to stay & browse at the books for sale on the shelves. Suddenly, I was standing face to face with a black & white photo of a young beautiful nun - that appears in this video clip. I felt an immediate romantic attraction to her as though I spotted her across the gymnasium when I was a senior at one of my Catholic High School dances. Her gaze was magnetic. I so desired to know her more intimately. Then a pang of guilt struck me that this was a nun & I shouldn’t be feeling this way. So I turned away & kept browsing up & down other aisles. Sure enough there she was staring at me from the same book placed atop another row of shelves. I picked it up & saw the title was “ A Biography of St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower.” I remembered my mother talking about her when I was young. So I was purchased the book. After reading it I felt I was falling in love with this iron-willed Carmelite sister who would have been a contemporary of my grandmother. Impossible, I thought. But I think she was pursuing me. Next, I devoured her autobiography, Story of a Soul. That did it. I became hooked on Therese. I read everything I could find about her & even began a pen pal relationship with a group of Discalced Carmelites formerly in a Louisville, Ky. Convent. I was privileged to take a six month course on Theresian spirituality being given in St. Patrick’s Cathedral during her centenary in 1997. And I - as well as my classmates - were invited to go to the airport very early one October morning to meet her reliquary when she landed at JFK. She was to begin her tour of New York churches and many others in the U.S. That was a most sacred day in my life with Therese. I got to hug her. Here’s how it happened. My long love affair paid off many times but none as powerful as on that October morning at JFK. After attending Catholic liturgical services in a hangar my classmates and I were asked to form line along the tarmac leading to a mini-van that would take her plexiglass encased reliquary on its tour of New York City churches and elsewhere in the U.S. As I took my place in the line, It happened that my place was at the side door of the mini-van just a few feet back from a uniformed Port Authority Police Officer who was guarding that part of the van.I told him I was a retired NYPD member and added that if he prayed to Therese, his life would never be the same again. He replied, “ What do’ya have a thing for her?” I answered saying , ” I’m nuts about her. She had altered my life. ” Next thing I know her reliquary was loaded into the mini-van from the rear and when it was loaded all the way inside by the pall bearers, the P.A. Officer slid open the side door and said to me, “ Then get in there and tell her.” I climbed in on my knees, wrapped my arms around the plexiglass case holding the small casket or sarcophagus of her relics, and did just that - in tears of gratitude. I will never forget that as long as I live. In closing, my yLouisville Carmelite pen pals once sent me a colorized post card of my Therese and wrote on the back: “ Our Little Sister St. Therese dearly loves her James and has captured his heart. She will draw him closer and closer to her Beloved, Jesus ! “ She did exactly that.
    James Devine, NYPD Lieutenant ( ret. 1985). ❤

    I was drawn to St. Therese when I visited a chapel by chance. I was praying to pass an exam and my faith was not that deep. Come to think of it, it was shallow. But glory to God, I passed and my anxieties were lifted during the exam. But that was just the beginning. Little did I know that that was St. Therese's way of bringing me closer to Jesus. There's really something about her that had drawn me to God closely and it's all thanks to her! I wanted to know more about her and then this popped up! What a sign and what a blessing!

    I have loved St Therese since a child and have always had a statue of her since a child. My mum use to sing the song St Theresa of the Roses which I always loved. After decades of not going to church but still remaining a Christian I went back to church one Sunday. The church was quite empty before Mass started and I found myself an empty pew at the back. Feeling a bit lost, not knowing anyone there I noticed there was a picture of a nun on the pew beside me. I picked it up and it was St Therese and a prayer on the back. I sat reading it for a while and it was beautiful. A man came and sat a little back from me and asked me what I was reading and I explained I have just found it here but she has always been my favourite saint and he said then it was meant for you to find. It felt like a very special moment to me. I kept the picture with her thoughts on Jesus and keep it in my Bible. Her thoughts were that we all love what sparkles, but Jesus is hidden and to find something that is hidden in the real treasure.

    Wonderful video!
    Neither my mother nor me are of The Church, (she's Pentecostal, and I am a secular Satanist) but we both have a fondness for St. Thérèse.
    Jesus's love was so human, so intimate, so small and yet so all-encompassing. She realised this and lived it wholeheartedly.
    I hope to channel that love in everything I do!

    • @alonamaria279
      @alonamaria279 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey , If you don't mind me asking ..what does secular satanism mean ? And if you seem to understand Jesus' intimate love ..why do stay you as a secular satanist , dear ?

    • @MoltandMigrate
      @MoltandMigrate หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alonamaria279 I believe the romantic character of Satan represents the greatest fight against tyranny and authoritarianism, even when (especially when) all hope is lost.
      More concretely, Satanism is the fight against authoritarian Christianity in my country. Most of our elected officials are Christian but do not follow Jesus's teachings about love and forgiveness.
      In my opinion, Jesus's intimate love was taken advantage of and manipulated, resulting in his death at the hands of the State.
      I think Jesus is way more human and humane than the God of the Old Testament. I think Jesus would have made a great Satanist.

    I went to school in the 1950s and 60s and so many of my classmates loved Therese but for some reason I could never feel close to her. Then I read The Story of a Life by Father Guy Gaucher and the light went on. St. Therese suffered many temptations and her life wasn't that easy, but her way of doing even the smallest things with great love is one that anyone can follow.

    When St. Therese reliquary was brought to Manila, i forgot what year, i recall hearing a report on by one of the local networks, that Philippine National Police had a record of having no reported crimes in those days her relicts were here. I cannot recall details on the report but it resounds in my memory.

    Therese's lovely metaphor for grace as the rain falling equally upon the big trees and the little flower, and nurturing each in accordance with their nature, is invoked every day in Buddhist temples, where it is known as the "dharma rain".
