  • It's lilac season here on the farm and we've been busy documenting all of the varieties that are in bloom so that we can eventually add them to the Floret Library. I thought a little tour might be fun! All of the variety names are included below.
The Floret Library is a comprehensive, digital library of flowers available to anyone, anywhere in the world to use for free. It currently includes more than 1,500 unique cut flower varieties that have been grown and tested at Floret.

Krasavitsa Moskvy lilac means the Beauty of Moscow.
It's a famouse variety of the Russian breeder Kolesnikov, bred in 1947.
    With love to Floret❤

Highland Park in Rochester, NY - a park created by Frederick Law Olmsted - has one of the biggest Lilac collections anywhere. Its heaven in the springtime.

If you want to see a profusion of lilacs in so many locations visit Maine in May! Amazing. They are everywhere, in every yard, and in so many colors and varieties. Heritage plantings, new landscape, growing in the periphery of forests. They are truly glorious.

Lilacs are a favorite of mine & these are a beautiful selection. What's missing is the deep red-purples, like Monge & Congo, but perhaps they weren't blooming there yet. I also love President Lincoln for its clear icy-blue panicles & Lucy Baltet for a clear pink, as well as some of the earliest bloomers, like Pocahontas & Uncle Tom (a very old variety used as a pollination parent.) I've pried up local, suckering seedlings & grown them on, finding them where old farmsteads once were. Many are the common lilacs but some are unnamed mysteries. No matter what, all are loved & welcome additions to any garden!

This was a wonderful education and revelation. I love lilacs and nowhere are they compared side-by-side!
Anecdote: Years ago I planted my first lilacs in our front yard. I bought big box lilacs, one in purple and one in white. I twisted them together as they grew with ties. Imagine how dorky I felt when the following Spring I found they didn’t bloom together. 😂 BUT! by three years later they had synced their blooming schedule and looked like one plant. I got a lot of questions and compliments!

Just found you, so exciting! Thank you for explaining each liliac. So hard to choose from; beautiful display!! I have three liliac trees my mother-in-law gave me. It hasn't bloomed yet; hoping that the 2nd year it will.

Watching this in January and dreaming about the scent of lilacs-which I just love. I need more lilacs in my life! Also, just so lush and green outside when this was filmed. My garden is sad and brown and fairly crushed from a recent heavy snow. I guess if I didn’t have to endure winter I wouldn’t be so grateful for spring and summer.

Hoping this year to have blooms. In 23 my lilac bloomed sparsely in fall. It's the lilac that was here on the farm when we bought in 1971. Wish we had smell-o-vision so we could experience the wonderful fragrance of your lilacs. Thank you.

They come from the Ottoman empire, Prussia etc. The one that starts with Kra....is verymold fashioned. Probably one of the originals.
There is also have a korean lilac that is more of a dwarf bush, with far less flowers.
Im fascinated with lilacs and some are much more vigorous than others while others have more scented flowers.
The Mademoiselle is another older variety and very popular.
There are so many varieties, its amazing you were able to find the ones you have.
    Thanks for describing your lilacs.

Thanks for resharing this video, somehow I missed it.
Lilacs are my favorite since childhood. I've moved from the NE to the South & its harder to grow lilacs due to chill hours needed.
I have 3 lilacs in big pots that I'm going to plant in the ground at our new orchard. Your inspiration will have me aquiring vigorous growers to add in North TX!!!! I appreciate your generous information so much!🤍🩷💜🌿
