The E-Brompton is a perfectly useable bike when the battery goes flat. That's not the case with the GoCycle. Nobody is going to go bike-packing across Europe on a GoCycle.
No bike comes close to a Brompton for use in city life. Catch a train to Paris, cycle to a restaurant, stash the Brommie under your table. Perfection.

Some call Brompton analogue and the past while Gocycle the future. I just say whatever floats your boat and isn't it wonderful we have a choice? But I'm a die hard Brompton guy. I've had my Brompton electric for a year now and have come to appreciate its refinement. Bromptons have been around for over forty years refined over and over again as the years passed. As an owner, you get to appreciate those refinements which are not always apparent by just looking at the bike. Just one example of many. Noticed the bag on the Gocycle cannot be attached in its folded position. With the Brompton, the bag stays attached so you can roll the bike around a grocery store in its folded configuration using the bike with its attached large city bag as your grocery cart. It doesn't look like the Gocycle can do that. Also, if your bag attaches to the handlebar or the steering column as it appears is the case with the Gocycle, when you put heavy stuff into the bag like a gallon of milk and a gallon of OJ, the weight of the bag influences the steering of the bike, sometimes, dangerously so. I know...used to have one of those bikes with the bag attached to the handlebars and the steering column which made steering a nightmare when the bag got too heavy. Realizing this, Brompton electric attaches its forward bag to the mainframe of the bike completely unattached and independent from the handlebars and the steering column so no matter how heavy the bag gets, it doesn't affect the steering at all. And if I couldn't instantly transform my bike into my grocery cart so It could help me with my shopping, that would cut out a major part of why I love my Brompton...because it becomes part of your life and lifestyle...not just a vehicle to get you from point A to point B. And there are many more subtle refinements that when you discover them as Brompton-only refinements that no other bikes have such as attaching the forward bag to the mainframe instead of the steering column, that's why world wide people love their Bromptons. I wouldn't trade mine for anything else.
So a bag on the handle bar influences stability. Were is the battery of the Brompton located? Right...
@@burgienl Hello Pierre PP. That's why I said refinements are not always apparent by just looking at the bike. Although it may look like the battery is attached to the steering column and handle bar, the battery is actually attached only to the mainframe of the bike and NOT the steering column or handle bar so the battery in no way influences steering. The engineering of this bike is awesome.
@@burgienl it’s not on the handlebar. The bag is attached to the mainframe not the steerer.

Ps, I really love my Gocycle GS
My feeling is that on first look the Go-cycle looks more exciting etc with its various attributes. And 20” wheels will defo give a better ride.. But a Brompton is far more versatile - unlike larger folding bikes a Brompton is welcome inside restaurants and shops, I’ve even sat it next to me in a cinema. So it neatly eliminates theft. You can use range extender technology like buses with a Brompton where other makes are too bulky to be accepted on board. And of course in shopping cart mode you can tour a supermarket using your front basket to place items and then roll it to the checkout. A quick flick outside to unfold and you’re off home. I roll mine as much as possible but, if you do live up a staircase, you can instantly detach the battery bag and you’re left with a bike several kg lighter than most of the competition. Btw I have yet to see a Go-cycle with mudguards, lights and luggage.
I’ve got the Brompton electric and I love it, if anyone is thinking of getting one I definitely recommend it, you won’t be disappointed.

I really want a brompton. My thinking is like this. I drive a Jeep Wrangler. The body style stays the same for years, so you rarely get the desire to upgrade to a newer year as it looks the same! So the brompton follows that same principal. It could be old, but still basically looks like the new model. So temptation to upgrade is very slim.

Go cycle is way easier to fold and while I’ve never tried the Brompton electric (only the non electric), the ride of the go cycle is much smoother/more comfortable.
Awesome video! I love how electric bikes are getting more popular. There is a lot of selection now and it's easy to find a quality bike for a reasonable price. I've had mine for 8 months and have already put about 1500 miles on it commuting to and from work and running errands. Thanks for posting. :-)

Brompton hands down. It’s much smaller when you fold it. And that’s the whole point about folding bikes and why Brompton is so legendary in the industry.
Actually no, the GoCycle folds much quicker and it stays clean because the chain is not exposed. That makes it more usable for everyday commutes to work. I take my GX with me on the train. Folding it smaller is simply not necessary and the GoCycle is easier to use. I'm sorry but the Brompton is outdated to be honest.
@@burgienl I disagree...Brompton folds in less than 8 seconds: th-cam.com/video/jw-iBCUKi80/w-d-xo.html. I own a Brompton electric and there is no difference folding the electric than the non electric version in the video.
@@dogkoa602 yes, but the GX can fold even faster than that if you don't fold the pedals like in this video. Now, the GX doesn't fold as small. But on the other hand, you can push the GX in front of you while walking because you generally don't fold the seat. By the way, this guy is really fast. The average Brompton owner I meet at train stations take ages to fold their bike :-D
@@burgienl Actually, having a Brompton, the chain is also not exposed when folded and I always push it in front of me when non folded and behind me when folded using the handle of the bag like it was a shopping cart. And it indeed require less than 10 seconds to fold, when you're used to.
@@s.bruyere8496 Yes, but it will be exposed when riding. So more dirt in the chain and bigger risk of getting it on your clothes. I guess it comes down to personal preference though. I opted for the cleaner and more futuristic look. Size was less important to me. But I never knew Brompton had so many fanboys :-D

They are different bikes. I have a 20" folding bike and love it but it is too heavy and large other than for occasional transport. The Gocycle is lighter but still too heavy and bulky. I have put an order in for an unpowered Brompton because they are lighter and fold smaller.

Old fashioned brakes are perfect for the Brompton. They are lighter and simpler and easy to maintain or replace.
You neglected to mention the Brampton provides 3 levels of battery assist, or no assistance, user selectable. The Brampton can also be ordered with 3 speeds.

Gocycle looks great, but folded it’s way to big to fit in my car or be easy for train travel.
Also not keen on automatic gears, so that’s not a plus for me.
I think you can switch to manual if you prefer

Have to say that the Brompton looks positively analogue compared to the GoCycle. It looks like they have just added a battery, a big one at that to an existing bicycle model. Definitely the GoCycle for me, sorry Nicki!

The gocycle is a good bike, but for a similar price you can buy a proper 50mph e-motorcycle scooter.

Gocycle is good but wait till you needed support. My goodness, where is it and the parts, good luck. Just look at the support page of GoCycle, it's laden with many complaints.

I love the design of the GoCycle and would absolutely love to own one, but the battery needs to be detachable for me to charge at work. If the battery was portable I would buy a GoCycle, now I'll have to buy a Brompton, poor me. :)

This was not informative whatsoever, sorry. I really need a proper review, because I can't decide between these two... GoCycle seems awesome but people are dropping comments about inferior tire quality, punctures and going flat all the time and losing your warranty if you change it to a different brand tire? These are the super important details we would need to hear about.
Different markets I guess but Brompton are missing out on technologies such as eshifting and other smart technologies. Nothing beats a Brompton for fold and luggage options though.

This is not much of a review. No comparisons of weight, range, ride quality, charging time, price, warranty or space when folded. For example I can't imagine being allowed to take a Gocycle into a restaurant or bar. What about riding with a flat battery? Will the Gocycle transmission function without power?
And here is me a typical woman wondering what the colour choices are....hahahaah!

Brompton in the Past and Gocycle in the Furure both are beautiful.
Watching all the videos on ebikes I just feel the batteries don’t last as long as what they say they do,
And they amount of money you pay fore them is really a big amount £1000 pound on the Brampton so il have to see when I get mine in November to see if it’s justify the price and all so say if you go over bumps the power cuts off if this is true then don’t you think they would fix the problems before putting them on sale I no nothing is perfect but if I am going to be £1000 extra for my Brompton eBike I want it to be perfect but we will see .
In the matter of fact,after I saw that video sitting in my car, my baby gocycle is in the back trunk resting and waiting for me to ride as often as I can.
I'm 69 years old, difficult to walk ,but riding sending me I. Heaven! [ I love it so much.
I bought 100 feet wire extension to plug[ 80 feet away from my parking space. This way no one can steal my baby.

The Gocycle is a sexy gadget, it is however a heavy, bulky, beast.

"If you've got further to travel, it's worth to spend more money for the Gocycle" . But without any bag? I guess they mean more commuting distance.
What's wrong with a backpack? Ok, cycling for 3 hours with 10kg on your back wouldn't be fun but almost nobody does that.
@@burgienl That was the main question. I think the Gocycle has really nice advantages in terms of look and other stuff. But if customers want to ride long distances, they also should consider that the bag is something to be considered. I wouldn't personnaly ride too long with a backpack. I prefer having a bag on the bike. But I guess for a longer commuting distance with a backpack as you mention, it must be nice indeed.

@@brnobiking Thanks for noticing. I checked and they indeed offer front bags, but it looks like the weight is on the stem, not on the frame. See how it handles when fully loaded.

Not specific in what how the bikes are similar or different. You would think they would have swapped bikes to give feedback on their different experiences. No specs given about range or handling. Poor review.

I think your test is not very objective, because you each describe your subjective opinion. you didn't ride and swap the other's bike at all. During the go cycle, the battery was not removed and the seat post retracted. it has no mudguard or the ability to mount a luggage rack. you also forgot to mention that the brompton has the smallest pack size in the world when folded, you forgot to mention that the brompton has rear suspension which the other bike doesn't have. your test is for the garbage can.
These bikes are for spandex-bummed sissys, where I'm from mine's 1600 watts with a 920 wh battery stock and I have two of those, motor is the most powerful and with the most torque available on a production bicycle, on the website rated for 55 kph under throttle but actually does about 62... 🤗

Brompton are crap. They are not willing to give you the power curve info on the motor. They don't like you if you ask in depth questions. Gocycle openly answered all my questions and some. Brompton is like a Fred Flintstone bike and the Gocycle in like a George Jetson's. Light years apart. My mew GOCYCLE GX blue arrived and it is just brilliant. 100% recommended. Cheers guys.
