  • Today, I'm checking out the new Shark Vacuum with self-cleaning brushes, and comparing to the Dyson V6 that I've been using for years. Is this a good vacuum to buy? Let's take a look...

Hi, thanks for the informative video, on the Shark LA401 model. How does this product perform on hardwood? Does it have a switch for bare floor mode, where the rollers don't turn?

I have this vacuum. It does have a hardwood floor switch, but all that does is stop the rollers. The suction on this model is not great, and I would not recommend it.

@@wallywalrus2 Thank you for your input. I believe I bought this vacuum on sale and it's still in the box... it's not too late to return it.

@@amandawilson9555 the main things I don't like about it is that I have to go over the same spot several times to pick up all the dust. Even small things like chip crumbs can take more than one pass. The roller never gets clogged with hair, which is nice, but the suction tube just past the roller does get clogged. It's very difficult to clean, and there is no easy way to take off all the plastic baseplate to get access to it to clean it. So you have to resort to things like jamming a screwdriver into the tube to try to dislodge clogs. It's not pleasant.

@@wallywalrus2 oh, ok. I bought it at half off and decided to keep it as an extra vacuum. I do love Shark and I'm surprised at the negative review- I just got the ninja, after the navigator, and although I liked the suction a little more in bare floor mode on the navigator, I appreciate all aspects of the ninja, including the XL dust cup, but I've seen some small particles escape the vacuum's suction power, and I'll go over an area two or three times. Really doesn't take too much longer and I figure it's a better job anyway- the overall results are impressive and the non-clog rollers are nice.

@@amandawilson9555i just bought this vacuum and love it. i couldn't believe how much disgusting dust and cat hair was embedded in my carpet. one quick go over and the fairly large dust bin was nearly half way full.
i've only ever used cheap vacuums before, and apparently they just grind most of the dust and hair deeper into the carpet rather than suck it up.
